Syncing the Z9

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got the new Z9 today and when i got home I downloaded the new Motorola phone tools. After about 2 hours of messing around with it, I got it to recognize the phone. I went to sync the contacts from my outlook and it gets about 75% of the way thru then says phone update failed. I called motorola and after about 1.5 hrs on the phone with them, they don't know why it won't work. They said they'll have a tier 3 tech call me in 24-48 hrs. just wondering if anyone else has tried this and had any success with this. Im assuming the V9 would be the same as well. I'm trying to sync via usb not bluetooth so I'm assuming it's not loosing the connecion. The only other strange thing is it recognizes the phone during setup but cannot identify it do I have to manually go in and pick MOTORIZR Z9. It says that the version of MPT is the most up to date and the tech also told me the same thing. I can transfer photos & music, just no contacts. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The only other thought I have is that the phone is just defective. PLEASE HELP!!!

Keith

Me three. Was able to use the V9's profile and all worked except for syncing of Contacts, Calendars & Tasks. This sucks I hope we get a update soon.

I Just got my Z9 to connect and sync to MPT v5, had to signup with MotoDev and download USB driver file.
Here's a link to MotoDev:MotoDev
Just signup then up once you get logged in search for "Headset USB Driver" and in should appear at the top of the list as "Headset USB Driver for Windows"

Here's the proof!

Your the Man Cmatthews! Works great. We all would've just waited till Moto released something.

One problem, it will not let me use MPT to tether like I always do. Instead after MPT varifies my usrn & pswd it gives me some error "make sure you have a data plan, contact your service provider and blah blah" Is it possible that Moto finally closed the loophole for internet connection/tethering feature with MPT V.5 or am I just doing something wrong? Have you been able to use it on the Z9? Thanks!

I have only tried tethering with my MacBook Pro and it worked fine and was extremely easy to do, I'll look into trying it with MPT a little later and see what I get.

I was going to wait until I got some sleep for this, but I went ahead and gave it a shot, and was able to tether the Z9 using MPT with Windows Vista.

First of all when you go to create a new connection change the service provider from "AT&T" to "other" ad then click next.
I just left it connection type as "UMTS" on the next screen, then clicked next again.
On the next screen you need to put in the following
user name: "wap@cingulargprs.com"
password: "cingular1"

Here's where things changed for me,
the first time I set it up it ask for telephone number if you see that, the telephone number is "*99#"
I decided to try it again to double check the settings and the next time I did it it asked for APN which is: "wap.cingular"

Whichever comes up for you, enter the needed info and click next.

After that I made no changes to any of the other screens and just continued to click next until the connection was setup.

All that's left to do is select your connection and selct the connect option.

I tried it numerous times, it worked flawlessly for me.

Interesting...I will boot up windows and try this. Kinda sucks though because I have never had to enter settings whatsoever to get it to work on any of my other Moto's? Usualy just click the internet connection tab and it automatically connects. None the less, glad that it works.

For some reason this wouldn't work for me, kept telling me I need the proper data plan for it, maybe they are trying to stop people from accessing it without proper plan. Manually inputting the settings worked fine though.

Could you possibly post how you did this? I would like to try it with my Macbook.

This is actually very simple. First off goto into settings on the phone and change the USB connection setting to "Data Connection" and plug the phone into the Mac via USB.
Next open Network Preference's on Mac, if it doesn't detect the new network interface right off then select the "+" in the lower left to add the connection.
Then select Motorola Phone (MOTOZ9)

Next you need to add the following-
Account name: "wap@cingulargprs.com"
password: "cingular1"
and click "APPLY"

Next click "Advanced..."
Change Vendor to "Motorola"
Change Model to "GPRS (GSM/3G)"
and type in the following APN "wap.cingular"
Click "OK", then click "Apply" again.

Only thing left to do now is click on the "Connect" option and it should connect.

I am only running 10.4.11 so the system preferences>network does not have all those fields. It also looks a bit different. I'm not having any luck?

Oh, I didn't realize that. Not sure if it will work with Tiger or not, and I don't have anyway to test it. Does it recognize the Motorola Modem at all?

You might try this site and see if you can do it via BT.
