Do i need to completely dismantle my w580i?

Ok guys, i've just been wondering about the housing on my w580i and im not sure if if i should take it to a shop and have them change my housing instead of doing it myself.

From this picture, im wondering if i can simply dismantle the plastic white pieces from my phone instead and replacing the black peices only, instead of having to completely dismantle my phone down to the skeleton. I hope you guys can understand what im saying, its kind of hard to explain in words.

I'm thinking its pretty easy and really tempting to do this myself. So far i've taken the faceplates, keybroad, and back cover apart easily. So i'm thinking it would b easy to replace them with the black faceplates on ebay.. now its just a matter of fitness.

Thanks for reading

Yea, kinda confusing. You only want to take the part that has the 'W' on it (Walkman symbol) from the back, including the battery cover, and pop off the front faceplate WHILE keeping the phone and all its other contents intact?

yea, basically what i want to do is take off all the plastic pieces (including faceplate) and leave the frame, then i can exchange those plastic pieces with the black ones i will get on ebay. I hope thats more clear

No, you don't need to dismantle your whole phone, as a matter of fact, you don't even need a screw driver, just a pry tool

use your finger nail to separate the pieces then stick the end a orange peeler and slide it around the end. i have changed to housing on two w580i-should be no problem.

There are no good black W580i housings, if you want a black phone, i suggest S500i housing

I've been looking for a black housing on ebay and came across this one Black housing

The seller seems to have 100% feedback with all the buyers enjoying their housings. The pictures look pretty good too.. really tempting!

btw, if i get a black s500 housing, is their any modications i need to make to my phone so that the housing can fit properly? Or is it as simple as replacing with a w580 housing? Thanks!

That one is bad... the REAL black W580i is matte, not glossy...ALL of the ebay ones are glossy

to use S500i, you just need the S500i d-pad, its simple... no "cutting" or soldering or whatever you're worried about, its just about finding the pieces

sorry for probably sounding like a noob but wats a d-pad? >< does that have something to do with the keypads?

EDIT: is this the d-pad your talking about?

has anyone ordered any s500 housings off ebay? I'm about to order one but want to make sure everything will fit.

yea, thats the d-pad. directional pad. Thats the up, down, left, right, and center buttons most of the time. I'm not too sure if that includes all the softkeys along with it (cancel, back etc etc)

but the d-pad from the s500 is actually the same as the d-pad from the w580. I looked at the manual with the pictures and udnerneath, the d-pad is exactly the same, only looks different from the physical appearance. I will post pictures after school

Yes, the d-pad is attached to the softkeys...

NO, THE D-PAD piece is NOT THE SAME

the W580i has rounded keys, but the S500i has square keys...

HOWEVER, the circuit board below it is the same... so it works...

Trust me on this one... I know what Im talking about

so this does mean i dont need to change anything internally? I know the d-pad circuit board is the same, but that also means althought the physical housing may look different, all the buttons should line up and work properly right? Sorry for the frequent questions, just want to be 100% clear on what im going to do. Thanks for the support!
