Ive had the iPhone for a while now and while I love the thing, I know there has to be a better phone out there, or in the near future. I know the new one is coming very soon, but what if it still lacks most of the features on many of todays phones?? I want mms, a better camera, 3g, java, flash, etc. Are there any phones I should check out?

Do you want to stay with touch screen? What service provider do you use this will tell us if you need 850mhz? Got a price range?

The only one that I'm aware of that can do Flash in browser are the N95-1/2/4, N82, and E90 with beta firmware.

i say go for the n95-4. it has everything possible in a phone currently, except for touchscreen. 5MP camera, 3G, 30 FPS VGA recording, GPS (with Garmin), and an endless list of applications to install. its a multi tasking mini computer. snap a picture and the GPS will embed the GPS coordinates into the picture and upload it onto a google map right from the phone. watch videos from the full youtube site with flash in the browser. the list goes on. that's my suggestion.

Okay, my one issue with s60 devices: lag in menus.
I owned quite a few s60 devices in the past, the last being an n73.
Sometimes, the time it would take to open a new text message was ridiculous. Menu could take 5 seconds to open sometimes.
This wasn't too bad most of the time, but common.. did they ever fix that issue on the n95??

How good is the camera btw? And the video capturing?

In eight weeks the iphone2 will have everything you are asking for, mms, better camera, 3g, Java? flash. Just wait eight weeks, there simple.

i'm in between the n82 and the 3G iphone myself.
i would get the n82 3G over the iphone 3G at the drop of a hat.
i am not huge on web surfing on the phone at all. although i think i would do more surfing on the iphone than on the n82.
my plan would also change drastically since i have a great family in which i would give up some precious minutes and end up paying more.

You won't see any lag anymore. When I receive a text message on my N95-4, it takes less than a second to open it. I used an N73 as a temp while I was between phones and there's a noticeable drop in speed compared to any of the N95's. The new one S60 devices do not disappoint in the least.

The camera is fantastic. If you search twango.com or flickr for "N95", you can see tons of pictures people have taken with the various versions of it. It's the second best camera phone to date, next to the N82.

If the black cased iPhone turns out to be the rumored 3G iPhone, you won't be seeing a better camera. It's the same pin sized sensor without flash and autofocus. They might add video recording, but I have a feeling they'll be charging as much as the 16gb for it for the new case and 3G alone. There hasn't been any other evidence of new hardware for it other than the 3G chipset.

Yeah this went away with all feature pack 1 phones like the n95 n82. Faster cpu and more ram then you know what to do with means instant menus. There is no lag anymore with s60 like you've seen on non-FP1 phones like the n73. Whats better, new s60 phones come with enough ram now where literally every app can be run simultaneously at once with no problems, quite literally. Even counting all your 3rd party installed apps. Multi tasking beasts. there are videos on youtube showing this with the n95 8gb.

I would go with the Samsung Blackjack. Check out the specs on phonescoop.com You can also compare side by side to any of the other devices you may be looking into.

Okay one thing. I just looked at camera pics of the n82 - what would I missing if I went with that over the n95? I'm in california, with at&t.

Posted by: break-r

Nothing really
Virtually its the same phone in a different shell

However it depends on which N95 variant you are using in your comparison

Posted by: dimsum05

The only major thing the N82 has above the N95 in the Xenon flash and the smaller formfactor. It will have a smaller, dimmer screen and the volume will not be as loud as the N95's but almost everything else remain the same.

Posted by: EPVQ30

we don't know when the iphone 3g is going to be released do we?

Volume is a big factor to me
I always use my N95's external speakers for listening to music, and even at 30% is plenty loud for me.

However with the N82, I had to put it at 50% to be acceptable

Go with the N95-3/4 if you want AT&T 3G. N82 camera is better than the N95's because of the xenon flash.

I'm trying to think of all the things I take for granted on the iPhone.
I realized information syncing is a big deal... of course Isync can sync my address book and calendar if I set it up right (I could with the n73).. but my big thing is my music.
The n73 would take SO much time to transfer music off from my computer. Has the n95 gotten any better?
The iPhone's speed at music transfer is that of an ipod - very quick. And considering how much music I have, along with whatever else I'll put on the phone, this is a big deal.

Oh, not to mention: playing music in my car! How is the music player on the n95? And are there any car hookups available? Or would I have to look into a headunit with an auxillary port?

Posted by: JonnyBruha

Depending on your N95 version, you can transfer a couple different ways. Fastest would be card reader with a microSD card that will sync with your media player of choice, but this only applies to the N95-1/3. Otherwise, you'd be limited to the slower transfer speeds of the USB cable on the N95-2/4. It's not as slow as people make it out to be, but it will be slower than your transfer speeds with your iPhone.

Yeah there are car hookups; a 3.5mm audio cable. You can grab a radio with an aux port or a USB port on it. Either way, it will work with the N95 and you'll still be able to use that aux port for the iPhone out of the headphone jack.

Quality is a little lower than the iPhone, but just as good.

Posted by: dingobiatch

But the N95-4 is the one I would want, if I want 3g for ATnT in the US right?

What is the deal with the N96?

Posted by: JonnyBruha

If you want 8gb of built in storage and US 3G, then you want the N95-4. If you want a microSD slot with a smaller screen and US 3G, you want the N95-3.

If you can be more specific, I'll gladly tell you what the deal is with the N96.

Posted by: dingobiatch

Haha sorry I just mean, is the N96 better? What does it have that the n95 doesn't, and what does it lack?

As far as the n95-3 and n95-4... I would have thought transferring to the 8gb internal would be faster than to a microsd slot?? So wouldn't that be the best choice for me? I don't need more than 8gb.

well it depends how often you change out your music. many times its close to a one time deal, then you just swap out a few albums here and there. 120MB takes about 3 minutes, so its not the fastest.

the n95-4 is the one you want, its the US 3G version 8GB with larger screen.

the n95 has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, so there is no car adapter technically. you just plug it into anything that takes a standard aux jack. i plug my n95 into my acura stereo since it has a 3.5mm jack, and the music sounds fine. some people say n95 music quality is not as good as the ipod/iphone. but its great to me.

Posted by: meorah

If you're getting an N95, do NOT buy a headunit with an aux in... That's a waste of money...

Everybody knows you buy a head-unit with bluetooth that supports A2DP profiles. Wires are so Apple, ick.

What is faster, the internal 8gb version (n95-4) or the sd version (n95-3?)?? As far as transferring songs I mean..
I just know my n73 took FOREVER. That was a minisd.

Posted by: bachviet

microSD card with card reader is faster.

Transferring using data cable is always slower.

The N95-3 transfers a bit faster but the transfers on the -4 are not that bad. I know I don't miss my N95-3 a bit after getting the N95-4. The larger screen and newer firmware, somewhat faster camera have me totally happy. Also like the slick all black look.

Posted by: sbeindba

Anyone have a good source to but the N95-4.

Dell small business but if you are on TMobile and can't take advantage of the 3g I'd go for the N95-2 and save a few bucks. I got my N95-4 through dell for $520 + tax and free next day shipping.

Posted by: amkls704

I would recommend the N-95 or the BB 8310, but seeing as you want 3g, go with the n95. I've been looking into eventually getting the gf one of them. Then we can swap.
