AT&T Cell Phones

I have the 2 years plan that comes when you buy the iPhone, but I'm eligible to get a regular cell phone at the discounted price and some of them, after discounts, are free.

Which model would be a good one to get and sell, or keep as a backup?

I would like to offset some of the cost of the iPhone and this seems like a great way to do so.

Thanks,

I am in the same boat. I would really like to get a BB Curve as my backup but I don't think the iPhone SIM can be used in it. I had a hard time deciding between the iPhone and the Curve originally and I would love to have both ..I wonder what features I could use on the Curve using my iPhone SIM ? The iPhone would be my main phone. Good luck with the decision !!

I have the Curve and the iPhone. Your iPhone SIM will work in the Curve fine, as I use mine in it. I did however cancel my iPhone data plan and switch over the the Blackberry Personal Plan. That way you get the push e-mail, and all the features a blackberry should have.

As far as the iphone, it will work, but you will lose visual voicemail. You can toggle your SIM back and forth. I actually don't because since I got my curve for my "backup" phone, it's been my main phone and I've yet to even touch my iPhone again, except to use it as an iPod and wifi browser.

When you switched to the curve & BB data, did you remove the sim from your iphone & use it in the new BB? Did you do this at a store?
I went into a corp at&t store yesterday & the guy told me I would need to get a new sim in order to get the BB data so I left & decided to call CS to have them switch it over, but the guy on the phone said that I had to go to a store first & get a new sim before he changed it. He said the iphone sim wouldn't work in the BB. I know he is wrong, but he refused to change the data plan for me unless I went to the store & got a new sim.

If you install opera mini on the curve you can browse the web using the iphone sim, also jivetalk can be used for IM but it has a subscription fee, & yahoo go can also be used. You will probably not have access to the medianet browser.

Wow you have some retards in your ATT stores, haha.

I went into a store, picked up my curve, and she put my iPhone SIM into the curve right in front of me. Took her about 10 minutes tops to get the phone up and running and my plan switched from the iPhone plan to the BB plan.

In all reality, there is no "special" SIM in an iPhone. As you can easily tell by pulling it out, it says 3G on it...it's a 3g SIM and seeing as the iPhone is not even a 3g phone, it's just a standard AT&T SIM. The only thing that makes the iPhone unique is the data package added to it which equips the visual voicemail. Without that, it's just your standard unlimited mediaNET. I don't understand why some stores are treating the SIM in the iPhone as unique because it isn't. It's just your everyday ATT SIM card.

You should keep your iPhone as your backup and wait till the new Nokia N96 is released fot at&t.

I already used my upgrade for the curve but we have 4 lines on our account, so i still have 3 upgrades available to use, muahahaha, so whatever phones catch my eye, I may pick up. We shall see. That was one I was looking at for the girlfriend.

Are nokia smartphones a little easier to use than bb's? I think the bb is very user friendly, but she doesn't, lol So I was thinking maybe the nokia would be a little easier for her. She has an iPhone right now, but I'd like to get her away from that eventually just so I can get my fan discount on all 4 lines, instead of not on hers.

Tell me about it, more often than not I know more than they do. Maybe I should suggest they read HoFo....lol

I have given up on the idea of switching to the BB data, at least for a few more weeks. My new billing cycle starts Monday & I don't have the time to school CS on how the iphone sim is just a regular sim & can be used in any phone. Anyway, I will continue to use it in the curve & pearl with opera & jivetalk for now.

That's funny that you say you should tell them to read HoFo. The manager at our local at&t store said they actually frequent hofo with customer questions, etc...and they use it as a last resort frequently if no employees know the answer.

Well, then I will definitely mention it to them the next time! or I could tell them to call your local store & speak to the manager...haha

When Hell Freezes Over. If the N95 didn't come out what makes you think the N96 will?

I have both a BB Curve & a iPhone which are both active & used daily.
The iPhone is my personal line & the Curve is used for work line.
With the iPhone I can easily access my gmail email via wifi which is not allowed on a work or business device due to corporate policy. The Curve is controlled by our I.T. and connects via a VPN which they can monitor & filter content and such. It works great for reading outlook email on the go. But other than that, it's very restrictive as to what they want on the device. Hence why I have both phones so that I can enjoy each.
