today......... my iPhone died, i dropped it. glass shattered - it's gone, it's a wrap...... *pissed

yeaaah yeaaaah i shoulda had a case but i didn't so now i'm sorta crying a river.

My condolences. I sold an iPhone to a good friend who recently dropped his. Screen cracked, digitizer wasted. He's getting a 2-hour repair in NYC for $189 this coming week. Will let you know how it turns out.

Just curious: what was the surface you dropped it on and from what height? Also where did it initially land - face first, corner, etc?

That's what they said? They have a $250 out of warranty replacement for broken screens, did they not mention that?

Sorry 'bout that. I dropped mine from about three feet straight on to a tile floor. Not a mark on it and it works fine. I guess it is all on the angle it hits the floor on. Can't get much harder than a tile floor. It hit flat on the back. Whew what a lucky break that was!

Ya my wife dropped hers from 3-4' onto a slate tile while running. It only sustained a couple of scratches.

Sorry to hear that man. I've yet to purchase a case too and have dropped mine once or twice on my carpet thankfully. I know eventually I'll drop it on a harder surface but I'm having a hard time deciding which case I like best. I want something that covers whole phone and comes with holster but does'nt take away from the asthetics. Any suggestions?

I'd say go pick up a refurb if you want another iPhone. With all the rumours flying around about a new one, I don't think it's worth it to buy a brand new one right now.

Anyways, would a case really have protected the screen from shattering? I assume the glass shattered because the screen hit the floor? A case which leaves the screen naked would not have helped, right? Unless the glass shattering happens even when the screen doesn't actually hit the floor.

I did the same thing this weekend. Reached into my pocket to pull out my keys, Iphone came flying out first, landed smack on the glass screen first from about 4' and onto cement. Screen looked like a baseball when through it. Took it to an Apple store and they sold me a new one for $250. Hard lesson learned.

I was disapointed to not get my old phone back they said they send them back to apple to refurbish and use parts as needed.

dropped mine and shattered the screen on the upper right.. it made 3 really long cracks across the entire phone.

Still works fine broken though.

I now have a band aid over the right side of the screen where it cracked so more glass can come loose. LOL.. people always ask why and i'm just like... just setting a trend.

yeaah i was like ahh this sucks, today waking up and not having my iphone with me *sigh, i went to the iphone store to purchase another one and i was explaining to the guy what had happened, he said the best thing to do is get a refurb phone because dishing another $400 will be a waste due to upcoming models, so yeaah i just got something for now & we'll see how that goes, in the meantime. the sidekick is workin' good i guess. bLahhhhhhh no wi fi or safari doe :[

hey man sorry about your loss
i got mine from a friend he gave it to me the screen was cracked and only half of it worked there's a guy here where i live on craigslist who fixes them for 180.00 parts and labor so i got me an iphone for 180.00
took him like 20 minutes to fix

A case like the iSkin Revo would protect it somewhat since the rubber frame around the screen would hit the ground before the screen itself...

I have a Couture showcase and one of the screen covers (i know , over kill) but they compliment each other extremely nicely and when I do take it out the case for a weekly cleaning the phone itself looks brand new (been in the case since I got it, although refurb). It has some sort of rubber plastic combination around the entire phone that absorbs impact, and so far i've only dropped it twice on its back (slipped out of my shirt pocket).

my phone lasted from 09/07-01/09 so about 4 months, and now i am happy with my crackberry!

yeah well if i had a case it might not have damaged it so bad, i sold it on craigslist for $100.00 let the dude deal with the trouble. i am gonna get another one, but not right now. i dont wanna invest the time and money right now until apple distributes something major, we'll see. ill jus check the site for updates for now

I used a company for repair of 2 ipod and they repair all that is Apple including iphone. Do a google search for "Ipod rescue". Not sure about the rules for putting the link (better safe than sorry).

If the phone is not "too" damaged they might be able to fix it and get it running.
