T Mobile top-up

I have a tmobile UK sim. I live in the USA. I am going to ask my parents who live in the UK to "top-up" for me as it has 0 balance right now. I would like my phone to work as soon as I arrive in the UK.
I have the top-up swipe card with me. From what I have read they can go to any store that displays the green top up sign and purchase an e voucher.
I was going to tell them to go to Tesco close to their home. They can put money on an evoucher then call me with the code that I can program into my phone.
Am I understanding this correctly?
