Hi everyone,
I am currently overseas. I ALWAYS travel with three devices, for various purposes. ALWAYS! The BB Curve, the Tilt, and a regular phone of whatever kind for when I go partying, so if I lose it, it's not that big of a loss! I also carry an additional brand new never registered SIM card with me for that purpose. Anyway, my Blackberry Curve 8310, and my Tilt are both unlocked, but apparently my Samsung D407 is not. So I called customer care earlier today, and immediately got the unlock code, on the spot, for my D407. I was surprised. Usually I get an email, albeit also very quickly. Usually within 3-4 hours. At any rate, I HAVE the unlock code, and the rep. was trying to walk me through entering it, but after 45 mins. on the phone, we gave up. She said to take out the SIM card and power it back ON without ANY SIM card in and then to put the unlock code in using this format: #7465625*638*Unlock code#.
After that failed miserably, she told me to type in #0111*unlock code#. Again, no dice!
So I searched the Internet, and found yet another option:
1. Switch on your phone with a non-accepted SIM card. The phone will ask for 'Password'.
2. You can now enter your unlcok code. (Even if phone doesn't ask for a password, enter the unlock code)
3. If 'Insert Correct SIM card' message appears: enter #0111*code# (my rep's first choice)
Again, nothing. Didn't work. Man, this roaming thing has been something else so far. Does anyone know the correct instructions??? When I enter the code, it always says "Not Personalized yet", and ask to put a SIM in it.
Does anyone know what to do here? It's not the end of the world if I don't get this unlocked, but I would like it as an option, especially being that I HAVE the code, and only just can't put it in.

By the way, I JUST called back in since I thought...well, maybe it's the unlock code that's wrong. She saw the notes and agreed to pull it from the system, instead going through the form, etc. Turned out that it is the right code, and I cannot use it!
I also tried Samsung directly by leaving them a very detailed email, but God knows how long that takes. Well, too long it definitely will be.
So I ONLY need the instructions. I have the CORRECT unlock code in hand!!!! I'm merely looking for the correct way to put it to USE!! Again, the phone in question is the D407!
I would SOOO appreciate someone helping me with this!!!!!!!!!

The emailed instructions when I got a D407 unlocked were to remove the SIM, power the phone up, and use the #0111*unlockcode# SEND technique. I don't recall any problems doing it that way.

This is so weird...I tried it your way, and after I entered the last digit, the # sign, it said once again, Not Personalized Yet, and went back to "Insert SIM". Then I tried it again, the very same way, and tried to hit # and SEND real fast, trying to trick it. That didn't work either. Or did it? Hmmm...
But something worked. I was going to try your way again with the non-AT&T SIM IN, and when I typed the PIN code that's on that SIM, it had always asked me "SIM lock" or something, and putting in the SIM then never worked either, but it didn't do that. Because it's UNLOCKED lol! All of a sudden! I have no idea which time it did it, and it never said anything about SIM restriction removed or something to that effect, but I have an unlocked D407 on my hands now.
I've unlocked tons of phones through AT&T/Cingular, whatever, over the years, but this was the hardest one...by far! LOL...
afecu!! Thank you! Even if your method didn't work, it made me pick up my phone and try your way, and it may have been that it was it that finally unlocked it, but it doesn't matter! You're definitely the reason it's unlocked now! LOL...
Take care, and thanks again!

You're welcome!
(I wonder if using a SIM with a PIN code confused things??)
