Z6m Ringtones

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Vilim12

I know this has been asked lots of times but I stil dont know the answer. I got a Moto Rokr Z6m the other day and when I brought it home I found out I cant set my own ringtones, I keep hearing about bitpim and p2kcommander but im not familiar with any of these programs. What is the simplest way to just get the apply as option to show up, I can use either mac osx or windows xp programs. Thanks alot

Posted by: Hageej

you need to put the song on the Memory card
then go to media gallery and find the song
mark it and move it to the phones memory
then just find it in the ring styles and set it
atleast thats how i did it

mine's with alltel and that doesn't work... i too am looking for a solution to this

Ditto.

I WAS able to do that, but my phone kept messing up. Alltel had a patch to fix it, but in downloading the patch it also disabled using Mp3s as ringtones. Plus it disabled bluetoothing audio and picture files. What am I even supposed to use Bluetooth for now?

Posted by: Hageej

mine is through US cellular and they dont block it

I know, I wish it would.

I've gone around and around with both the Alltel stores in my area and the customer support online.

My wife has the same phone and can still use Mp3s as ringtones, but it's because they haven't given her the update patch....because her phone has worked properly since day one.

I traded in my phone 4 times because I was having many problems that their patch would supposedly fix.

Contact list being deleted until I turned the phone off/on.
Text messages not going through/received unless I turned the phone off/on.
Unable to make phone calls--off/on.
Unable to access memory card--off/on.

I kept trading for a new ROKR because they had already told me that the patch would disable my ability to use Mp3s as ringtones (among other things). I finally had to give in though. I want to use my Mp3s as ringtones, but more importantly I have a cell phone for the communication reasons.

I just don't know what to do.

I've tried wav files, but they don't work. They don't even show up on my phone for me. I'm just hoping to maybe find a loophole around this issue.

Im in the same boat. The New rokers from alltel have a lock where you cant use ringtones that arnt locked (from alltel access) Here is another thread with the same issue http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...highlight=apply
I hope someone can find the loopole. Factory ringers .... yea Thanks

I just got a Z6tv from Verizon and was able to put ringtones on via MPT.
no seems editing or anything. The one thing you HAVE to do is rename the ringtone to "ringtone".qcp from .mp3
just change the extention that's all

Posted by: jagerauto

yep there is a block on alltel phones, if you are able to do this do not bring your phone in for software updates... once they hook it up to the comp, its over....

Posted by: Rydias

For what it's worth, when this ringtone issue became an issue, Alltel kept telling me it was not by their choice, that all carriers were being forced to no longer use Mp3s as ringtones.

Well, here is an e-mail response I just got from Motorola:

"Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support, we appreciate your interest in our products.

"Regarding your concern, if you are an Alltel customer, all multimedia transfer features have been disabled due to carrier request in the latest models. This limitation is also present in older phones after a software update is made. Please note that in some cases, the media may be transferred, but it is not possible to apply it into the phone as a ringtone, wallpaper, etc. Please contact your service provider for further information, requesting their service to transfer multimedia into your cell phone. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

"We hope that you find this information useful and look forward to assisting you in the future.

"Best Regards,"

I have no idea why you guys cant do this.
When I bought mine I asked them if it had all the new software on it and they said it did and I havent had any problem putting my own ringtones on it.

Posted by: wadech83

my case, specifically, i'm with alltel, phone is about a month old now, and when you go to your mp3 list there is no option to apply as anything, nor when you go to edit the sound profile details can you pick mp3's... whether copied to the phone or not.

Well, I envy you and hope you enjoy your phone. Be wary of Alltel though. The first time I took my phone in because it wasn't working right they looked at me like I was crazy. The guy told me the ROKR phones "have never had problems like this before."

1 week. 1 week later when the phone wasn't working right still, I go back, talk to the SAME guy and he tells me "oh yeah, they're pretty notorious for this problem."

That's when he told me of the update that'd fix everything, BUT disable the Mp3 ringtone feature.

They've told me that they don't even think their ringtones would work, since they're Mp3. I'm not about to spend $1-$3 just to find out.

Alltel has been nothing but shady to me since I went with them.

Well Im actually getting a new one because mine started shutting off randomly. If this new one can do it then it must be something on your end

That's what my latest one has been doing. This time I'm just going to get a different phone from the ROKR.

Keep in mind that this is my fifth ROKR and that they've all had the same problems.

But then again, my wife's has worked just fine until recently and it started doing the shut off thing too.

Just wanna chime in and gripe a little.

I had to get a new V9m from Alltel this weekend because some apps quit working on my old one, and quickly found out I couldn't apply my personal ringtones and it wouldn't bluetooth to my laptop anymore. Needless to say I was a little peeved. However I was able to fix the ringtone problem after reading through this thread:

http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1332983

It was little time consuming since I'm a noob and all but it did work.
I was not able to fix the bluetooth problem but I guess I can live with that for now.

Personally I think the new software is a breach of contract. I signed a contract for the old phone AND it's features. I would have never bought the phone if those features were disabled. I would be a little more understanding if I had to get a new phone because of negligence on my part but that isn't the case.

Just my 2 cents.

I got my new one in the mail and it doesnt let me set my own ringers. Looks like it actually is the new software even though I only got it a month ago. Im just going to send them back the one that they just gave me, I dont want this new one if I cant put my ringers on it.

Well excuse me all the way to hell. Silly old me was just trying to help. Did you click on the link I pasted? Nevermind, I already know the answer. If you had you would have the seen the title of, "New Software: ROKR Z6m & RAZR2 V9m" I guess I'm just an idiot thinking the two threads were somehow related.

The v9m and z6m are very related. I'm getting a 'new' z6m tuesday, my Q's been screwing up alot.. so yeah... Thanks for the link.

I've got my new z6m with the latest updates figured out! alright i'll make this easy since no-one else did for me.
1st.. you need the motorola driver installer and bitpim.

transfer desired ringtones to phone memory

use moto-driver install to clean and install

plug in phone

start bitpim

delete TmpTneDB and MyToneDB from phones file system

unplug

restart phone

TADAAA! or whatever other gay ringtone u been usein'....haha

Posted by: my2002stuk

I'll have to look up the instructions again but I did a seem edit on my Z6m following some instructions for a V9m. It did work and I was able to set my custom files as ringtones for my contacts. Only drawbacks are that the files will still be locked for the new person if you bluetooth it or send it in a message. Also you have to do the seem edit on each individual file you want.

Same here. Just make sure you use the V4.X version of MPT.

Posted by: ppsi

Are you saying the newest version of MPT will not allow the ringtone change or are you saying the specific version you used is the only one to use? I've been going nuts with my alltel rokr and trying to seem edit the phone. I've never done this and have spent hours trying it to all come together with no luck. In addition my Windows XP OS crapped out and I had to restore an earlier point. I can only blame this phone and the associated seem editing software that was going on at the time. I may be wrong but it was certainly a remarkable coincidence

Seem 2742 Record 0001
Offset 00b8, Bit 0 - Off, Enables Apply As Ringtone on Alltel Z6m and V9m 02.0D.0BP Firmware

Posted by: gstyle003

where do i get all the software and stuff to do the ringtone solution? can someone post some links? Id really appreciate it, THanks

Posted by: ppsi

G to a recent reply Goldmember made to my "Z6m still can't seem edit" He is a God-use MotoSuperTrubka.

Alltel has changed the software in the z6m rokr....

i had the original phone and it was simple to use my songs as ringtones as you listed. this is the same way i did it for 6 months, but then my phone broke and alltel sent me a series of 3 new phones(z6m) to replace the original one. when i could not set my songs as ringtones i called alltel very upset and they explained to me that they upgraded the software on the z6m and made it where you had to purchase ringtones thru your phone! talk about pissed! i now hate ALLTEL! and i've been a customer for over 10 yrs.

What do you have set as the phone in Bitpim. The version I have does not have the Z6m in the drop menu and will not detect it.
