Hello there, I was wondering whose still using a Treo 650 and who would recommend it? I've been using one since 2005 but just stepped up to a 755p. The reason I'm asking is because I just received a refurbished Treo 650 and I was thinking about giving it to my dad as a late bday gift, I'm going to be paying for the plan but do you think this is a good for as his first PDA phone? I really wanted to get him a 755 just like mine but I just dont have the money at the moment, I was thinking maybe he could get accustom to these types of phones and maybe after a month or two i'd surprise him again by getting him a 755, any suggestions?

I still use it/live by it daily - until Centro comes to Verizon
- I would hazard to guess the 650 was/is the most ubiquitous Palm phone they made. It is a great phone, great PDA phone... just a bit dated in terms of OS and style, but 100% useful and worthy.

I have a CDMA version 650 that was given to me. The only reason I would upgrade is 1X versus EVDO, higher resolution camera, a bit weighty compared to the RAZR I had, and I can't feel this one vibrate (could always feel the RAZR) but I do not want to have the ringer on. Had a RAZR, and this is tons better for the internet (Opera mini is free and the included Blazer seems to work well too), typing, PDA functions, address book, watching videos, and lots more applications which many are free to try or still work with limited functions unlike BREW. Get bored, and you can change it up so many ways!
1x versus EVDO. I haven't really noticed a difference especially if you go to the mobile web sites, but I don't download stuff either.
That said, my daughter wants this phone so I will either upgrade to another Treo or Centro (if Alltel offers it) or MOTO Q™ 9c in lime. Still trying to decide between Windows or palm based too which makes a difference in the final decision.

Thanks everyone on the feedback.. I called sprint trying to add another line and get my dad on the SERO plan with this 650 under my account but they wouldn't unless they switched me from a corporate account to a regular account and that means I'd end up losing my 25% discount which just isn't worth it =(

Yeah, I agree with the other people. My 650 has served me well. $150 off of eBay. It's great. 1xRTT isn't that bad. The only bad thing is that it reboots fairly often due to buggy software. But, all-in-all, a great phone.

I like mine, will upgrade when I leave for overseas to a unlocked 680, but the neat thing is i can transfer everything. As for first gift, I think it is great, I gave my dad a 600 and he was ecstatic. When I come back maybe the new Verizon palm pda will be reasonable enough to buy. Sometimes the old is just as good.

I've had an unlocked GSM Treo 650 running on a prepaid AT&T PYP for about a year and been relatively happy. The only frustrating thing is almost daily reboots from locking up overnight while charging. That is why I don't have a protective skin on my Treo because I'm constantly having to remove the battery (at least once daily) and reinsert it to reboot the phone. Would consider moving to an unlocked Treo 680 or Centro once the price comes down below $200 on eBay or craigslist. I detest contracts and have found AT&T PYP to be the best alternative to a contract plan since I only use about 100 minutes per month and mostly use the unlimited MediaNet data plan at $19.99 per month. I've also noticed that the unlocked Treo 750 has come down below $300 at dell.com and buy.com. Would consider jumping ship to Windows Mobile if it wasn't for replacing all of my Palm OS applications.
