I am trying to find a GSM phone for under $30 that has the best reception, call quality, and good battery life for my girlfriend. I am currently stuck on verizon and don't know the GSM phones all that well.

Looking forward to switching in June.

Under $30? Wow. Well, you will probably be VERY limited unless you can find something used on eBay or here maybe. GoPhones are the only things in that price range, or a refurbished one on AT&T's website.

Sorry, Let me Clarify. When I said $30 I meant with a new two year contract. She is switching to ATT and thus we are considering those phones which don't cost much after the two year contract discount, MIR, etc.

Also, if you know of a phone which is also durable that is prefered. Sorry for the confusion.

V3xx from walmart (if they still have it for free, that is).

Having gone through countless Motorola "issues" with 4 V3xx and 2 V9's (finally have one that works a V9) I am incllined to say go with a Nokia.
I don't think I'll ever again spend good money on Motorola. Sad as they USED to make very good handsets but now they don't. While reception might be good reliability and customer service are non-existant
