LX260(Rumor) Need help Putting Ringtones on Phone

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a LX260 (rumor) and i can connect to bitpim. I go to the filesystem and i cannot figure out what folder i put the ringtone into. If someone could tell me which files to open and where to put the ringtone that would be great.

I've tried the filesystem mode and it doesn't work, the ringtone I bought was in Brew>Mod>22>(4 files in there for one ringtone!) Maybe bitpim, will add the phone to thier program down the road. For now I just live with it.

Ive done the procedure with bitpim befor and i just retried it and it is saying that the service provider has blocked access to the lg_mysound.dat file under file systems when i went to delete it. any suggestions anyone?

Yeah, same problem here, followed the opening procedures for the LG Rumour, but doesn't seem to be working yet.

Hi, You guys seem to have a bit more information than I can find... Where is the lg_mysound.dat located? Is there a guide somewhere for this phone that I missed?

Thank you.

I've been looking through many fourms lately trying to get ringtones & apps on my Rumor without having to pay data rates to download them from the internet. Apparently Sprint does not use the lg_mysound.dat file so if you have Sprint as your carrier, stop looking. Sprint uses a different file system than other carriers which is apparently quite different from what LG originally places on the phone.

It appears the the problem is that the phone uses BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) which requires ringtones & apps to be registered with the phone for it to recognize them. Also, according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BREW BREW apps consist of 4 files (.mif file - features, permissions, etc; .mod file - binary; .bar file - resources; .sig file - digital signature) in order to work. This explains why I don't see any .mp3 files in file system view in BitPIM even though I have downloaded one ringtone from Sprint. As of yet, I haven't quite figured out much about BREW but there has to be a way to convert mp3 & jar files to the BREW format and edit the right file to include the necessary information.

In the mean time, if you are only interested in ringtones I have learned of one workaround that can get you by:
The Rumor does allow you to set videos (.3g2) as a ringtone. Therefore, if you create a video in Movie Maker from the ringtone you want and transfer it to your phone, you can then set it as a ringtone. Full instructions here: http://forums.mobiledia.com/topic63879-0-asc-10.html
(I used the above instructions and it worked great for me but there are other similar solutions out there.)

Hope this helps some of you out there and hopefully someone will soon find a way arround the BREW file system.

I have my rumour though virgin mobile! I have the cable and I know the format for the ringtones, but it says file system blocked by provider! Is there any way around that?? There has to be a way some how.

i have the lg scoop, which is the rumor's twin. i got around it. check out the post i created a few hours ago, it gives a detailed description of everything you need to do, and it's really easy. best of luck.

Ok thanks I have read that but that does not help me out at all! No access to web on mine! And I have tried all the sites that send free ringtones to your phone number! they don't work on this! Thanks anyways!

i've tried all those sites, too. but doing it this way works. plus, all lg scoops should have access to the internet, it just depends on whether you want to pay for it or not.

i created 3g2 and put in on the microSd of my rumor phone (bell mobility carrier)... can only be used as video screen saver

Posted by: dragonz868

yep cause canadian carriers make it so you can not access ringtones on the microsd! Its a pain. And no I don't have access to the net on mine. If I wanted an $80 - $100 phone bill then I would buy the ringtones, but I don't!
