Hi there, how are you? I'm writing because I've been doing research on a lot of cell phones because my contract with Verizon is up in two months and I want to upgrade to the best phone that meets my needs, regardless of the network. What I'm looking for are:

In my research I've come up with a few that I like, including:

I'm relatively new to cell phones (I'm on my third ever), and have never owned a smart phone, so I need help! Based on what I'm looking for and such, could y'all please suggest a smart phone that would fit my needs.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

  • Robust messaging features such as IM and push email support (I'm an email and IM addict)
  • A full QWERTY keyboard
  • Good syncing ability to sync contacts, google calendar, etc
  • Well built and stable
  • Good 3rd party software support
  • Good call quality
  • Good reception
  • Decent to good battery life
  • Good internet connection

In my research I've come up with a few that I like, including:
  • The Helio Ocean (which I've tried and feels good in my hand)
  • The Blackberry Pearl (which I've tried and find the Suretype keyboard funky)
  • The HTC Mogul (which I've not tried and yet everyone keeps raving to me about it)

The Mogul won't have stability (IMO), but will have loads of 3rd Party Software.

The Ocean wil have the stability and messaging locked down and solid like a rock, but the 3rd party apps will be severely lacking.

The Pearl will have good messaging (great email, ok IM), and meh 3rd party support... so I guess it's kind of a middle ground.

Hey there! I've been reading reviews of this phone and they're almost all overwhelmingly positive. Will it, however, be available on anything other than AT&T? I keep hearing horror stories about their network.

Heh, this makes me want the Ocean even more.

Wirelessly posted (HTC Wizard: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) PPC; 240x320; HTC_P3600i/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I've never had any problems with AT&T, so I'm not sure what horror stories you're hearing. I'll recommend unlocking an HTC S620/Tmobile Dash and using it on the AT&T network. That's a $15 a month data plan and a pretty damn stable OS with support for push email via Exchange ActiveSync or a number of clients for IMAP IDLE, and IM through Palringo.

I'll look into it. Thanks!

While I have a slightly based opinion of the Blackberry OS, I think that windows mobile is a better fit, especially with the extra expandsbility of the OS.
