SH905i Reception Problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After extensive reading on SH905I, I've come to realize this.
SH905I Supports the 1900mhz band in North America and it does not support the 850mhz band.

Go look up your area and your coverage for where 1900 towers are by using this website
http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/cancellsites.html

For me, I live DIRECTLY underneath (3 Floors Away) from a 1900 tower... infact.. I've seen them ontop of my apartment and for some reason my SH905I is still waving between 1 bar of signal to 2 bars of singal.

After more extensive reading, It seems that using the HS128 Hypersim, also known as (PSS-SIM for 804SH, 904SH or the Taiwan Hypersim) for the 905i Docomo series will cause very poor reception being unable to reach anywhere normal cell phones can go.

I just want to make sure that all this information is correct before I go hunt down another simhack to fix this reception problem.

I've used a 903SH for a long time and that didn't have reception problems like this. So there must be a way to figure this all out.

ok tried with "Benny Hypersim" and the same thing occured...
lol.. maybe my phone is just broken. lol.

Thanks for providing the map. Nearby my house there are 2 closeby towers. I think that's why I've been getting outs sometimes on my p905i. But even now, ever since getting that 1 CPR and 5 outs, everything just seems to have reconnected and I'm on NextSim v6 (the cheap sim). I get about 1-3 bars of reception (usually between 1 and 2).

maybe we are actualy using the 850 band instead of the 1900 band..
there seems to be alot more 1900 band towers compare to 850.... it would explain the poor reception.

Posted by: 2slick4u

what is cpr?
i dont know how to work with my sh905i lol my reception sucks as well
i usually have no bars and jumps to 3 then jump back to none...

Posted by: Maikurukun

CPR = putting your simcard into another phone... if possible with the sim hack.. then get back reception... then putting it back into the docomo phone.
SO905iCS doesn't seem to be having this reception problem.... so far only the SH905i..

Posted by: 2slick4u

oh yeah i know this problem is weird
:S

Posted by: 2slick4u

yeah i tried putting my phone in another phone with the sim hack and putting it back on my sh905i only when i call the reception bar goes to 3 bars but when im not using it it jumps from none to 2 not that stable
i accidently put the sim card the wrong way would that damage the phone?

but your 903sh is working ok? What about when you had the 705sh with the pss? you didnt have the problems? And you said you dropped it, problems before dropping it?

Posted by: Maikurukun

Ya the 903SH is working fine.. so did the 705SH...
the Sh905i has been like this from the very beginning....

If Rogers has 850 3G Towers... maybe its time to ditch GSM all together.
Hopefully the 4000/U0.2 simcards will be hacked so that we can get on the 3G network.

Posted by: 2slick4u

how do you know which band are u using?
i dunno if im using 1900 or 850 3g

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol.. well you can't be right now.
The SH905i only has 850/2100 3G... i assume.. i can't find any specific stats on the GSM/3G capabilities on Sh905i

In addition.. the regular GSM uses the 850 band and the 1900 band as well.
and we are probably missing the 850 band for GSM cus most Japanese phones have 1900....

In additoin.. Slick your using a Sm32 simcard.. meaning you wouldn't have access to the 3G networks anyways.

Posted by: 2slick4u

oh so basically we wont have 3g..
hey if u put the sim card in the wrong way would that damage the phone?

Posted by: Maikurukun

... hmm maybe? lol.

In Theory, if we could get the 4000 series and the U0.2 series simcards up and running with the sim hacks... we could get far better reception than the standard GSM....
Someone should correct me if i'm wrong.... I just spent the last 3 weeks thinking about it though

Posted by: 2slick4u

where can u get the 4000 series or u0.2 sims? or when can u lol

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol.. oh they are out.. they've been out for 2 yrs now. lol.
just that the simhacks don't work with them.

Posted by: 2slick4u

oh do those sim card work with fido?
if they do i guess i'll wait until there is a sim hack that will work with them

Posted by: aw614

i wonder if it is the phone...I've had a few voda models (803t and 902sh) that just didnt get any signal and if it did it was like you said, really low, leading me to think it is the phone. Have you been able to try another sh905i?

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol sh905i is pretty rare dude... u can't just pull out another one out of thin air in canada. but judging that its also happening to others.. and HWZ sh905i users seems to be doing the same thing... its probably the gsm thats messed in the phone.

Posted by: 2slick4u

it might be just the sim hack
who knows we will know when we get a stable sim hack

Posted by: Maikurukun

oh. lol i already tried that. haha.. i used my gf other simhack.. same probs.. sigh.

Posted by: 2slick4u

damn i wonder if its gonna be a permanent problem :P

why is that? can't the old 3040 sim go on 3G as well? We just need a sim hack that unlocks 3G network. Then we can leave our network modes in normal and it'll just fall back on 3G 850 and so coverage should be better. I'm currently testing SIMKJ and hoping that I can get 3G working in toronto on my p905i. It'll be interesting to see if it'll work (since that sim can work with AT&T 3G).

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol ya.. older simcards can't get the new 3g network... just the way things work i suppose. lol.
ohhh how much is that simhack?

Posted by: riel

Just to clarify:
Japanese phones with GSM uses triband 900/1800/1900.

Rogers uses 850/1900.

Maikurukun, I'm using the first generation PSS-SIM for my SH905i and 920SH, with NO poor reception problems. I've used a 903SH with no SIM hack together with my SH, going around the city, and both have gotten the same amount of reception bars.

Posted by: Maikurukun

hmmm it works fairly well outside.... its the second you go inside a building.
or 1 basement floor it stops getting reception.

^^ places the 903SH works.. that the Sh905I doesn't.
ya i got the original pss-sim too..

once we get the 4000 and the u0.2 series simcards working.. this shuoldn't be a problem anymore. 850mhz suppose to help alot with being inside buildings

oh... I never knew about that =/ I'm just wondering if the simhacks CAN get 3G networks working, does that mean it will work with p905? We can use 3G 850 to fall back on incase GSM 1900 fails right?

PS: I got the sim hack for $21 CAD (shipping included)

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol.. does your hack work with the 4000 series/u0.2?

Posted by: 4agze

I do have reception problems with my SH905i especially on the train and underground, it doesn't pick up signal instead of showing signal out all the time. Today I'm using the hypersim with other phone to check if there's signal on the train and picks up signal after underground journey and it did, so tomorrow exchange it back to my SH905i. Hope it works
