new AT&T phone for mom

My mom wants advice on what phone to get from AT&T since she is upgrading. Right now she has a really old Nokia and wants something "with a color screen"
She went by the store today and said the Samsung A727 looked nice, is this a good phone for her? What would be some other options? I'd say keep it under $100 after upgrade.

Thanks

I'm usually not one to make recommendations about style choices, however, I'd like to chime in with my experience!

My mom's 70, pretty active and very progressive - and not just for her age! She and dad live in a fairly rural area on the fringe of cell tower signal strength for VZ, USCC, and AT&T. She related to me that most of her friends in her area talked about what worked for them, style-wise with functionality in mind. My mom's pretty tech-savvy but prefers to keep things simple when she can; she doesn't care about texting, music, games, or fancy ringtones.

We toured a few stores just a couple of weeks ago and she ended up choosing the AT&T Platinum RAZR V3xx that I'd been using. To be fair, she also liked my UK-version Nokia 6270 except for the garbled voice quality she'd encountered about half of the time. Both have large buttons, a very legible screen, and a sense of style about them. She also likes the Moto V9. I'd SEEM edited the V3xx to disable HR, and mom is thrilled with the better voice quality - she really doesn't care that the RAZR's style a little passe, and several of her friends said they really like the RAZR's form and appearance. So, there you go. My 2 cents.

BTW, keep in mind that AT&T has killer Mother's Day sales every year. I want my V3xx back, and I've let mom know that I'm getting her an upgrade on Mother's Day!

How savvy is she? Why not get her a new nokia? At some point my mom willneed a new one--I don't want to teach her a bunch of new features, so I'm getting her whatever the newer nokia candy bar is at that point.

Okay, my mom (senior to what most of you call "Senior") was on a Free2Go account and got stuck with a Moto C139 when she had to switch to GSM. It was slow to start up, and just didn't perform well. I managed to snag a used Nokia 6340i which she uses okay (well, okay, she is able to make calls from it most of the time if she can get it turned on-- the on button is a bit tough on that model when it gets old).

She only makes a few calls a month, but I have finally convinced her of the importance of taking it with her...(she has used it a few times now for auto problems, and directions) --- still need to convince her to take it with her when she works in the yard in case she falls (the yard has some uneven spots).

The Nokia is getting hard for her to read, and the battery isn't holding a charge very well -- when changing to GSM, I could tell she thought the RAZR was "cute" but she doesn't use the phone enough to spend more than $40-50 bucks.

Any recommendations regarding the refurbs and lower cost ones out on the AT&T site? Any thoughts on the Panatch C3b? or the Nokia 6126? As a senior, would the bar be better than a flip?

Personally, I liked my last Nokia TDMA (don't remember the model) for menu better than my current Moto -- especially the phone book.

Thanks!

I sure wish those "senior" phones with the big buttons and simplified interface were available unlocked or from AT&T, rather than only from MVNOs.
