Iphone Go Phone Questions...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So I'm thinking of getting an iphone, and I've got a couple of questions for you fine folks...

1) Am I correct in assuming that when signing up for go phone, I can opt to use the "Pick Your Plan" option? I've heard that I can't leave the AT&T network under the "Pay As You Go" option.

2) Will I still be able to port my existing number when selecting go phone through itunes activation?

3) Any other suggestions?

Okay, that was three questions. Thanks a lot.

1.NOt sure what your talking about, Its a gophone I believe there is no contract you can leave anytime.

2.I believe you may have to get at&t or apple to do that when you select gophone option. I am not 100% sure though.

3.Yea if your just going to be using the iphone with no edge access go get a pay as you go plan from a cheaper company and unlock your phone.Or use Tmo they edge I think

you have to fail the credit check when doing pick your plan and its done through itunes not in store...unles you want to setup a pick your plan in store then have the iphone jailbroken so you can just insert the sim...

there are many threads about this just search around...

I've run searches, and couldn't find any answers to my specific questions...

I'd much rather set it up on my own, as opposed to going to the store. Nor do I really want to do a jailbreak...seems too risky.

There are two types of gophone plans. One, you pre-pay, one you pay as you go. I've heard that the pre-pay is the only one that allows you to roam.

And, I also want to know if I can port my existing number when activating through itunes, or if that requires doing to the store.

pick your plan is a prepay type plan...thats the only way to do it....not to sure abuot porting the number into the prepaid...and in doing it urself you would have to fail the credit check to do it...there are some methods to do it i.e. fake s/n or all 0's

you cannot port a number from another carrier under prepaid. only through postpaid. in my experience as a COR sales rep it is not possible at POS. I haven't had experience activating an iphone under prepaid through itunes and haven't seen first hand that it does or doesn't, but we are not able to port numbers to our service under prepaid accounts.

But I've heard that you can only use the prepaid option with the iphone. Nor do I want to use the pay as you go option, because that will apparently eliminate roaming.

Has anyone here ported their existing number to an iphone with a go phone plan?

There is no way to port an AT&T number from one type of an account to another (i.e. from postpaid to prepaid or vice-versa). This includes prepaid MVNOs like Tracfone, Net10, and 7-11 Speak Out as they use AT&T. This was the case when I tried a couple of years ago.
Porting from AT&T GoPhone to other carriers I have heard some results, but not many.
To GoPhone from others... yeah I can also confirm that it doesn't normally happen. My sister wanted to port from T-Mobile to a GoPhone account and never saw such an option.

Like everyone has said, the only way to do prepaid iPhone legitimately (read: via iTunes) is to fail the credit check. And last I heard, that means you have to really have bad credit; the fake SSN number loophole was more or less fixed a while back.
Your only prepaid options beyond that will require you to hacktivate or even unlock the phone.

Interesting. Well, my credit is not well established yet, so I could very well not pass the check. And I have no interest in paying a $750 deposit.

So what you're saying is, there's no way to port my existing number to a go phone account?

I just went through this myself 2 days ago. I didn't want to sign up with the contract and I wanted to explore the prepaid option. Here's what I did:

1) I used iTunes activation and go through the first few steps.

2) I forgot the sequence, but when asked for name, address, credit card etc, just enter bogus names and address there. This won't matter because later when you sign up for the prepaid option, they'll ask for your name and address again.

When asked for SSN, enter this number: 141-11-1111

I found that number on another website. Apparently it's an AT&T secret SSN that can be used to bypass SSN validation.

3) After you enter the above, it'll say that they can't do credit check. At this point it'll give you the option to sign up for the prepaid plan

4) *IF* I remember correctly, they give you an option to transfer your number for prepaid plan. If you don't choose to transfer, they'll give you a new number.

5) At the end, it'll say that your account is ready to be funded. You click the button and it'll open a web browser and take you directly to the page where you sign up for the prepaid plan.

Hope that helps.
