Verizon Upgrade suggestions - need serious help

I live on the fringe of my Verizon cell tower and only get sporatic service at my house with my current LG 8300. My NE2 is up in a about a week and I would like to go with another phone - not only because of the reception problems that I'm having with the 8300, but because the battery only seems to hold a charge now for about a day and it's been getting steadally worse over the last couple of months.
When I'm out and about, the 8300 doesn't seem to have too many problems getting or recieving calls - but at home, it's hit or miss at best and usually have to run outside in order not to have the call drop if the call does get through. When I check around the house the 8300 will draw perhaps a half a bar at best. My wife has the upgraded version of this phone 8350 and her service not any better.
I prefer the clamshell phones but I'm open to anything if it improves my reception. I've heard that the EnV and the moto Razr's seem to work well in fringe areas but I still would like to get some recommendations.
I'm also willing to wait a bit if there is a phone that is coming out that someone feels will be superior to what Verizon is offering right now. Price is really not a issue - good reception is.
Serious thanks to any that reply.

Have you thought about a cell signal amplifier? If you are only having trouble in your house, this sounds like more of a solution. Once installed it should allow you to use the same phone you have(and like?) now. This way you could save you NE2 for something that maybe meets your needs better later.

I considered a signal amp about 6 months ago - but decided I didn't know enough about one to justify the expense (units that I was looking at were over $300). I'd consider a signal amp if I could find something that wasn't too hard to install, had a reasonable track record and was reasonably priced.
In checking with my local Verizon store, they claim that Verizon is going to put a new tower in my area that should help with signal strength issues, but according to their chart the tower is set for 2009. I don't know whether to believe them or not so I came to the conclusion that maybe all I need right at this moment is a better phone.
