so i bought a treo 680 that didnt come with headset. i went out to radioshack and bought an adapter for it so i could use my own headphones. they said it was a stereo adapter, but i can only hear it out of the right ear. ive taken it back and they gave me a new one, they said 'theyve seen them come in bad from the factory before' so i just exchenged it for the same one again. that one does not work either!! it says

3/32" to 1/8" wireless phone headset jack adapter;
turns a 3/32" 4 pole wireless phone headset jack into a 1/8" stereo headphone jack.

is this the right kind of thing? what should i get next that will work??

You got a 4 pole adapter like this

, you need a 3 pole 2.5mm to 3.5mm like this

Notice the bands on the tip of the adapter.

i went to radioshack and picked up a 3/32" to 1/8" 3-pole adapter today. works great! thanks guys
