Can I use my upgrade but keep my iPhone on my account?

I want to use my upgrade so that I can get my wife a Blackjack, but I want to keep using my iPhone on my account. If I upgrade the line, it will change the IMEI on the account to the Blackjack. I'm thinking that will keep me from being able to use my iPhone.

What do I do?!

Well, if you buy it and don't activate the SIM that comes in it, just slip in your wife's SIM, I'm pretty sure your IMEI will remain unchanged.

No, it won't. This happened to me, and it was a slight headache. (It could be different if you buy it online or from a corperate store, but I don't really think so).

I bought a V9 from WalMart for $79.xx. The guy gave me a new SIM card, and I tried to use my iPhone as SOON as he pushed the purchase, and I couln't use it. I had to go home and switch the SIMs. I also called AT&T to see if I could get the old SIM placed back onto the account, and she couldn't because it was decomissioned or something like that.

Anyway, I also asked her to see what IMEI was on the account, and it turns out that it wasn't the iPhone, it was the RAZR's (The one I just bought). I told her to erase it, but she couldn't. I had to go back into iTunes and reactivate my phone, thus putting the iphone plans back onto my AT&T account.

Needless to say, I was prorated for 1 day of the iPhone package, so I lost about $1 (I had to pay $1 more that bill) plus the upgrade fee of $18 and tax.

Personally, for saving about $200 on the V9 just to have, I thought it was worth it. I think you'll feel the same way. Just make sure to call them IMMEDIATELY and put everything back in place--you'll need the new SIM.
