Complete Modification for V60

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey guys,

Just a quick question... I'm getting a V60 any day now and I don't want it to look anything like every other V60 out there... You know what I mean ! ! !

I want to completely reconfigure the phone as much as possible.

To me regret I got bad news today that My V60C (cdma on telus) can not be reprogrammed into a V60ci because it's not the GSM version.... What the hell is that about? Why can the v60g be configured to the I verions but not the C's?

Please tell me if you know who or where I should look to make my phone "sick"!!!

Thanks

James

Why didn't u just get a v60i? I dont' think you can reprogram it from v60c to v60ci. I know you can get a new top half, so you can have interchangeable covers. I've seen some on ebay.

To get colors or patterns that others can't easily get by just getting them from Motorola or a third party maker, look into getting your plain covers annodised. Look for machine shops, larger paintball supply stores anyplace that works on aluminum. If they can't do it, maybe they know who can. There are some pretty cool patterns that can be done with annodising, and it's MUCH more durable than just paint. You should also consider powdercoating. I think it can only be done in solid colors, and isn't as hard as annodizing, but it's still very durable, and there are a lot of colors to choose from. You could have an auto body shop paint it in a custom color and clearcoat it. Automotive paint is pretty durable, just don't drop it too much, and wax it once and a while.
I like the inverted LCD screens, and different color backlighting and keypad LEDs.

Thanks for the info... anyone have any contacts for these 2 interesting procedures: Anodizing and or Powercoating in the MONTREAL AREA ???

let me know....

I forgot to mention this. There is a post somewhere here on HoFo about powdercoating along with some pics. I think it might have been about an ebay auction, but I don't remember. Try a search. Or maybe someone else remembers?
It was that post and the pics within that made me think about powdercoating for things beside engine and exhaust components, and hard use knives. I didn't realise that it could be done so smoothly, or in bright colors like pink (but not Barbie Pink, more a Pepto Bismal pink according to Darla ).

anybody here know how to get the top faceplate off a v60g? it doesn't have a removable one like the v60i...

Search this forum for "dismantling v60". You should find atleast one thread that explains the process.

It should just unscrew.

thanks guys, i got it off finaly. what a bad design... why can't they all just have removable faceplates like the v60i? whatever... at least i know how now! i'm just waiting for my new lcd in the mail...

one more question, i want to reverse the lcd so the background is black like the v70. (i use to do this with my calculators in grade 7) what is the safest way of doing this and not cracking my second screen!? or is it just not worth it...

Is that hard to do?

I'd practice on the cracked one first. If you can invert that LCD without causing anymore damage, then doing it to your new one should be cake.

Where could I find out how to go it?

Posted by: adam_b

ok i have an answer for you about the screen inverting... i practiced on my cracked one and you have to peel off the peice of plastic thats glued onto the screen that alows you to see the liquid crystal, then turn it 90° and re-attach it. i don't recomend doing this because i cracked my screen a hell of alot more when i was peeling it off.

what i did find out is that you can achieve the same effect by laying another peice of the wierd plastic stuff ontop of the original lcd, so you don't have to do any peeling. you can get some from any old calculator or anything with an lcd. use an adhiesive remover to get off all the nasty glue stuff so that you can see through it clearly. i don't know the best way of attaching it yet cuz i haven't actualy tried it with a working phone yet... but maby even some scotch tape would work... who knows.

cant wait to get my new screen to try it out

Thanks for the info. Is there any other place that I might be able to get that plastic other than a calculator?

Posted by: adam_b

basicaly anything with an lcd screen will have one, i recomend older calculators with big screens because the plastic film is not glued to the actual screen like the new devices, which is a ***** to get off believe me. i don't know if you could buy the stuff from somwhere on its own... that would be cool.

another question... anybody know if there is transparent housings for the v60? all i can find are transparent faceplate kits but all the housings i can find are just the normal stock grey ones wich sucks. i wanna get a really dark blue housing and keep the original faceplates so my v60 has the same color scheme as a v70.

if anybody knows that would be rad
