V3 Hardware compatibility?

I used to switch around parts between razrs all the time. if one razr had a broken screen i would take (for a lack of a better term, there may be one but i dont know what its called) "everything but the screen and keypad assembly" and hook it up to a different razr with a working screen. i would connect the ribbon and put in the screws and id be set.
now for some reason, (different razr) when i took my v3 "everything but the screen and keypad assembly" and switched it out with a different razr it doesnt even turn on. i tried putting the "everything but the screen and keypad assembly" back in the original phone i got it from and it still doesnt turn on. what happened here?
Also, i tried this again with yet another v3 "everything but the screen and keypad assembly" and it turns on but the screen is just black, yet the outside lcd works. the flex cable is new so its not a problem. its just that not 5 min before i did this whole thing the razr was working fine.
can anyone help me?
