Tilt vs Touch Cruise

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi all,

I am looking for an all in one device.

I REALLY like the HTC Touch Cruise, but I have been put off by the price.

Besides the keyboard & size, are there significant differences between the Tilt (TYTN II) and the Cruise?

Is anyone using a Cruise with ATT right now?

Has anyone heard if ATT is going to offer the Cruise?

Thanks for any info!

Best,
Wheelman

Use the Cruise now on AT&T. Love it. Though whether its worth the money to you depends on your perspective. Its MUCH smaller and lighter than the Tilt/TyTN II IMO. I mean, it the difference between being truly pocketable and a brick. I.e. wear loose shorts, run with the Tilt in your pocket, and your pants may fall off. It doesn't for me with the TC. And I don't need a real keyboard anymore because of all the new 3rd party KB apps, esp. the free PCM Keyboard. Cootek/Touchpal are other great ones. I find I can now type just as fast on those as on the physical thumboards of the Tilt and the like.

Otherwise, they are feature-equivalent. So, the function the same exact way essentially. If the lightness/small form factor/uniqueness matter to you that much, then yes, its worth it (it is for me). If not, save the money, get the Tilt.

EDIT: also, the TC is unlocked, but since its easy and free to get the Tilt unlocked, this isn't an advantage for the TC. So, don't list "unlocked" as an advantage for the TC, cuz easy and perfectly legit to unlock a Tilt.

That's pretty much it. The physical dimensions aren't much different at all, but the weight is a good bit different (about a 34% reduction in weight on the touch). The biggest difference in size betwen the two is a direct result of the keyboard. And there is only a 3.5mm difference there. (2mm difference in length, and 1mm difference in width)

In a nutshell, the touch cruise is a light Tilt without the keyboard ... same processor, RAM, ROM size, battery size, screen size and res., etc etc etc.

I think people been posting the TC is coming out for AT&T here in a couple months so if your up for an upgrade then i think the price will be reasonable.

i just wish it had a 3.5mm headphone jack,,,,,i can not stand those adapters..

Is there a transcriber option with the Touch Cruise? If so, does the TC come with a stylus?

Yes and yes. it's the same transcriber in all WM Pro phones, if that's what you mean. And it definitely has a stylus, though I've used it about once in 6 weeks

Thanks! Well I know what my next phone is!

The Touch Cruise is coming to AT&T?

I would think if it was, at least anytime this year, there would already be a testing thread as usual. Typically those are up for months before AT&T releases a device with it's branding. My guess would be no, but that is purely speculation based on history

Not anytime soon if it does...you pretty much have to buy it online full retail if you want it.

it is the speed, compared to EDGE, that you can download at. the faster the speed, the better the download rate.

The only other difference that no one seemed to mention is the screen on the Touch Cruise is flush & on the Tilt it's not. This is huge to me. I would have bought the Cruise but the price is just crazy. So I got the Touch Enhanced. All WM devices should have the flush screen.

I prefer the "non-flush" screen. I have no trouble with touching the screen with it being slightly recessed, and have the added advantage of knowing the screen will not be affected by the smallest of rubs/bumps. It was actually one of the few things that turned me away from the Touch Cruise.

touch cruise has no keyboard at all right. at htctouch.com you can see the 3 touch models. orig touch, touch dual and touch cruise.

only touch dual has a keyboard and its only a # pad that you could use with t9 for texting but i really like a full qwerty.

i think the touch is what vzw has and the benefit of no keyboard is its much thinner which is what i'm looking for as the Tilt is too thick and bulky for summer.

the touch dual may be a way for me to get used to ease into not having a qwerty as at leat i'll still have the # pad with t9 (or similiar) i dont think i could go from being used to a qwerty to just on screen keyboard and that is why i couldn't do an iphone even the new 3g one coming in july though i may give it a look but i hate apple propietary stuff and done use itunes.

Samsung i780 would be good cus its the form factor i'm used to from the Blackjack with qwerty but its a full wm for ppc with touch screen not just smartphone and i really am used to touch screen now too and can't back to my smartphones after using full ppc phone so much

so basically I want thin, wm for ppc (ie. toucscreen) and full qwerty. Which doesn't really seem available except for the Samsung i780 but that doesn't have the bands for use in the usa and again the only problem with that form factor with qwerty onf ront below screen is it makes the screen smaller but its hard enough to get thin with full qwerty and ppc touch screen in one device

to ask also for a larger screen would not be possible i guess right now until they make devices with slide out keyboard thinner somehow or come up with some other form factor design.

I migth try out the Touch Dual and see if i can ease into to not having a qwerty by just using the # pad.

thats nice to hear that you dont miss the keyboard and can type just as well on the keyboard apps like the free pcm keyboard as that is my main concern forgoing the keyboard.

But doesn't the on screen keyboard take up screen space. i wouldn't want that. I may try a Touch Dual with the slide down 20 key cramped qwerty (2 letters per key) to try and get used to less keyboard but ultimately i think a slide out sideways keyboard is best as no way is on screen ever going to be as good and its going to take up screen space. yes i realize the trade off is a thicker heavier bulkier phone when it has the slide out keyboard but maybe the Touch Pro will be a little thinner and smaller in general then the Tilt.

i dont think i am going to love the Touch Dual cus a cramped slide down keyboard doesn't seem like a good idea. i dont see the benefit. it just makes the phone even longer, must be awkward to hold by the keyboard when slid down, who wants to type in portrait all tall and thin when you can type in nice landscape mode.

but it doesnt look like the Touch Pro when first released is going to have the neccesary bands to work fully on ATT in the usa so the Touch Dual which i can try from best buy for 30 days is worth a try and may hold me over till the Touch Pro comes out in a quad band form or directly for ATT or just wait for the Sony Xperia X1 after that.

any other suggestions for a thin full touch screen ppc with qwerty? like i said any slide out keyboard though they seem to be the best make the phone thicker. The Samsung I780 (moto q, sam blackjack form factor but with full touch screen) is a good idea except having keyboard on front under the screen means less space for the screen but it would still be a great thinner summer ppc phone if it was just available in quad band to us on att in the U.S. but alas its not.

:/

I have the Touch Cruise. I like the Touch Pal Pro KB and it is just as fast as typing on a Tilt KB. I had a TYtN II which is almost the same as the Tilt. The Touch Cruise is the perfect size. One program I suggest is "World Card Mobile". It came with the TYtN II. You take a picture of a business card and it converts the info to your contacts. It saves a lot of time. It is about $25 which is worth it. Opera 8.65 is the best browser out there for PPC. You can make your device a Desktop or a PPC when going to a site. This lets you do banking etc from your PPC. The price of the TC has come down to about $640 when you google it. Just my 2 cents.
