To check the firmware version on your T68, press > * < < * < *, then go to Service Info, then SW information.

I just heard from a retailer who is 'tight' with sony rep that he can get the t68 TODAY with R3A installed. Anyone else find this to be possible?

If you have R1B, a firmware upgrade will most likely improve reception a bit.

I sent my T68 to Ericsson service center in MN and I just got it back today. The version they put is R2B. I was hoping to get the latest.. oh well.. I will send it back again I guess.

I sent the phone Thursday night via overnight Fedex they received it Friday March 8th around 4:00 Pm and I wasn't expecting them to do anything on a Friday afternoon. They upgraded on Monday and sent out the phone on Tuesday morning via 2 day Fedex. And I got it today. So they do it in 2 days and 2 days for shipping. Very quick... I was using my 8890 in the meantime. Which I think is alot better than T68 as far as reception is concerned.. but then that is another subject... This is what I would do if I didn't have a spare phone... I would get a cheap GSM phone from Ebay for $20 and use when my phone is in the shop for upgrades....

Hey Alp,
Can you please tell me the major differences you noticed on your T68 with the R2B?
Do you have a better reception now? If you can please add as many stuff as you can.

Scrren looks little bit more sharper. Colors are little bit better. Scrolling seems to be faster on the phone book. Reception is a little better, BUT still inconsistent reception bars, meaning if you turn the phone about 20 degrees you may lose 2 or sometimes 3 bars on the reception indicator Nokia 8890 doesn't do that. One of the biggest improvements is that when I was trying to make a call it says calling and droping the call wtihout connecting.... That problem seems to be gone with the upgrade.. that made me really happy. From R1B to R2B you can tell the difference... If you have R1B and get R2B upgrade.. you will be happy.... but I noticed something.. T68 rebooted itself twice tonight... so that means it is going back to Ericsson Service Center again. I expect very high quality products for the amount of money that we are paying for these phones... It kinda bothers me the fact that $400 phone is rebooting itself. Also i just remembered that some people say that the lights on the keypad are better luminated with the upgrade.... I didn't see the difference.. but its just me again....

Just out of curiousity, there is a lot in the SW screen, at the end, I see "Customization" info which contains R1A, what's that?

My SW info screen leads with an R2B, so I am assuming that that is the firmware?

BTW, I don't think you can change the keypad illumination by software.
Maybe they were comparing a t68m to a t68i (which is really supposed to have good keypad illumination).

is it just me or do ericsson firmware numbers and letters make little sense...i think firmwares should have a order...for example from oldest to newest... r1a, r1b, r1c with r1c being the newest firmware and r1a being the oldest...it would make things less confusing!

Interesting though..

I bought my T68i this week and it has firmware: R2A014

It has all the features you mentioned that were supposed to be
included for R2B, R3* and up: Naval Fleet (8 games total), Picture Book, MMS Support (although the option to send MMS is grayed out, probably because Cingular doesn't support it yet. I can view the default MMS messages though), Theme editor, CommuniCam support, etc. etc.

Have absolutely no problems w/ sound or power. It doesn't seem slow to me at all as other posts have suggested.

So it's got me wondering exactly what firmware I have and how this differs from what everyone else is saying.

Interestingly enough though, my phone was made in Malaysia, and was intended for the European market, as it came w/ a 2 round pin charger, and the box had a travel plug with it. It has an Italian manual.

I was just wondering if my phone was 'different' or weird in any way because it seems out of line compared to what everyone else said the firmware should be.

oh also i bought it unlocked. it is brand new according to the standby and talk time. this would confirm that my phone is 'europe-spec' as any other t68i's sold in the US by providers are usually locked isn't it ?

same firmware here.

in another forum i picket up that the newer version is supposed to have fixed a "bug" with the automatic setting of the bluetooth capabilities.

i bought a hbh-30 headset, and setting the phone to "auto" does not result in the phone automatically connecting with the headset.

also, there was a note in my headset box that said to upgrade to at least r2e006.

just thought you'd like to know.

ahh.. good to know that I wasn't the only one(s).

So have you guys sent your phone off to the service center in Minnesota for upgrades yet?

Do they even do that? I mean, upgrade 'real' T68i's to the newest firmware. I've read that most of the people who've sent their phones in did T68m -> t68i.

Also, I shouldn't have to worry about losing my SIM unlocked configuration should I?

.. wish there was a closer place to send my phone for upgrades to. Anyone know?

< means left, and you "press" it by nudging the joystick left.

same with right, up and down.

once I am in the menu, how to check with software version is installed on my phone and if its an old one, where can I get the newest one?

there is a SEARCH function in this forum too, you know.

besides, this thread already has all the info you need: how to get into the "secret" menu, what different software versions there are, etc.

I just bought a T68i today, Mineral Grey colour they said it was brand new and just received it. I checked the firmware version and it reads R2E006 I hope that is right and is a new one!

I just got my T68i back from Ericsson for a firmware update a few minutes ago. The version that's now installed is R2E006, so apparently it's now available in the US.

It is a great phone, except that the reason I sent mine in for the update is because I've been unable to get a WAP connection through cingular, and someone in another thread said this problem was solved for them by a firmware update. But I'm still getting a "secure connection failed" error when I attempt to connect.

I'm now at a loss for how to get this thing to connect to the internet!

No, honestly... I have:

T68m to i - R2E006 (upgraded by Robb)

and

T68mc to ic - R2B025

Both have MMS capability.

The R2E006 hangs and freaks out with my T-Mobile SIM, but the R2B025 does not.

The R2E006 works just fine with my Cingular SIM.

The R2E006 also worked fine internationally with SIMs from MINT (Switzerland) (purchased from intouchusa on eBay) and Vodafone España.

I didn't bring the R2B025 internationally.

i bought a t68m this passed weekend, with the idea i could upgrade to latest firmware for free, but now i am confused

The sticker in the phone says t68mc R1b

when i enter the menus, it says R2E006

i just called SE, and they said they do not support flashing the phones in North America.....Am i missing something here, or will i have to pay to get upgrade the phone. Also, does it sound like the phone has been used, considering it already has the R2E006 firmware on it?

what is different with R2?, R4? and R5?. Because, I have T68i with R5D but bluetooth can not use voice dial out. I try to buy cingular the T68i, they have R4A. So, I like to know did R4A have any problem.

I purchased my t68mc in HK back in nov 2001. i took it back this fall and had it flashed to r2f004 as well.

don't see many others with this firmware version, can anyone confirm what's in it? I'm sure it's outdated by now, I should find someone local who can flash it for me.

I've never seen any release notes for every release of the updatable software in T68i. I don't know if anybody knows what would be updated when they update their software?

One thing I know, they fix bugs. And the first time I received my phone from the Rogers ATT, it was darn slow. It becomes much faster after upgrading the software.

I have R6A012 now. Just upgraded again 1 week ago, but I don't see any improvement from R5D007 at all.

I just got my t68i TODAY.... I checked my software version it is R2A. I have a feeling that is REALLY old...can someone direct me to where the NEW firmware is and how to install it.?

Ya, I just got a T68i in December and it has the R3C firmware on it. Can I just take my phone to my AT&T dealer and have them flash the latest firmware? What are the improvements between this firmware and the latest firmware? In other words, what is the advantage to upgrading firmware?

For those of you who wants to upgrade to newest firmware (US folks only), all you have to do is call Sony Ericsson at 800-374-2776. Just tell the CS you have had problem with the phone, they will offer free upgrade if your phone is still under 1 year warranty.

Your only cost is to send in the phone. I send mine on 1/17/03 via UPS NextDay, got it back 1/21/03 (today) from Fedex (they send it 2nd Day Air). It was R2E and they upgrade it to R6A012, menu response is quicker now and the MCA-25 now has zoom function and offers picture effects just like T300 has.

excuse me if I'm asking a dump question. I want to do upgrade and unlock my phone. can I send my phone to SE like you mentioned and do the unlocking? Upgrading has nothing to do with unlocking, right? which one should I do first to avoid the potential problem?(I'm afraid the phone would get damaged during the unlocking...) and... I saw some website offer new SW version for download, my question is ... if I am in R3C001, can I just jump to R7a013 directly? is it difficult to do?

Unlocking has nothing to do with firmware upgrade, you can unlock the phone yourself if you have the cable and knows how to read AND follow instructions. SE will not unlock it for you.

Don't bother mess with the FW yourself 'cause you may ended up with broken bluetooth.

I live near Los Angeles, California and my service provider is T-Mobile

My questions are, i'm hoping someone can answer them:

1. Is the software on my phone the newest for everything?

2. I have the MCA-25 camera...and when i plug it into the phone, nothing happens! whats the problem? My friend has a T68i and he has a different camera but he can take pictures with it! I have a T68 and i can't do anything! Is something wrong with my phone?

3. If its a problem with my software on the phone, how can i change it?

4. Last one, is it the camera? It works perfectly with my T300 so do i need to get that special lookin camera (looks more triangular) that my friend has?

If anyone can answer any of these questions, PLEASE DO!! BEGGING YOU!

My Old version was R3 something. In other words OLD.

Anywho, after using this new version for almost a week I still can't find a single new thing nor is it faster. Not worth it for me.
