i have a tilt and dropped internet and media net, just have unlimited text, since I dropped the data plan I have experience difficulty connecting to yahoo messenger with the software the phone came with. I cant connect or it drops after a few minutes, it did that one other time on my blackjack when i dropped the internet but worked fine when I got the data package back. also when i use the wireless lan adapter to connect through a home wireless router do I get charged for data, or is that only when I use the edge or 3g networks?

Not sure about your first issue but at home you should not be charged since you're going through your ISP and not the phone

The IM app that comes with the Tilt uses text messages to connect, send messages, logout, etc. So, not having a data plan shouldn't have anything to do with that app.

the preferred way your im programs want to connect is with your data plan ...so when it has trouble with that, it will drop the connection..

I would trying to block data connection all together then see if it uses your wifi connection.
