whats up guys..i have been in the wireless industry for about 4 yrs, going on 2 yrs with Att corp, reason for my post is to get some insight and or advice on my new position i will be undertaking next month. i just got accepted for ASM position. Very excited about it, new challenge to take on but this is my very first tackle at any kind of management experience. Feel free to throw some advice and ideas my way.

Learn the backend, then learn how to coach and drive sales (motivation). Once you have those two down you will be ready for your own store.

Keeping up to date on the backend and with the paper work gives you a good idea of what kind of sales people you have and gives you areas of opportunity to work with them. Learning how to coach and drive sales will basically be your challenge and will be what your manager and arsm are looking at to see if you are ready for the next step.

Lastly, the job for all intents and purposes, is cake, you make decent money with little effort, don't do anything stupid that might jeopardize that.

Good RSM's and ASM's create a positive environment for all sales people to be successful. The hardest part about managing people is not hurting their feelings, but still effectively teaching them how to improve.

I think the best manager I had offered a lot of side incentives for daily top performers. Think outside of the box to motivate sales; and find effective ways to bring more customers into the store and your staff will love you.

Since you mentioned that, let me say this; Don't come in on day one trying to change things or busting balls.
Get to know your team and become a team member, nothing is harder than trying to motivate a team who doesn't like you because you are trying to change things.

another complement

It's supposed to dilute negative feelings by beginning and ending on positive notes.

Does the ASM do any actually selling on the floor for commission? Or do they simply help manage the employees?
