Kyocera KX440 earpiece problem

My husband has an old Kyocera KX440(Alltel) with the Touch to Talk feature. He uses this phone for his business and it works very well for him, he doen't want another phone.
Recently the earpiece is acting up...cutting in and out. The spearkerphone option works fine though. Is there anything he can try to fix it?
