HTC Touch Battery issue

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mr_raider

Battery life on my Rogers HTC Touch seems to have gotten dramatically shorter over the last few days. I guess it's reaching the end of it's service life, which is odd after only 7 months.

Anyone recommend a good replacement battery and where to buy?

*Moderator Edit*

There have been quite a few threads on this issue, all with some good information. Links to those threads are below. Please keep discussion relating to this topic in this thread from now on to keep things organized. Thank you.

Before you throw out/replace the battery make w sure that you do a system reset first and then re-evaluate your battery performance. Resetting my touch occasionally has helped my low battery power situations when I though the battery needed to be changed.

Just got my 2400mAh battery that came with a new back because of it's thickness.Wow seems like unlimited power!! Can play with all the extra toys now!!

Yeah I called Rogers and they will ship me a new battery under warranty. Actually, they will send me a new Touch, and I'm supposed to remove the battery and return the phone!

I don't like the 2400mah batteries. I would prefer to stay with the same form factor.

Posted by: angekfire

I think my battery is the 2200mah, and it works great too. With the standard battery, I could barely use it for a day, and that was without using many features. Now, it can last about 2.

Posted by: Pokémon

I love my HTC touch as well. But unfortunately, the battery drains like a mofo.

It takes 10 mins to charge at 100%, and the battery drains to 0% after half a day.

I've done every battery tweak there is to do including the registry tweak.

Posted by: red.octane.aero

Wow..I think you got a bum battery. Mine will run down to 25% by the end of the day with super heavy use! I got mine overclocked and tweaked too. Maybe you need to check settings like...turn off beam, and wifi until you need it.

My data connection is always on and so is my BT.

Which version of HTC Touch has wifi capability?

Posted by: red.octane.aero

Mine Elf(in)=GSM P3450 & P3452 - I dont know about the CDMA models though.

My backlight is low. I have everything set to sleep after a few seconds of no use. I've turned every possible setting low or off to save battery life. I don't use bluetooth nor have "wifi"

Posted by: angekfire

I know the touches bell has don't have wifi. I turned off BT, Activesync (But it still tries on its own 1-2 times a day for some reason), beam, and touchflo. Turning down the backlight can help too.

I just bought an extended battery though. THe size difference is pretty negligable.

Which extended battery did you go with?

That looks real good compared to the other real cheap batteries out there 2000-2200mAh but maybe they are worth the shot since its real cheap. But this one is really expensive guess I have to give it a try

2200mah. The thinkness difference really doesn't make a huge difference to me. I think the difference is 3.5mm. I don't find the size difference a problem at all.

Posted by: streetcreeper

@ angekfire

im guessing you have the bell one?

What one did you go with for the original blue color??? Im trying to find one but i dont want a black one.

And i heard the GSM one has a different backing (the camera placement)

Posted by: angekfire

I also heard the GSM version has a different backing.

I just got the black one. Yea the colour is different, since I have the blue touch, but I'd rather it last longer than be the same colour. Yes, I am with bell.

Posted by: streetcreeper

^what one did you go with?? the sprint??

I'm just worried that the camera opening wont line up

Posted by: cortez

i'm using the Seidio extended battery and the HTC OEM 1900 extended battery seen in this thread . yes it adds a little thickness, but lasting a full day with push email (50-75) and 45-90 minutes of talk time is worth it. after work, i switch to the stock/thinner version.

I got mine from seidio, I think its just the CDMA version. Lines up fine with the camera, not that I even really use the camera.

I have heard complaints about the volume level after putting on the new back though, because of the way it is designed. Some people figured out a way to modify it with a small piece of foam, or part of a pen. I don't really find much difference, personally.

That battery is OK but it's over $70 not including shipping and handling.

With this
offer you get TWO regular batteries plus a wall charger (which has a flashy multi-colored effect in the dark) for under $20 S&H included.

Just Google the search term "zc244 2X Battery+Charger For HTC TOUCH P3450 Elf"

Posted by: Abelis

Any extended batteries that do not add thinkness to the phone?

Posted by: RobNyc

I am thinking of getting the Seido 2000mAh battery for $50 or the Mugeon Power 2400mAh for $80 ..

Posted by: gbueh

seriously the touch uses a lot of battery power....if you are using it to it's full potential. So what. your battery is a lithium ion battery. Charge every chance you get. Do not let it go below 2 bars if you can help it ever. If you do this religiously for a week every 2 months you will get the most out of your battery. I have had my phone HTC touch. I have no issues with it I charge every night. If I play music or anything taxing ,I vehicle fast charge it. I have no slow downs. As I install and test a program... if it slows my phone down I get rid of it. Any today plug in programs will slow down your phone. Period. Treat your phone like a computer tech treats his computer. And you will have a good functioning phone/ppc...

Is that battery compatible with the cdma touch? Im interested in buying this for my Telus Touch.
Have you ordered from him b4?

Posted by: NYC Guy

Verizon's website under "Phone details" for the XV6900 mentions that there is an extended battery available through them.

Extended Battery 1880 mAh: Usage Time: Up to 360 minutes OR Standby Time: Up to 427 hours

Their stores say that there isn't one available and their phone reps don't have a clue. What gets me is that it is clearly stated on their website. I would assume comes with a slightly larger matching back for the phone to accommodate the battery.

Posted by: EvilFactor

Can anyone confirm the replacement back plate actually holds the stylus like it should? According to a review I read for at least one make of extended battery, the replacement backplate did not hold the stylus like the original.

The Verizon version which I received yesterday holds the stylus just fine.

Just got it. Do the lights go out when the charge is done?

Posted by: tlcasper

It just answered my question. The lights stopped flashing but are still on.
Now to see how long the battery lasts compared to OEM, and if if blows up

Posted by: ImpulseBuyer81

just got off the phone with HTC, they told me to contact a special department to see about getting a new battery shipped out ... I know i posted good results in 2 days after shutting down/lowering just about everything on the phone but it quickly went back to 2.5 hrs until no bars ...

As a side note my old samsung blade had the extended battery after issues like this and it lasted for a full day w/o any problems..knowing that has been tempting me to get one of those extended one's ... will wait to contact htc first and see what they say ...

Posted by: BigMannyJr

maybe it's an HTC thing, or an HTC factory battery manufacturer thing. I own a Dash that had battery problem (swollen) and have found many other Dash owner with battery problems. It hurts when such great phones we've grown to love have such crippling problems.

Posted by: ImpulseBuyer81

Contacted HTC's special department which was actually the manufacturer of the battery UTC which was weird anyway after 4 transfers I got a woman who could care less about my issue and said "You have to send us the battery and we will make sure its not good and than we will send you out a replacement it should take about 7-10 days."

Ok so basically I will be w/out a phone for 7-10 days, this is my buisness phone though ... "I am sorry sir thats the way it is" .....

So you can forget that idea .... Oem replacement battery on ebay/sprint dealer here I come ... What a waste of time ...

Thanks HTC/UTC for being understanding that your batteries you supply with the phone SUCK!

What is with these smartphone batteries .... I don't get it ... My first couple of phones w/out much in the way of features the battery lasted for days ...
The battery is a Lith so i thought you could charge it until the cows some home, well once this sucker dies for the first time its game over and decreases the span overall for good ... my experience thus far ... only get if i am lucky 2hrs at this point of use-age ...

when my stock 1100 mAH battery would not charge, i walked into a Sprint Store (w/a repair center) told them about the problem and they handed me a new stock battery at no cost to me...have you tried this option?

I also got a free battery form my carrier(T-Mobile) when I came in to by one. No more 8' extention cord attached to my charger. I don't think I'll ever use a car charger again, nor leave my phone charging overnight.

Posted by: QkSi1ver

Just a question the poor battery only occurs after you flash your rom with rev a and gps? Im still at stock and dont have that problem... although i dont use the phone a lot...
im on my 3rd day without charging( may be like 50-60 hrs)... and im at 60%... im very surprised from some of your experiences... 2.5 hrs?!

it doubles the size of the phone.... i purchased both the mugen power 2400mha and the htc 1880mha batteries and both double the size of the phone. I like the door from the mugen as it flat, but the htc has a better speakerphone part to it... the mugen has a better outter camera look with the sliver big thing....

I've read several complaints of touch and dash owners who didn't do any ROM flashing and still have battery problems. I these were cars it'd been a major recall.

do you mean charging it in the car reduces the battery life?

Most car chargers have no electronics to turn off when the battery is fully charged just an LED light for show. Even with a full charge they still stay on. I also feel those car charger home adapters are a bad idea. If your battery is low trun it off and plug it up for a while. If you can't wait then by a second battery or get an extended one.

My phone was exactly like that in the beginning too, unfortunately it doesn't stay like that for long ... there are so many variables that kill a lith ion battery its not even funny, things like leaving it on the charger all night even after its fully charged, charging the battery at half, talking on the phone while charging etc ... its amazing the poor quality, why can't my phone be like my xbox 360 controller with the rechargeable pack ... thing lasts for weeks on 1 charge ...

PS-i haven't updated yet since there is no real official sprint/htc/microsoft 6.1 out yet and i have serious battery issues ... 7am off the charger, 11am/12pm exlimation point of no bars left ...

Gee, I completely forgot about this thread and hope it's not too late to reply to it.
I've updated the link in eBay if anyone is interested.

When you put a battery on, it will charge with the flashing lights with a red LED and towards the end will gradually stop flashing and you will see a green LED indicating a full charge. Since the charger does not get hot there is no need to worry about overcharging the battery.

Yes it is compatible with the CDMA Touch and will work on any HTC Touch. I am with Bell and it works fine, and yes, I have purchased this product before and is a very reasonable price for 2 batteries and the charger for $15 shipping included!

Posted by: ImpulseBuyer81

Well hopefully my battery issue's are over for now ... Just wanted to say goodbye to the HTC section ... Sprint offered me a deal to help with all the misfortunes that my 3rd going on 4th HTC touch gave to me ... here is the link if anyone cares ... Ciao ...

those batteries are for the 3450. Isnt that the gsm version? Ive heard the gsm batteries wont work in the cdma touchs.
Im with TELUS and in need of an extra battery but am overwhelmed by how many different ones show up on an ebay search.
Can some please provide me a list of the phones/carriers that are compatible with my TELUS touch. EG: mogul, elf, vogue, xv6900. Which ones would also work with the TELUS touch
THanks

The link I just provided you is compatible for the HTC Touch. I have the HTC Touch from Bell Mobility which is the same as the one from Telus. The one in the link is the exact one I have. 2 batteries and the charger for under $15. The 3450 is the HTC Touch
Carriers have nothing to do with the compatibility of batteries. These batteries fit the Fit Dopod S1 / O2 XDA NOVA / HTC TOUCH / P3450 / ELF. Which are all the same phone but are packaged under different models in China. Google what I have highlighted in red and you won't have a problem. I have bought those batteries 5 months ago and they still work fine + you have a wall charger so you don't need your phone to charge your batteries.

I have taken a photo of my original battery (left) with the battery I bought on eBay in that link.

I have a strange issue, I believe. Let's say my battery gets down to 60%. If I turn the screen off for awhile, and then turn it back on, the battery level will be at 70%.

It's like it recharges itself.

Anyone else get this?

Yup, I get the same thing. Not sure why.
