Never ever worked for me. Never accepted the password and ID. Another fine creation of AT&T and Apple.

viewmymessage.com isn't an Apple creation. It's what AT&T has for phones that aren't MMS enabled. Yeah, it sucks the iPhone doesn't so MMS, but that website isn't Apple's issue.

I was able to log on and check an MMS today. It won't work on my iPhone, but it does work on my laptop and on my desktop at work. I think the site just doesn't work with the mobile safari browser. Kinda defeats the purpose of MMS...

It doesn't work on the cellular data connection the iPhone uses, but does if wifi is used on the iPhone for it (or if you use some sort of VPN setup). It's (like others said before, including me) related to the assumption in the past that MMS-incapable phones had no means to access it via GPRS/EDGE, so AT&T disabled its use there long ago (this system's been used for 6+ years now if I recall correctly).

OP: I used in last night with no issues whatsoever. It may be just a normal glitch... which is very common with that system.
