RSM; then what?

Good Afternoon everyone.
I have been a Retail Store Manager for nearly a year now. I worked my way up from RSC to RSM. I have 2 children and one on the way...I am getting to a point in life now that I want better hours than retail. Plus I feel I am being jipped on my salary. Although I should not know this I have two friends who were hired on outside the company and they are making nearly 10k more in base than I am. It's hard to stay motivated with the ever increasing workload, added pressure from above and ALOT higher medical insurance deductions. I am a top 5 store in my market and my two friends who are RSM are 50+ in stacked rankings. Have you or do you know of others who have left the company as RSM and what field did they go into? With the skills they aquired at AT&T as an RSM did they find added success in a particular field?
I know we are entering a recession and I should be thankful I have a job......retail environment is getting old!
Thank you for your time!

No sure I can add much helpful insight, but you might get better response posting this in the att employees subforum.
As the CEO of a small business I would say to you in general that one year is not enough experience. I would give it another year and then evaluate. Hopefully the economy will pick up by then. Good luck.

IMO, you may want to stay where you are now, making those kind of decisions while under some major stress(pregnant and needing medical insurance) most likely wont help.
Ever think of just staying pat now and thinking about the future while doing some research? I'm just suggesting let your situation take care of you while you need it.
Just my 2 cents worth.

you need to think of your kid on the way and then seriously hit a career counselor.

I know guys than have ended up in insurance, marketing, one went to Motorola (still there), and others that moved to other carriers to get district level jobs, and others that did a lateral to other parts of the company before moving up.
Basically, anything. Most pay better than AT&T does.
P.S. If you want to be an ARSM, you'll have to be a good RSM for at least 5 years.

Go to your ARSM and tell him you need more pay (assuming you can justify it) or you will start looking at your options.
If you are indeed as good as you say you are they will most likely do what they can to keep you.
