I see a few threads here but none seem to really offer anything worth reading. I'm a long-time HoFo member and I know there has to be someone out there with some knowledge they can impart.

Have any of you heard of the upcoming W.E. (Works Anywhere) Phone? It's going to be an Android device offered to Google Apps customers through their local Wireless ISPs.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/01/...android-device/

This thing looks VERY promising...
WiFi and VoIP
Full HTML web
streaming media
up to 8GB SD cards
USB HOST SUPPORT!!!

Call me crazy but I'm a newly registered Google Apps customer!

Does anybody have any further info to add? Any other Android devices out there that we should be knowing of (Native Android devices, not cramming Android onto some other phone)

WE phone/neo1973/neo freerunner = GPL

android, e17, QT/KDE/trolltech, GTK/matchbox, javafx all work currently on this device. This is a completely open mobile linux box. Any native software can be written and used. aGPS is completely open and FREE.

USB is not powered unless that has changed.

android = apache 2

yep ... too bad it's fugly

(they seem afraid to copy the iphone design ? ... why ?? there arent a thousand ways to design a touchscreen handheld..)

since you seem to be in-the-know, ive seen that the CETC P168, although a cheaper knock-off of an handheld, runs qt. Im not sure i like their attempt at copying iphone's osx, however, so i'm curious to know if this device will accept other fashions of linux, even in theory maybe maemo, android or openmoko's interface?

one thing the 168's got for itself is it's not so ugly, specs arent THAT bad & the price is downright low. I could get one unlocked for less that 150 bucks.

It depends. Not too familiar with that phone, but if it runs linux you should be able to compile a version for it. It will not be easy if you don't know what you are doing.

Outside of GSM smartphones by HTC, don't expect too much "reflashing." If you are talking about the VZW voyager, forget about it. Don't expect much from CDMA in regards to this.
