Smartphones in Japan

Okay, I'll try to lay this out in a logical fashion.

1. Obviously, all discussion is related to Japan.
2. The carrier that I must use is KDDI AU (family plan etc)
3. I want to use an HTC MDA / AT&T Tilt / Tmobile- MDA style smartphone, of which the Japanese version is the S11HT at emobile: http://www.mobilewhack.com/emobile-...ter-smartphone/
4. AU does not appear to offer any HTC sliding keyboard style touch screen phones.
5. Does anyone have a solution to 1-4?

Basically to sum it up, I'm in Japan. I like the HTC MDA style or S11HT style, basically touch screen + sliding keyboard. I want to use it on KDDI AU.

Thanks in advance, hofo'ers.

The problem here is KDDI au runs a CDMA network and it's one unique to Japan because they've reversed the TX/RX frequencies. The other three carriers (docomo, Softbank, E-Mobile) run W-CDMA networks on various bands.

What this means is, unless KDDI releases a smartphone such as those made by HTC, you really have no way of doing what you want to do. You only have two solutions - give up on the smartphone idea and get a regular phone out of au's model lineup, or change carriers to get the smartphone you want and give up the family plan (the other three carriers all offer at least one PDA from HTC). There's no compromise here unfortunately.
