Keyboard issues w/ 6700

I was just given an old 6700 (6700sp according to the back) and I have been trying to play around with it. The touch screen works as do the soft buttons on the face but the problem I have run into is that I can't get the keyboard to put up text on the screen.

I made sure the settings are ok on the input prefs. The Windows key and the two soft keys on the sides of the Q and P work as they should and the whole thing lights up when I press down on the pad but still I cant get the phone to use it for some reason.

I tried the Mobile Word, Notepad, and the text message programs and none seem to want to use the built-in hardware keyboard. So far the only way I have been enter text has been through the on screen keyboard.

Am I missing something? This is the first pocket PC unit I have used and its a little new to me.

Wirelessly posted (HTC Wizard: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) PPC; 240x320; HTC_P3600i/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

You're doing everything right it sounds like you just got a dud unit with a non-functioning keypad.

See what's odd is that the keypad lights up and when I was in the Help search function all the keys would output <...> when I pressed them. And as I said the Windows key and the two soft keys on the sides of the QWERTY pad work just fine. Its almost like the alpha-numeric keys aren't programmed to correspond to a letter.

I did a hard reset and still no luck. But the "Y" and "N" key worked just fine when it came to confirm the reset.

Also just curious, but can I use the charger from a RAZR to charge the 6700?
Both phones charge fine from my powered USB port on my computer but I haven't been brave enough to try and charge the Pocket PC from the Moto wall charger
