Tilt making Fax Noise....

Every so often I have this problem arise with my Tilt. Either I get, or the person I'm calling gets a squelch/fax tone when I call. This morning I made a call, never heard any ringing, yet the phone showed I was connected. Hung up & redialed (a landline). The person who answered asked if I had just called, 'cause when they picked it up the 1st time it was making the fax tone noise.

Any idea what is causing this? Should I contact AT&T??
