Im looking to get a new phone in august and i have pretty much settled on the moto q9m due to windows mobile 6 and more so the qwerty keyboard. Is there any other suggestions for a smartphone with qwerty keyboard that you can suggest.

purpose of smartphone for me:
-qwerty keyboard - easier to keep in touch with txt
-non touch screen
-windows mobile features (except internet dont need it)
-be able to load freeware games onto WM6
-of course multimedia(q9m)
-all around nice phone with decent features but not over the top

i have heard about the xv6900 but thats full touch screen and i was messing around with windows mobile pdas yesterday at work i dont like touch screen for typing or messages or the calender dont like that.

thanks in advanced

Check out the SMT 5800.

Has most of the same, and I like to form factor better.

You know I wasn't feeling the xv6900, I have a Q9m and its a great phone. I'm probably going to give mine to my sister because she loves my phone. I'm trying to decide if I want to get the q9c or a blackberry. I don't know. I too would like to know the best verizon smartphone out there.

Yea i dont like the touch screen the only reason is it does not have a FULL qwerty keyboard built into the OS, i called them and asked and they told me it is just like the regular t9 tapping except when words pop up like it predicts what you want you can tap that. I saw the q9c but it has nothing more actually it minus's the media interface, not a big deal, but its more geared toward business people

Yeah I was considering the Q9c because I don't really use my phone for media purposes besides taking a few pics here and there. My sis on the hand loves the media feature. Even though I was considering a Treo I do like that they have the touch screen feature and keypad as well so you can use either or both. I wouldn't want a phone that was all touch screen. Are you any closer to making a decision on a phone?

You'll love the phone plus there's so many apps out there for you to make the phone your own. I think I'm going to get the Blackberry Curve. However that could change and I may just keep my phone.

all smart phones can run

Doom, Doom 2, Duke3D Atomic

so it doesnt really matter what you get if you want to play games on it.

Sweet yes thats def some that i want to play on my phone. Sweet. I just wish i had the money right now to get it. oh well good things come with time, ill be back to post when i recieve the phone but you could help me with some program a friend told me about if i dont want data going out of my phone, like a firewall or something i can install on the phone. he did however mention if i have this peice of software that it cant stop mms messages from coming in to the account, that i will still be charged for them?

Posted by: Dette

you will not be charged for MMS unless you click the link to the Picture and/or download the picture
you will not be charged for receiving i do not think
i know of a call firewall but not a message one.. hmm

Ok its still looking like im going to have to put data block on my plan. What i dont understand is on a non smartphone with my messaging package, pix messages are included and are free of kb charge. but with a smartphoen they arent? not sure why im no understanding the sense behind this. Would you know why?

well i honestly do not know.. but i do know verizon has very odd data plans... internet used to just take up air time(mintues) on normal phones lol.. odd... but im on sprint and to download pics costs me data on my Q or my sanyo dumb phone so idk why verizon would do that

Beware of the SMT 5800. Unless Verizon updates it to WinMO 6.1 it is NOT ready for primetime. Well, unless you consider a phone that locks up on you all the time and requires a hard reboot by removing the battery to be a good thing.

Also, Verizon has locked out the GPS on the phone but isn't providing any way to purchase their mapping/GPS software for it so... you can't access the GPS through anything but Verizon software but Verizon has no mapping software available for it. nice... eh?

Honestly I would go one of two ways 6800 or BB curve. You have alot you can do with the 6800 and is soon to have 6.1 if you don't flash on your own. the nice thing is that is has Wireless built in at a slide of switch. Every Q owner I have talked with over the different version don't like it(Q, QC, Q9M) It is still a Motorola. If you are against the 6800 you are better off with the 5800 or BB Curve. Both have many apps to install. Google does allot for BB.

I have flashed my 6800 easy once you read XDA Developers and it is a lot nicer now.
