Is there an easy and safe way to delete all that garbage that AT&T and Sony put on my phone... all those ringtones and apps that I do not want to have to sift through to get to the good stuff I put on there?

this is what you have to do
go and find a tutorial for how to unbrand your fone, the one that tells you to connect your fone to the pc and hold the c button, go and find that and then, just go to the files on the computer using xs++ and delete them from their, no damage will be done unless you delete something important, ive done this and all the crap that sony gave me are deleted, all the crappy ringtones and pics are gone, hope i helped

If you don't want to debrand your phone you can also use FAR manager and delete the stuff you don't want.
