FREE HTC Tilt - Refurb

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

At&t is running a deal on their site right now through tomorrow. They have three free refurb PDAs with a 2 year contract and the Tilt is one of them.

Only problem is I can't find the details if you have to stay with certain options for a period of time.

I think I might finally have to jump on this.

Do you have a link?

It's actually on their front banner at wireless.att.com

I have been thinking about adding a second line and when I click on this offer it asks me to sign in to my account. I sign in and click "add a line" and go through the motions, but the Tilt refurb shows up as $149.99 not $0 in my shopping cart. The only PDA phone that shows for free is the Pearl. I am on a FAN account, so maybe I am not eligible.

Great deal but.. You have to create an entirely new plan which includes the $30 a month pda Internet plan and you can't get it if your just upgrading your phone. I was so pissed when I read this because just yesterday I bought the refurbished tilt for $150. but i calmed down when I figured out that I couldn't have taken advantage of this deal anyway because I was just upgrading my phone

I ordered my 2nd (for my brother) yesterday and online sales rep said once I get the phone and when I activate it, tell them I don't want the PDA option.
I have wifi at home and work. Between these 2 places is usually I'm either driving, am at a bar with friends or with my girlfriend. None of them require internet access.

I'm going to do the same thing, drop the PDA service when I activate. I've got wireless at home and at work, and most places you go to now have free wifi anyway. The only time I can ever see myself needing data is if I'm lost in the middle of nowhere and need GPS maps.

You people are lucky. My work doesn't allow their wireless to be used by PDAs. So there is one reason I need my plan. Next, a lot of the places here that have wireless have gone to giving you a wireless access code when you buy something. In other words you go to TofuHouse and order and when your Tofudog shows up you get the access code. TOTAL BS!!! Sure it stops me from sitting in the parking lot and using their access but it wastes a heck of a lot of my time when I sit down to eat. At the local Quiznos here it is on the receipt that you don't get till you get your order, not when you pay. So I sit there and wait on my lunch not being able to access, until I get my code that is printed on the secondary receipt....SECOND reason to have a plan.

Third reason, there are just a heck of a lot of places that don't have wifi or if they do the signal just sucks.

Last reason, I like to tether if I need my laptop.

So I saw this offer and decided to be myself and call and inquire to customer service.

I ordered the refurb unit online for $149.99, and am still keeping my wicked olf MEdiaNetMAX bundle for $20 a month for unlimited.

And when I get and activate the phone, they agreed to put a $149.99 credit on my account.

So in essence, I am prepaying almost two full bills, am getting the phone for free, and am keeping my awesome data package. LOL.

Of course, it took me nearly an hour and a half to get them to give it up to me that way.

why did they give yout eh 149.99 credit??

Posted by: bccass

Because I know how to talk to customer care.

They told me the deal was a way to entice new customers.
I told them to entice me to stay.

yo lucky bastardd you....

is the deal still on...i been out of contract for like a year now so im safe to upgrade

Posted by: bccass

Last I looked, they upped it to $99 for the special deal, $149 for the refurb with a 2yr renewal. Calling to get $50 back is still within the realm of what I would do with an afternoon...

I bought the phone and even filled out info to port my number over from tmobile...only for them to screw that up.I got a new number attached to my phone.I get phone Friday, port my number over(cs rep lady was really nice and helpful, was done porting in 10 mins!) and then somebody called me to go out that night....I COULDNT HEAR THE PERSON.Soooo phone was DOA.

Called back up there on Saturday when the returns department was open and the lady keeps on telling me that she doesnt see any order for my phone number.BAH so now im having replacement shipped Monday.

Just got my tilt.
Activated it.
Got my credit.
Happy days.

Already tweaked it, so it has transformers sounds for keyboard open/close, and some registry settings changed.

I had about the same experience;
Placed the order online with my number port
Recieved phone with new number
Called in, nice lady was able to port the number over in about 10 minutes.

I might need to return the phone for a replacement. I get a slight digital sounding static every so often from the rear speaker when it's sitting idle. It's only about 3 or 4 seconds maybe a couple times a day. It seems like it's interference with other devices but I can't force the problem to occur. When it's happening, if I pick up the phone, the static goes away. If I set it back down, it comes back (but only for a second). Anyone else ever hear of this problem?

EDIT: The sound itself is not coming from the phone, it's coming from other devices with speakers. I'm at work and it's coming from the internal computer speaker. When at home, it came from the TV. Still, when I move the phone, the sound changes. Is the phone not sheilded properly?

Posted by: bccass

my 8125 did that constantly.
I stopped worrying after two calls to customer care and they told me it is normal.
I then convinced myself it's the raw power of the phone causing other electronics to get envious and cry audibly.

Do they have this good of a deal very often?

Posted by: Rewind

I have not seen a "Free Refurb PDA" sale before. The only thing I could think of is that they had to have been getting a large stock pile and wanted to get rid of them.

I've had mine for just under two weeks now and it's great. I think I'm the only one who would even know my phone is a refurb. I was able to cancel the data plan without a problem and I haven't had any difference in quality over Verizon (Columbus, OH).
