how did you get holding 0 to activate the phone lock setting? When I do that, I only get the keygaurd, which is the double ok unlock, no security code.

all i want is a quick easy way to security lock the phone.. preferably automatically as well.

Hey, I'm trying to think of ideas to get the phone to allow files written to it. I tried QPST but I just get a file writing error when I try to write a file to the phone. Is it just a matter of having to wait until the Env2 Dll is available for the LG Download program? I would love to find a way to get in, but it's hard to test it out because I'm using bluetooth to connect the phone to my pc and it's very slow to load the filesystem with it.

Any button, then ok unkeylocks the phone. They should add an option to change that. Actually having to press ok twice would be good.

It would be great if someone would start a Bugs & Problems Thread...that way it would be easier for people to keep track of confirmed bugs.

I have a question about converting and putting the video into the phone:
What settings should i put it to for .mp4 and everytime i set a resolution convert it I can hear the video but cant see it. So I was wondering what settings to put it at to convert. Also whats the max res i can convert it too? I am using ImTOO 3gp Converter.

I agree, I have found a few myself.

1.Alarm doesn't go off if the phone is placed on the charger, but if you wake up take the plus out and open it in a few seconds it will.
2. Unable to set a mp3 as an alert tone without it repeating over and over again.
3. Vibrate is very low, sometimes I am unable to hear it go off in a text.
4. Text messages unable to vibrate more than once, unless a reminder comes up minutes later.

These are all I found, please let me know if they aren't bugs and I just don't know a setting. Thanks in advance.

Yea it does, especially since it's so new. I sanded alot of the asphalt off it and the screen is a little clearer and easier to read now lol.

1. Mine went off this morning and it was plugged in.
2. Idk about that. When I email mp3's to me they go to aac format and they stop.
3. Yes I think the voyager was like this at first too.
4. None of the lg's are able to do this.

i also have a few questions on the phone, maybe some of you folks can point me in the right direction.

ive had the phone since april 30th and last night was my first time taking video. when viewing the video in the small size, it looks great. when enlargeing it, its almost horrible. is there a way to increase the file size of the video or something so that it will create better looking video ?

ive read this in the thread, but now im having an issue with it. when receiving a pix message from someone, its to small. i have to save it to my phone, zoom in, then resave it to get a decent size photo. any way to get the pix messages to show in a more normal size ?

calendar reminders. when i set a calendar reminder to go off at a specific time, it wont just ring once. it keeps ringing and ringing and ringing. it will drive you nuts ! any way to set this to a single ring alert ?

finally....profiles. are there any profiles that can be set for the phone as far as the ringtones and such ? iv had phones in the past where you can set profile 1 to ring on incoming calls, vibrate on txt messages. or vibrate on incoming calls, then alert on txt messages. this was extremly helpful while at work. i work in a quite office environment. i need the phone to alert me, but the vibrate is so weak that i cant hear it. id like to set a work profile that will vibrate, but then play a mosquito tone on txt messages. is there a down and dirty quick way to do this without reassigning tones each time i come in and out of the office ?

1. Did you see "charge complete" on your phone when it had gone off because I believe that was what I saw on my phone. And when the alarm goes off in vibrate mode I believe that the sound for the alarm doesn't go off it is in vibrate mode as well. Is that just me?

I've been reading through the entire thread trying to find information about BitPim. Turns out if you activate your phone, BitPim no longer works. I also remember someone taking a bullet by resetting his phone to factory to get BitPim working. No go there and had to manually enter his contacts again. Thanks for that.

So what I was thinking is, reactivate your old phone. Reset your Env2 to back factory then try BitPim again. If BitPim works or not, reactivate your Env2 again. So this brings up the question, are you allow to reactivate any of your old phones anytime you please?

What do you guys think? Will try when I get home from work.

Someone has already tried resetting the phone and activating a different phone - that doesn't do it.

And you can switch your phones around all day long - that's a free service offered by Verizon. It is free from verizonwireless.com, that is.

EDIT: we need an insider to leak us the 9100 dll - then we can at least use LG Download to put the phone in NV Edit mode. Then BitPim (or QPST) will work.

I work for the fed government and get something like 20% off or something like that... I have my mom and sis on a family plan, and my mom works for the state... they did the math at the store and said with my discount it would be 120 and my mom's discount it would be 99... I know they gave us a form at work you had to fill out and send in, ask for it at your work

Yes, there are a few quirks but most phones have quirks. People love to complain about the littliest of things but I would say 95% of people are satisfied and love this phone and we only see the 5% that like to complain.

Buy the phone and you will love it.

I'm 100% happy with this phone... does everything I want, I've been playing with it non stop for the last three days (able to do this cause I'm on vacation) and haven't really found anything wrong with it... I recorded my own ringtone (did a voice message to myself and saved it), have been picture messaging non stop and people call and tell me how good the pics are. The quality is disgustingly good, and I have a wire ear piece I use that works great as well...

Upgrades will be available in a couple weeks and as Rose said, its fairly easy to do it... just make sure your in a good reception area...

great phone otherwise..... buy it

just through google reformatting via a gmail link, courtesy of me being subscribed to this thread.....it has worked several times now.

Haven't tried going straight to the forums, but other than that, via a gmail link on my enV2 works fine, other than it never remembers you on the login screen, even with "remember me" checked.

#1 Yeah, the issue is not being plugged in, it's if you have an unchecked Call, Text message, and I think even ESPN Alerts (which I get a lot of) stop it as well...so I suspect there's just an issue when something is being displayed on the outer screen, that alarms won't go off.....so it might just be when it's plugged in, since it will continually display the missed call or whatever, and hence, no alarm.

#2 That's interesting with the mp3/AAC difference....worth noting

#3/4 True, although i'm not really bothered by the vibration, and since my phone is basically always in my pocket if it's on vibrate, I usually feel it go off, or the reminder -- regardless, I'm not really holding my breath for a stronger vibrate.

I pretty much couldn't agree more.....I might max out on the happiness rating about 98% right now, but considering I'm coming from a phone that I was 50% at best......I can't complain too much right now :P

What was the big deal everyone was making about the ACII calling plan? ACII is what I have but I'm just wondering why everyone was trying to switch to it.

Plenty of threads on the new Nationwide plans in the main Verizon forum.

Old ACII plans: data by the minute
New Nationwide plans: data $1.99/mb

Anyone know where to get a data cable from other than verizon, or what charger it uses same as what other LG phone? the previous env?

Well, it looks like I am taking my second phone back. It is exhibiting the same and actually worse issue than my first one. Now, it does not happen all the time but 4 times in the last two days when the phone's keyguard is activated and I either open the phone or hit the "OK" button to deactivate it the screen does not go to the default screen. With the first phone it would go to the "New Contact" screen and now with the second phone it also goes to the "New TXT Message" and "Messaging" screens(on outside).

I got both phones at the same store so I am guessing maybe they got a bad batch. No one on this board has experienced this problem so I am thinking it is just a bad batch of phones. I am going to go to a different store tonight to get a new one. Hopefully this is the last exchange because I really love this phone except for this one little glitch.

I also emailed LG and asked them if they could add a fix to any firmware update and all they told me was that they do not issue firmware updates and I need to contact my provider. LOL

well, here we go again!

I just ordered this microusb to miniusb adapter for $0.97 (about $5 shipped) - http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Micr...10280814&sr=1-2

That should allow me to reuse all my miniusb chargers and cables (from my RAZR) on my wife's env2. I'll let you know how (or if) it works when I get it, but I doubt there will be any issues.

Is it possible that the keyguard is deactivating in your pocket (like mine does)? I can reproduce this scenario you describe. I hit ok ok, then choose a menu and do nothing. The keygard will now kick in but next time I go to open the phone it will be one of the menus you described.

That's exactly what I've been thinking everytime I read an update about his issue. Seeing as no one else has had this issue, and he has had it on 2 devices.

Simply hit Ok a few times and then do nothing. The phone's display shuts off, and then when you open it later it will be on the New Contact screen (for example).

agreed. when the keygaurd locks, it locks where you last left off. it doesn't reset to the default.

So definitely no Bitpim yet? I'm new to LG phones and modding in general but I just tried Bitpim over Bluetooth with no luck. Thanks for the info.

Before phone is activated: BitPim = Yes
After phone has been activated: BitPim = No

So has anyone had any issues with the enV2 and carrying pouch magnets? I remember reading lots of reviews about people's original enV outer display going wonky, possibly due to the carrying pouch magnets.

Any such happenings with the enV2 ?

Any thoughts on the magnets jeopardizing the electronics of the phone?

thanks for any feedback or recommendations...

Are you sure you aren't hitting up or down by accident before you hit ok twice? Remember, any of the other buttons and then ok unlock the front.

My wife bought one at Verizon last week, and has been using it with no issues so far.

I'm using the Verizon leather carrying case with my enV2. It has the magnet style closure, just as I had with my enV, and I've had no issues with the screen or anything else. The magnets do not do anything to the screen from my experience.

Posted by: loco63

i just purchased one of the leather pouches from ebay. i always buy accessories for my phones on ebay. this phone is so new, there are hardly any accessories out for it yet.

for instance.....i need a clip that will allow you to open the phone without removeing it from the clip.

Has anyone been able to get caller id info over a bluetooth headset and if so how? All I can manage is a ring notification on my jawbone. I've tried all the different settings in the voice command menus for call alert and prompts. It's a bit of a pain to take the phone out of the pouch to see who's calling when my hands are full at work.

I almost didn't recognize you. Did you do something with your hair?

Some (a lot?) of flipstyle phones use some sort of magnetic device/switch built into the phone's hinge (or somewhere) as an "open/closed" indicator. The side effect of that is some combinations of phones and cases (with magnetic clasps) can cause some weird issues. Like you'll pull the phone out of the case, and as it slides past the magnet, the phone will light up (like it does when you open it). I've never heard of any damage occuring, just these odd side effects.

Usb mini to micro adapters are available @ t-mobile stores (not sure about all kiosks--the one i went to had none) for $4.99........on ebay you can get a cable for $3.45 shipped from the US, or less if you're willing to wait for shipping from china. I didnt bother to look for adapters, since theyre available for so little locally.

also for 2.5mm to 3.5mm (stereo mini) adapters.....i ordered one on ebay for $1.89 shipped the other day....coming from michigan

It doesn't send the custom ring or ringer id to a Bluetooth headset. I don't even know of any phones that do that - none of mine do.

There are some headsets with caller id though, and those work - of course it is the real caller id info, and not the custom name from your phone.

A while ago I read a post in which someone complained that the magnetic style phone case was the cause of his/her reception issues. However, I believe that is false as well.

I hadn't seen that posted before. I suppose if the magnet in the phone was interacting with the magnet in the case, and there was sensitive circuitry located in the phone such that it was also being affected my the magnetism ... but I'd rather assume that the person was mistaken.

I don't like magnetic cases, but that's mostly just personal preference (I like "sleeve" style cases, without a cover/flap/whatever).
And as an electronics tech, I wouldn't advise one way or the other.

Any one wanna give me some kind of product number or link to tmobiles site where I can find this adapter? I went to a tmobile story and they just looked at me funny when I asked.

So after reading this entire thread I didn't see anyone mention this temporary fix for the ringtone issue.

I simply rename the mp3 that I want to use (example name.mp3) to ringtonesname.mp3 and then use the V Cast Music Manager to load the file to the phones internal memory. If you have a micro SD card make sure you remove it before syncing the phone with the V Cast Music Manager or else the file will be loaded on the card and not the internal memory of the phone. The file must be in the phones internal memory to show up as a ringtone.

After loading the file to your phones internal memory the file should appear as a ringtone.

The only problem with this method is that once you power your phone off, the file will disappear from the rintones list when you power it back on. However, if you have the file set as a ringtone, or message tone, or ringtone for a specific contact it will still play even though the file can't be seen on your ringtones list.

If you want to be able to select the file from your ring tone menu once it has disappeared just repeat the steps over again and poof there it is again.

I believe this will overwrite the original file you placed on the phone.

Hopefully this is helpful until there is a bitpim fix or we can get our hands on the vx9100.dll

it's a RAZR 2 charging adapter......if you look, earlier in this thread someone even provided a SKU.

Matter of fact, much to my dismay, I'll make it extra extra easy :P

These adapters allow you to make use of current "Mini-B" accessories with a phone that has a MicroUSB port... i.e. it converts the Mini-B plug on your charger or data cable to MicroUSB so you can use it with your phone.

P.S. Anyone know of active threads elsewhere that might have info on BitPim on the VX9100? Just thinking maybe there's a stray idea or two that could be cultivated.

I must preface this by saying I mean in no way to be offensive, but...

Isn't using myxertones.com or something just much, much, much easier? I understand if it spammed your phone with advertising texts or something, but it's VERY quick to sign up for, and gets a file, with a name of your choosing (albeit "-" isn't an option you can enter, but sometimes existing ones will make it through).

I suppose you can only do like 10 or so a day 100% for free, but it still seems vastly superior.

Don't get me wrong, I would much rather not have to deal with a 3rd party site, and just do it myself, but for the time being it's fine, and I assure you it's not the ringtones I'm most worried about with bitpim...it's the vast array of other things I'll be able to tweak.

Regardless, that's a very interesting solution, and more than anything I'm wondering if that can be used in any other way.....

Doesn't myxertones.com alter the sound quality of the file? Also don't you still pay to receive the message?

I should also add that the "ringtones" part of the file name becomes invisible when the file is in your ring tone menu with the method i previously mentioned.

Posted by: Humpa

I bet most of you have some sort of messaging package.

Isn't the easiest method to just put them on the microSD card? And you can use a myriad of methods, including Bluetooth, the simplest. Once they're in the my_sounds folder, you can send them to yourself.
Unless you don't have your ringtones already, or you want to use an online solution to make and send them - in that case a site like myxertones.com would be good.

Either way it is an mms message to send a ringtone - though from your phone it is counted as IN, if that matters.

Posted by: almostastr8boy

Ok guess the aforementioned method is overly complicated. Just thought I'd throw it out there

Without BitPim, I would use the VCast sync method - but that's just because I don't have a messaging package and I give them enough money, so the 25 cents bothers me.

Not that I've noticed...I don't think it reduces them lower than 128kbps, which I don't think you'll notice on the speakers....

And yeah, if you have an SD card you can just send them to yourself, and save in the appropriate place

Posted by: lundy

I have been going to mytinyphone.com

You have the option of downloading the rings to your computer.

You can grab ones that have already been made, or upload your own and custom tweek them, and send them back to your computer. I then email them to my phone. I am still on an AC plan tho.

I can't say that this is true, but it seems that when I use this site, the files are smaller than they would be as MP3's (I save them as .mid to computer before emailing)

ALLLL FREEEE!

I dont know if this issue has been mentioned or can be remedied, but when you have the wired handsfree headset plugged into the 2.5 mm jack, pressing the Send/Receive button will automatically dial the last dialed number dialed instead of taking you to the Voice activated menu.

Kinda of annoying as i think the voice guided menu would make more sense, especially when driving you dont want to be fiddling with the phone.

I thought the same thing but I have even left the phone sitting on my counter in my kitchen and I have gotten the same issue.

I am on my third phone which they gave me a hard time about because they could not replicate the issue. Basically said this is the last phone if they cannot replicate it.

In addition I mostly keep the phone M-F in a horizontal case with the keys facing in towards me so nothing is inadvertantly hitting the keys.

For the uninitiated, could someone explain what is bitpim, how does it work, why does everyone want it with this new phone, and what kinds of things can you "tweak" with bitpim?

sorry for such basic questions, but I'm the noob

Has anyone figured out what the format is for the moving wallpapers. I've tried .gif and .swf and loaded to my memory card and the phone doesn't see the files.

Posted by: etaham

Jestic,
Bitpim is a program that can read/write information to your phone. It can handle your contacts, sms messages, calendar entries, media, ringtones and more. It also give you access to the phone's filesystem. People want it so they can put whatever they want on their phones.
Visit bitpim's website, install it and try it to learn more.

You've had it on all three of your phones. No one else has ever seen it.
The odds are very much pointing towards operator error.

The only other thread I have run across is in the main Manufacturers>LG forum at;
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1361661

I haven't had the heart to tell them that if we have to wait for the 128-bit hash key to be decrypted, this could be a while...

Yes, I am sure I am not hitting any other buttons. The only thing I can think of is that there is a bump in the horizontonal case where the clip to hold onto the belt is. If I push on the phone it hits right where the OK button is at. Of course I don't really bump the phone from the side much and this issue has happened even when the phone was out of the case for a while.

Well, I am on the 3rd phone. We shall see if it still happens. If it does you may be right but since I have tested the phone out of the case and it has still happened (and I am making sure I am not touching any other buttons but OK) it might be an issue with the phone or just a bad lot of phones came out.

I've had mine for 2 days and it's already called my boss while in my pocket. Is there ANY way to change the keyguard code to something other than OK? I need a sequence that's harder to hit, like 1-3-OK.

I have not had mine make any ghost calls yet and as far as I know it has not even unlocked itself but I have the one touch dialing turned off so even if it did it would have to hit redial or make a ten digit phone call to make a ghost call.

No - this has been covered numerous times.
Either put it in a pocket without any other objects in it, don't wear tight pants, get a different case (if you are using a case), or perhaps do what the last poster suggested and turn off one touch dialing.

Editing WAP settings and the like....the #1 thing I'm interested in at the moment is swapping the verizon home screen for Mobile Web to my google account....also bitpim just leads to other interesting things that have been disabled usually, and of course, easier moving of files, etc.

I know this was mentioned pages ago, but there was one specific bug I don't think was addressed. True, when I set my entry-mode for text-messaging to "Abc" or "ABC" it defaults to "abc" on the internal screen. On the external screen, "ABC" default will work, but "Abc" only remains for the first letter. After I finish typing in the first letter, you can see it automatically changing back to "abc." Anyone else have this problem? This problem is for both the internal and external screens. Even if I manually change the text to "Abc" for each text message, the setting only lasts for one letter and reverts back again to "abc".

Please help! I was considering going into the store and playing with the model just so I know I'm not going crazy...

Also, when do you guys think silicone cases will come out for the env 2?

Now, it does not happen all the time but 4 times in the last two days when the phone's keyguard is activated and I either open the phone or hit the "OK" button to deactivate it the screen does not go to the default screen. With the first phone it would go to the "New Contact" screen and now with the second phone it also goes to the "New TXT Message" and "Messaging" screens(on outside).

I may have seen this behavior as well. Mostly with the New Contact screen, I think.

But for me it seems to happen fairly infrequently, so it's not a big issue. And it's easy enough to press End to get back to the main screen. I usually spend a second or two puzzling over anything I may have done differently to get there, before giving up and moving on. If it continues to happen, and I reach the conclusion (as you have) that it's a bug in the phone, I'm sure I'll be faster about just pressing End and getting on with my life. Will it become an annoyance? Only time will tell.

As far as I know, I've never had the phone unlock by accident in my pocket. And although I feel as if I'm somehow responsible for this behavior by pressing extra buttons or something, I've yet to reproduce it intentionally. This morning it seemed to happen when I took the phone off the charger...and my thumb pressed the volume rocker. If I remember correctly, the outside display showed the New Contact screen. And when I tried to dismiss this (End), I got the "Press OK to unlock" message. So I actually had to press OK, and then End.

Though as I sit here and play with it now, I have made it do some strange stuff. Try this:
1. Unlock the keypad.
2. Lock the keypad by holding 0.
3. Wait a second.
4. Press and hold the camera side button until the Press OK To Unlock message disappears.
5. Release the camera button - this may start the camera.

This seems wrong for two reasons:
1. The initial press of the camera button shows the Press OK To Unlock message which makes it seem like the camera function should be subject to the keyguard.
2. I can't make it do this all of the time. Hence, steps 1-3 above...which may seem ritualistic, but are the most reliable way I've found to reproduce this "bug".

Does the enV2 do this for anyone else?

Yep, did the same thing for me as well. Very strange. This means that the keyguard is not working correctly. Although if I do not follow those steps it does not happen.

i sorta found a solution but not really guess it only works for new messeges not responding to others, if you change the qwerty short cut to text messages, when u open up keyboard and start typing it actually does start with caps in the text messege. this might help some people

I can't give you a direct link because it asks for your zip code before it'll let you view products - I used my work zip, try that - it's 43209.

Yeah, I noticed this as well.....it's still not perfect, but having to hit shift, or deal with lowercase messages isn't a big enough problem for me to be _truly_ aggrivated by it.....maybe in a month or something, but hopefully an update in the next month or two will actually happen, and these little problems will cease to exist.

Yep, me too....very interesting.

Personally, I don't think I've once had it call someone, although once it did answer a call I didn't hear over a lot of noise at work, and another time it hit some random symbols.

My battery meter stays a long time at the full 4 bars and 3 bars, but once it gets to 2 bars, it goes down a lot quicker. Is this normal with the LGs, enVs, or mobile phones in general?

It is rather normal with Li Ion batteries in general. Just like that last 30% of your laptop battery - all of a sudden you look down and your 30% is now 15%.

The way I view my battery and when I should charge it is that once it drops from 4 to 3 bars I figure I'm about 1/2 way thru the charge - so I charge it the next time it is convenient for me (or whatever - it depends. If I know I am going to be near a charger, I won't bother charging it. But if I'm going out for the day or whatever, I'll top it off). If it still shows 4 bars, I don't charge it.

Thanks Humpa. That makes sense. You're right about the laptops. My laptop battery drops like a missile near the end. Also, I checked out your ringtones at your sight and got the classic old school ringer. Love it. Cheers!

From what I have been told the VX-9100 does not work with Bitpim. I suspect that LG is using a new sequence to set Download Mode. If anyone has access to the VX-9100 LG Download DLL please let me know so I can determine if there is a new challenge sequence.

In the meantime, can someone please send me a protocol log from using the phone with the VX-8700 setting. I want to see how the phone responds to the DM challenge sequence. PM me for an email address to send the protocol log to. Also, if anyone knows of new firmwares for existing phones that break DM mode let me know.

I am also curious what directories are locked?

Thanks,

No problem.
And I am old school - so I just have those couple of ringtones and I'm happy.

Mark_V has a good collection though - http://mark.cdmaforums.com (go to the "ringtones" link). Lots of default ringtones from various phones/manufactures and other sources.

Awesome eno!
I'll get you that log now and post it.

Also I forget which directories are open - but there are a couple (just nothing useful).

Posted by: Humpa

www.humpa.com/downloads/bitpim.txt
That's the protocol log - I set phonetype to 8700 and did a Get Phone Data

And then I tried to copy a file from each of the directories, and here is that log:
www.humpa.com/downloads/bitpim1.txt (this one is 1.5mb's, since it includes me trying to save a file out of all the directories - so please don't download this unless you are eno )

Would the protocol log from an unactivated 9100 help? I don't have that, but before we activate the 9100 we have normal access via BitPim (though I used the vx10000 phonetype - didn't try 8700, but 9900 didn't work for me).

I can save files from the root, DMU and brew (not sub directories though).

EDIT: and just to clarify, I had the phonetype set to 8700 - I only used the vx10000 before the phone was activated

Posted by: eno

Hmm, the phone's response to the challenge is longer than on previous phones but it retains some of the same basic fields. With the DLL it is possible I could crack this new response very quickly. Without the DLL I can only make blind guesses as to how the challenge-response has changed.

looks like a crack down on 'our' bitpim access, so they can sell more services & slow down bricked phone replacement rate

Have any of you used the phone charger yet? My dad has a Moto Z6c which uses micro USB as well, and we have a car charger for that... don't know if using that for the EnV 2 will be ok. I can't find input/output specifications on the car charger.

What is the best way to take care of your battery? Or to initialize it / "break it in"? I've heard not to always charge in the "middle of the battery" charge, that you should let it run all the way out before charging it all the way back up?

Is it ok to do as you say, Humpa ?

It seems to me that there's still a lot of mythology surrounding newer rechargeable battery chemistries that properly applies only to NiCad batteries. NiCads were well known to suffer from memory effects...if you didn't discharge them all the way, then the next time they would discharge only to the previous low point.

I refer you to the Wikipedia article on Li-Ion batteries that says in part:
Guidelines for prolonging Li-ion battery life

Same here. Locking the keypad with the "0" also appears to reset the Keyguard timer back to 7 seconds.

I love my Env2...but the first one I got had a dead pixel right in the center of the internal screen, and it started to drive me crazy, so I called in an exchanged it. And now I got my new one today, and right of the bat, the F key is stuck! I mean it still works, but it feels different and is harder to use than all the others. Ugh.

I really don't want to have to wait for a new one to be sent to me again. Could I just go into a Verizon store and ask for it to be exchanged? (since I got my first one less than 30 days ago)

(^I'd call and ask myself, but the store's closed right now)

Well I haven't had any problems with reception but where I live reception is never a problem with any carrier. As far as call quality I have found myself saying "what did you say?" at least a few times in a conversation, I have turned the noise reduction off and it doesn't make this any better. Also the phone isn't very comfortable to hold while on a call. Those are my only complaints about the phone though since I got it but honestly if this is supposed to be a phone first those two problems aren't good.

I would have to agree....probably the best reception since my v710, and the call quality is spectacular, although I haven't tried tinkering with the "Voice Clarity" on and off too much yet.

Also the speakerphone seems to be quite phenomenal, much UNLIKE my RAZR v3m, on which the speakerphone was nearly useless when there was even the slightest hint of background noise.

Anyway, short of a couple very small issues, I haven't hardly a bad thing to say about this phone....and most of those issues will be addressed sooner or later (fingers crossed in the "sooner" direction)

You can actually upgrade with New Every Two at 20 months.

I have had my VX9100 for a about a week and…
1. Poor call quality!
2. Poor reception!
3. Key-lock sucks, it keeps calling people while in my pocket!
4. Front menu is not in a very logical order, and way too small!

I think I will be taking them both back to verizon.

Are you in a bad area or something? Even in the sub-basement of a gigantic concrete building i get good reception and call quality.....

and sorry for forgetting the name (im on my phone....would be difficult to go back), but no prob on the heads up about the adapter.....thank mark venture for always being on top of things!

I turned Voice Clarity off after having it on for a week or so. It basically leaves a dead silent period when the person on the other end isn't talking, and it actually sounds just like when the line goes dead and the call is dropped. I was constantly asking if the person was still there. I would rather have the background noise any day.

Hello!

My wife and I got the enV2 yesterday and like them alot!

We were wondering, what case(s) would be good with these phones?

I heard some cases will make the phone dial a number.

Thank you!

I had gotten a very nice case at the verizon store by body glove, fits perfectly and has a magnetic over the top clip... I was assured by the clerk and lg that the magnet wouldn't screw with the phone... if I can find it online I'll send the link, but its a sweet case

Posted by: ZiLT

The sending ringtones with xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com works for the most part. I sent about 10 or so, but I have 3 .mp3s, not to big, and for what ever reason they keep getting rejected when I send them. It is driving me nutz why. I can not find a common reason why.. anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm using Verizon's leather case that has a strong pivoting belt clip and magnetic flap. It fits perfectly and works great.

This "dials a number" business is just due to user carelessness and has been way overblown. Just be sure that you wait seven seconds before allowing a keyboard press before putting the enV² in a pocket or case. If you are that impatient, you don't even have to wait the seven seconds. Just press the Zero (0) key for a second or two to engage the Keyguard feature.

well..ive been listening to all of yaw..very good info..got my env2 couple of weeks ago and love it so far. the biggest thing for me was that those buttons on the env1 were just to small..i was always hitting the wrong number(ANNOYING)..new sleek style, more compact and the inside keyboard is so much easier to type on then the env1...and just simply better looking. IVe had nothing but compliments. BUT....i am very dissapointed about no BITPIM... ...im using myxer.com..( and wavepad to edit my ringers).but its just not the same...the quality is not as good as if going through bitpim.(wallpapers too!) Oh well...im sure real soon someone will figure something out...but besides that the phone is great i even found a really nice leather case (W/ magnetic flip) that covers the entire phone (at wal-mart of all places) for $13.00. its obviously rectangular (black) big magnetic flap that is the same size as the width of the case itself...and has the name BYTECH on it...and the BEST thing is that it is a PERFECT FIT .check it out . if anyone has any new info on bitpim working with the env2 9100 please post asap!!!1 thanks

Posted by: retroh3x

I was looking through some of our old comp cords for our camera, PDA's and i think i found a micro usb cable!!!! score now when i get my enV2 i can connect it to the computer without bluetooth...but i am a bit of a noob so this could be wrong but ohwell

I have good reception where I am but the call quality is still a bit off. The 9100 may have a problem with the ear speaker clarity because like I mentioned before I am always asking people to repeat themselves and I've never had that problem this bad with a phone.

Posted by: JOKER

OFF TOPIC....I searched but I didn't really see anything. I noticed that VZ Navigator has been upgraded for the ENV2. It is now version 4.1.1 which you can download for free through the Media Center. It gives you traffic, weather, events, etc. I knew it was upgraded for other devices and I was waiting for it to come out on the ENV2, I noticed it last night and downloaded it....pretty nice.

Posted by: bleufuzion

forgive me if this has already been addressed (haven't been here in a few days), but has anyone had a chance to compare the call quality of the enV2 to the glyde? i've had mine for over 2 weeks now, and love it, but the jury's still out on call quality...i'm getting great reception, but i too have to ask people to repeat themselves a lot.

there have been numerous stories and threads about how magnets can and/or do cause weird things to happen on cellphones. I ditched my magnetic case after going through 4 8600s. I cant prove it but I believe the strong magnet is what caused some, if not all, of the weird things such as dialing when in the holster or sudden mute when on a call, etc.

Posted by: lukeca

My wife picked up the env2 today, we got it for $69.99 after $50 mail in rebate and NE2 because I guess there is some sale running on the env but our store ran out of env, so they automatically transferred the deal over to the env2, pretty sweet.

Magnetic cases, as with magnetic pocket badge holders, all most likely are designed with Mu Metal (yes, it's spelled correctly) shielding to prevent spurious magnetism from penetrating where it's not wanted. I have no doubt that the case that Verizon sells for the enV² will not affect the phone.

So I am really confused on how to get ringtones onto my env 2 without bitpim. I do not want to use a website but people have been taking about emailing them to themselves or using their memory card to transfer it to their phone. Can some please post exactly how to do it. Thanks

Step 3: Put file on memory cards in my_sounds folder (card in computer)
Step 4: Go to sounds on phone and hilight the ring tone you put on the memory card (card in phone)

Thanks and is anyone having trouble with their phone not recognizing their card? Because a few times in only have the phone for 4 days it says my micro sd card is full then does not recognize it anymore until I take it out and put it back in.

I've searched this thread a lot (not all 49 pages so i apologize if this was indeed covered some place in here). I cannot seem to get my mp3's to show up "My Music" so that i can use that to stay organized with my MP3's. I saw someone say it had to be in the my_music folder on the card but there is no such folder created when i formatted the card in the Env2. I can put them in the My Sounds folder on the card and they show up just fine in the My Sounds on the phone but will not work on the My Music.

Also once BitPim gets figured out for the Env2 is it a difficult program to use? I've never done it before but don't want to incurr the data changes that are associated with sending yourself ringtones via text message Also what is required to make the data connection from pc to phone or can it be done via bluetooth?

In the CC ad that starts today, the enV2 is $99.99 after rebate

THIS

Calculator function really needs to be added to the outside menu.

Haven't had much time to play with this yet. Moved from my E815 and quite pleased to see OBEX working without having to fuss around with Bitpim. Our first LG experience (wife likes it too, which is saying a lot considering she's usually the don't-care-just-gimme-the-freebie type. Made Mother's Day easy.)

I was going to mention that the E815 was the previous alarm clock issue but someone already brought it up.

I also had a couple contacts that lost their number on the way through Backup Assistant. They were rather random - I'm not sure if it has something to do with which number the Moto had them assigned as or something? Will investigate further after sleep (haven't recycled old phone yet.. Still have to offload some photos, and don't know if I can bring myself to do so even after.)

I'm still reading 5/7 stuff, but will finish out the thread before sleep (currently 3:15 EDT. ack.)

PS - Thanks to whoever mentioned Goog411 - know about Free411 but Google's offering sounds even better.

On one of my sons' phones (they both just got the Env(2)) there was a problem of some sort when the card was set up, and the my_flix folder wasn't created properly, so I just created the folder using Windows. So I'd suggest just create a my_music directory on the card and copy your songs to that folder, and don't put them in sub-folders under my_music...as far as I've seen, all MP3s have to be together in the my_music folder.

Don't know if they stock them for the Env(2) but www.bestskinsever.com has great screen/body protectors for lots of phones. If they don't have the Env(2) specifically, you could easily cut one they sell for another phone to fit the Env(2). (I believe they sell "sheets" that you can cut to fit your specific need.) I've got a couple protectors left over from my BB Pearl that I'm going to put on my sons' Env(2)s.

that's something else a little weird about mine, you all keep saying its my_music and all of my folders are named this way: MySounds

Also, at least in the Northeast region, VZW is currently running another Red Hot Deal Days with the enV2 @ $99.99/2yr, $169.99/1yr contracts each after $50 rebate.

Yes, there are a couple options available....If you search back, you can find links... www.invisibleshield.com is a popular one.

inside the "music" folder (I believe it's called), just create a folder named "my_music" and put your mp3's there....they will show up in your my music on your phone

And bluetooth OBEX is possible, and as long as your follow directions carefully, and don't go messing around too much, I've always found BitPim quite a breeze.

Yes, I believe some of the options for moto number assignments aren't liked by all phones, I've had this minor issue in the past.

yesterday on verizon's website the env2 was $129.99 with a $50 rebate. That would make the phone $79.99. Today I went to verizon's site and it's $149.99 with a $50 online discount to make it $99.99 with no extra rebate. What's up with the new price?

Bye Bye Env2. Last night I reverted back to my Motorola E815. Here is why:

1. They Keyguard. Despite the arguemnt about one being "Impatient" I can assure you that the phone IS locked when I put it in my pocket. Why should I be "Forced" to put it in my holster just to compensate for a poorly designed key lock. I have disabled speed dial (why should I have to?). Yesterday, my phone called 3 people by accident. One of them was embarrassing because it woke somebody up at 7am on the West Coast. Later my brother said he got a blank voicemail from me (this was actually my phone calling him from my pocket. Maybe my pants are too tight, maybe my thighs are too big, I dont know, but I can tell you this, my Motorola E815 never, ever came off of keyguard (menu *) without me intentionally doing it. Yes there is a chance a firmware upgrade may alter the unlock sequence but I really dont want to gamble on that as I am still within my 30 days.

2. Issue 2. Reception. I live in a fringe area, that I know. My E815 was not 100% free of breaking up but it was acceptable. With the Env2, I literally have to be careful walking waround my house because it would break up so badly. One person said he couldnt hear a word I said. I use my E815 ALL the time at home but am never told I cannot be heard.

3. Voice clarity. Since I got this phone, even when I am in strong signal areas I find people are frequently asking me to repeat myself. With some people I also find that I have to really focus hard to understand them. It's not the volume level, but some voices sound a little on the "Synthesized" side and I too have to ask for a repeat.

4. Lastly, while this isnt the deal breaker I might as well mention that the entry mode bug is just sort of the icing on the cake. I"m referring to the internal screen defaulting to "abc" even though I choose "Abc" Texting was my main motiviation for wanting this phone and it would be nice if it worked properly. Maybe I am spoiled by my Blackberry 8830. who knows.

I truly wanted to like this phone. I counted the days to release like most of you. I tried to convince myself the quirks were acceptable. True, nobody has ever invented a quirk free phone and I have had cell phones since they were bigger than a luch box. For me, I will have to squeeze a little more life out of my E815 while I resume the search once again. Feell free to PM me if you want more specifics, thanks.

It seems like your location is more of an issue, and you need a phone with a superior/external antenna.....a totally reasonable problem, but I don't think an issue for most people.

Sorry to hear that you haven't been enjoying yours as much as I've been enjoying mine!

2. Issue 2.

I 100% agree! I'm taking both of mine back. If I press the phone flat on my palm two times... it calls someone about 90% of the time and has called several people from my pocket.

Thanks for your thoughtful info regarding your issues with the env2. It is really helpful to those of us who appreciate a phone for its basic functionality. Sure, you can mess with doing this, and doing that so your phone will not dial people from your pocket, purse or briefcase - but as you point out, why should you have to? This is an issue that should have been contemplated before the phone was released.

Ditto with entry mode.

To each his own on reception issues.

More and more, it seems as if the env2 is an upgrade in looks, but a downgrade in basic functionality. I question whether I should have to babysit and massage what should have been offered as basic functions.

I've been stalking this phone since January, and now I'm starting over on the search. Thanks again.

Well, I, and most people that I have noticed haven't had any/many problems w/ the pocket calling issue....and to be frank, it's just something that can happen w/ any phone that has an external keypad.

Haven't had any call clarity problems, but maybe that's just me....

the entry mode is honestly such a small issue (albeit a mildly annoying one), that I'm not quite sure why a few people are making it to be such a big deal.

And as for the entry mode and keylock issues....those should both be addressed relatively soon, as well as a couple other minor things. It's pretty standard for there to be a few little quirks when a phone first comes out, so I don't understand why people are so surprised that not everything is 100% perfect.

Everyone should weigh their options and interests accordingly when buying a phone, but it just seems silly to me that a couple of things so minor would turn people away, but to each their own, and if pocket calling was happening all the time for me, I'd probably be irritated about it as well, but their are solutions. Just set a code, and I'm fairly certain you will never pocket call anyone....even just a simple one like "1111" or "2222" or "2580" or something, if it's really that big of an issue for you.

And if you keep having pocket call issues and/or setting a keycode on top of the keylock is a major problem for you, then maybe this is not the phone for you, or perhaps external keys are not for you in general.

Either way, I wish you luck in finding a new phone, and to stusinger and others who are actually experiencing these problems, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, I have never been so happy with a phone myself. Suppose you can't please everyone though!

Posted by: MCRN77

I've been looking back, because I know it was discussed... is there a way to phone lock from the outside? Are people setting the keyguard to 4 digit codes? And if you can, please let me know how... can't find this in the book

Posted by: Redflea

My son's both have had this phone...neither of them has had a single "accidental call." They are stuffing them into and pulling them out of tight jeans pockets, and the buttons are under pressure going in, coming out, and while inside...just not an issue for us...they love the phone.

Posted by: Fawkes07

Has anyone had any issues with the notepad? When I got my enV2 last week I manually inputed my old notes from my enV into my enV2. A few days later all my notes in my enV2 are gone! Do u think it might be a bug with just mines? thanx!

Posted by: eric.dickinson

So we all know that the key lock on the enV2 isn't perfect. Whether or not this is a problem for you apparently depends on how tight your pants are. Though I can't directly help any of us with this issue, I have some thoughts. And if LG is listening, so much the better:

1. The unlock sequence is too simple. Does anyone disagree? Could anyone disagree? Other phones I've had with exposed keypads have used a 1-2-3 unlock sequence, which has never given rise to a problem.

2. The simple "Press OK" unlock sequence could be [vastly] improved. The single biggest problem with it right now is, they allow an OK key press to unlock the keypad even while another key is held down. This is why you can unlock the keypad with your flat palm, as bridgesr reported. If they changed this, I think it would fix 90%+ of accidental unlockings.

But to take this a step further, they should ignore all key chords. Since chords are not a part of the input scheme, ignore them. As soon as the phone detects more than one key down, ignore all key strokes until all of the keys have been released. A change like this should also help improve unintentional dialing via one-touch speed dial or redial.

I got a universal leather carrier with a magnetic closure its a universal carrier that says it fits slim flip style phones. I dont have a part number but i got it from the local verizon store and it fits absolutely perfect for our phone. it was a 20 case. hope that helps you figure out which one it is if you go to the store.

Posted by: umi414

i made the trip and woohoo. all of you go get your money.

no problems with reception here, but i live in the nj suburbs of nyc (a verizon stronghold) so i imagine even the dumbest phone wouldn't be that bad.

also okay with the keyguard. it's annoying (i wish it had a lock switch similar to the moto z6 and iPods), but something i can live with. i've had no accidental calls, and buttons are only pushed down when i physically bump into something with force.

the entry-mode thing is more than just a small issue for me. i don't know why-- it seems silly but it IS a messaging phone and hence a simple function such as "Abc" should work seamlessly. why LG would not catch this seems really strange to me. not enough a reason for me to return the phone, but i hope this is fixed in updates.

Posted by: diab0liK

Well its doubtfully an LG problem, and more a verizon UI glitch.

and for whoever was asking about the keyguard......you can hold zero on the outside

Well that seems a little silly....but sending it back in doesn't seem like much, and I guess how much you would be saving should be the determining factor....since it's easy enough to back everything up.

Does anybody know how long RedHotDealDays on Verizon's Website will last?
Will the env2 go back up to $130?

I also think it is really stupid that you can't have "calculator" on the outside. The phone looks like a calculator, so why not?

I had the same problem. I entered a todo list when I first got it. I thought maybe it was erased by messing with BitPim or hard shutdowns with Mac/USB(reproduceable bug to have the phone shut down when chooseing USB storage while hooked to a mac). The 2nd week I had entered Addresses, and again the notes seem to disapear every couple of days. I'm not sure what is going on.

Posted by: diab0liK

Just to confirm, I too just called Verizon and was able to get the $30 credited to my account, and with my NE2, that makes the final cost of my phone $0!

So I recommend anyone that paid the $179.99 before NE2 discounts, or Mail-In/Online rebates to call and get your free $30!

Hmm, I'll have to try and do this myself....I use (and recommend) www.rememberthemlk.com for such things, but it's an interesting note, and certainly worth addressing if it's a legit problem.

I was actually just going to make an addendum to my post....

be warned, they tried to offer me 250 minutes on my phone for this month to make up for the overpaying, insisting that it was a $112.50 value (at the ridiculous 'overages' minutes price). DON'T GO FOR IT!

Anyway, what I said was that I just bought an env2 (I bought mine on Apr 30th), and that I was thrilled with the phone, but upset to see that there was already a promo running the phone @ 149.99 instead of $179.99, and said that I was considering returning the phone, and/or if it was possible to just get credited the $30 difference. That's when they tried to offer me 250 mins, I turned it down, she asked where I saw this price, and then several minutes of delay while she looked for the appropriate "code" and VOILA $30 credited to my next bill.

I would recommend everybody jump on this ASAP, because a free $30 is worth 10 mins on the phone.

I also had complained that I was on the "mail-in" rebate, as opposed to "immediate", but didn't push it....perhaps if I hadn't mentioned it, I could have gotten $80 off, and/or at least gotten the $50 now, and the mail-in invalidated.

Anyway, everybody go *611 and get your $30!

I just called *611 and got $30 back on the first try. It took some pressuring but finally he put me on hold and came back and said they could do it. He was either not very smart or didn't feel like being very helpful. I just bought my brother one on the 7th under the lost/stolen/broken phone program (1 yr. pricing w/ 2 yr contract) so I paid $249.99 up front. This guy tried to say that since I already got it cheaper, it wouldn't be covered under any refund/Worry Free Guarantees.

GRRR!

I made the apparent error of purchasing my phone at the VW kiosk in our small Circuit City. Last time I bought my phone at BB and that was a hassle because they sell the phones direct, so I know that headache. However, the VZ in our CC is independant of the retail store and is actually run by VZ corporate. However, the first person I talked to at 611 couldn't get that through their head and they seem to have "poisoned" my account with a note saying I bought them through Circuit City, because now when I call they start on the defensive without even asking where I got the phones.

*sigh*

Am I off base here? To validate my believe that they're independant, they had the same SanDisk MicroSD card as the one 2 isles down and they were charging ~$10 more for it because CC had it on sale. Seems to me that if the booth was CC, the sale would apply at the booth as well.

Please restore my sanity and tell me I'm not crazy.

Is microUSB the official term for what the phone requires? Most USB adapter sets I've found don't mention it and I can't tell from the picture if it would work for my phone.

Does anything think this set has a microUSB adapter in it?

I just called in and got my $30 refund on the next bill! Thanks to all who posted the info on this for the notification, I wouldn't have thought to check.

My conversation went something like this:

"Hi I just purchased my phone and noticed that it has already dropped $30 on the verizon website. I was considering returning it or getting a refund for the difference in price I paid."

The lady looked up my account, said yes, it has dropped $30, and said the credit would appear on my next month's account. I DID purchase from a kiosk in Circuit City, and she didn't mention anything about where I bought it.

Good luck all, hope this helps.

Posted by: btrvalik

I was able to get the rebate via email..0 min on hold The key seems to be this statement from VZW.. "However, you are within your 30-day equipment satisfaction guarantee so I have issued a $30.00 credit to your account for the difference in price."

It is difficult to say since promos are actually done by region (it is possible that not every region is even running the same promo). But typically a VZW "sale" will last around 2 weeks.

To be clear, phone lock and keyguard are two different things. There is no way to do a phone lock from the front that I know of. Someone claimed that they set the keygaurd from the front, and somehow it activates the phone lock. They never responded to my questions.

Ideally, we could phone lock from the front.

Posted by: deejaybos

I got my EnV2 on Friday. Friday (or early Saturday rather) at 2AM I heard the sound of ringing in my pocket. Turns out I was accidentally dialing my moms phone in my pocket. She answered all scared that I was laying a ditch somewhere or in a drunken heap dying for help. In reality, I was just in the driveway pulling in. After explaining that I wasn't trying to call, it just dialed in my pocket, I realized that a better keylock for the front pad is what would make this phone go from "great" to "nearly perfect".

I tried doing phone lock, but that's just too much work to have to browse through all the menus every time just to make sure I have a locked keypad. As a temporary work around, I make sure to clear my "recent call list" so that there's no easy access to anyone on my contact list. To make a quick call, it'd be "OK >> send >> send", but as long as the recent call list is clear, it's a little more complex to get to a name to dial from the front.

Either way, it'd be nicer if there was a key combo or a front face code lock. Like, "hit OK, then dial 1,2,3 to unlock" or something to that effect.

Anyways, jut my 2 cents, but overall, this is a great phone.

Invisible Shield and Best Skins Ever have the same product (in terms of the material used)...Best Skins is typically cheaper, and have great service (emailed once on an issue and they sent me two free skins that day). I agree that the VZW "kiosk" in Circuit City seems to be a real Verizon Wireless store. I bought my enV2 at a standalone VZW store, but went to a Circuity City yesterday and asked at the kiosk for the $30 price adjustment, which they were able to credit to my account. It seems to me that if they were a part of CC, they wouldn't have this access to my account.

Posted by: Redflea

Yup. I was in a Verizon store this weekend and they sent me to a nearby Circuit City store to get a memory card when the VZW store was out...the CC store gave me the same corp. discount as the VZW store would have.

Posted by: Hellie

Those of you that are getting the additional $30 credit for the drop in price of the phone (Red Hot Deal Days).....did you purchase your phone originally with NE2 discount or did you pay retail price?

I called *611 last night about it and the sr told me I didn't qualify for the credit discount because I purchased my phone through telesales and got all of the "discounts" that applied at that time. He was pretty adamant, as was I! I am considering calling back one more time and trying again (with the $30 credit it would give me the phone for free!) but just wondering if you all have gotten the $30 credit on top of any "discounts" you were given at time of original purchase. I am still within my "30 days" as I purchased my vx9100 on April 21st.

Posted by: roundtrizzle08

I purchased the phone at 2 yr contract price and used my NE2 discount over telesales on the 24th of April and I was able to call and get a $30 credit. When I called the guy said he wasn't sure so he looked up "price match" and read exactly what that says to me. Something along the lines of if you purchase equipment they will match the price if it goes on sale within 30 days. So if you didn't get it the first time, I'd just keep trying.

Posted by: vwspeedracer

Followup - now that they're opened, I called up the Kiosk and one of the folks that helped me out yesterday basically said the 611 folks didn't know what they were talking about, they are a VZ Corporate store, and I didn't want to battle out on the phone to just swing by and she'd take care of it there.

So the score is VZ Kiosk 1, VZ CS 0. I'll be heading there after work, and since I'm there anyway I might just pick up another accessory as a gesture of gratitude.

Posted by: Hellie

I paid $179.99 for my phone. Wound up with $150 in discounts and rebates which I thought to be a pretty good deal...$29.99 for my phone. Still trying to decide if I should go for the price reduction deal (and wind up with the phone for free) or leave well enough alone.

Love my enV2 by the way!!

Good luck. The only scary part w/these types of protectors from Best Skins and Invisible Shield is that you actually have to get the skin wet to apply it. It feels so wrong to put something wet on your phone! ;-)

I turned my phone off, removed the battery, and then used a blow-drier on it before I put it back together and turned it on again. But it all worked out fine on the two Blackberries and the iPod we put them on so far... :-)

Something along the lines of if you purchase equipment they will match the price if it goes on sale within 30 days. So if you didn't get it the first time, I'd just keep trying.

What was the date of the $30 price drop? Going to compare to when I got my kids the phone and see if I can get it...

I called and they told me that they will not issue me a credit for the drop in price.

I too am a victim of random pocket calling now. I had the phone in my pocket with nothing else. not leaning against anything and it managed to get in my contacts list and then called the first name on the list. that is freaking retarded that a phone will do that.

Is there a LG contact (phone, email, web form, HF user) we should be channeling our request for a better lock through?

Perhaps here:

LG Electronics MobileComm

Of course, this contact information is via none of your requested mediums...but it's the best I could do.

I emailed LG concerning the issue and this was their response:

"Dear Customer, Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Any software/firmware upgrade will be implemented and made obtainable through your service provider. You will not receive any upgrade from LG. As such, please keep check with your service provider concerning the availability of any software/firmware upgrade. Thank you again for inquiring of LG Electronics. Amber C E-mail Administrator Customer Interactive Center LGEAI"

So unless Verizon hears enough complaints and "threats" to return the phone and updates the software or firmware, we're out of luck.

I've had less of a problem with having the keypad face away from my leg. I didn't want to do this originally for fear of the screen cracking, but decided I can't live with it calling people.
Plus, I have insurance.

Could some people chime/re-chime in about the reception and call quality of the env2? As the phone has been out longer I have read a few more negative comments about these attributes. I am up for a new phone and still wondering if I should get the original enV As I saw nothing but compliments for its excellent RF etc. Anybody with both phones care to compare the two in this regard again? Thanks!

I've been checking out all these helpful comments while enjoying my new enV2 Maroon. I have a quick question about the Invisible Shield product. Does the enV2 version cover the camera lens? And does this affect picture quality?

Other quick comments, based on what I've read here...

The phone is great, works just fine, good phone quality and battery time. No problems at all with dialing or other phone functions being triggered in my jeans pocket. I guess most of you are in much better shape than me, with rock-hard button-pushing leg muscles!

I've found the Verizon/LG black silicone case to be a bit too restrictive, sacrificing a bit of sensitivity in button pushing and masking the attractive maroon casing. I keep calling it "the condom" "scuba gear" or "the gimp suit". I may try to return it or exchange it for the clear version, at least until I get the InvisiShield.

Also, this may be news to no one but me, but this isn't the best phone for video games due to the buttons being too small and close together for intense gaming sessions. I've learned to use the enV2 when playing Zuma, but there are a couple screw-up moments each game because my big fingers accidentally pushed the wrong key.

Adapter Set

What you would "officially" need is a Male A (4 pin) to Male Micro-B (5 pin) USB Cable. That kit lists quite a few adapters but not the one you need. The cheapest cable I found through a quick search through Google Shopping yielded:

3ft USB 2.0 cable (Micro B Male to A male) (~$6)

Others on the thread have recommended using an existing Male A to Male Mini-B (5 pin) cable with a Mini-B to Micro-B Adapter (~$5 if you already have a Mini-B (5 pin) Cable).

Hello HowardForums:
Long time reader first time poster. I must say I wasn't really interested in this phone when I first heard about it. My LG VX4600 still works very well except for a battery issue which causes the phone to overheat and hardlock once every few weeks. For the past few months, I had been looking at replacing my 4+ year old phone with the Motorola Z6tv or Z6c. However, the fate of Motorola's Cellular Division is unknown and I've been looking for something with a bit more functionality. I've looked at the BB Pearl, Samsung SCH-i760, as well as the recently released BB Curve and HTC XV6900. All of which seemed to offer more than I needed. After following both this and the "Unofficial Release Thread" in their entirety as well as playing with it in my local store; I've decided to go with the enV2 because of the small form factor, aesthetically pleasing design (unique but not too flashy), QWERTY keypad (which I find to be very easy to type on), fair picture quality (this will be my first camera phone), and mp3 playback (for the times I don't lug my 4th generation 20GB iPod with me). I plan to pick one up this week during the Red Hot Deal Days promotion. Here's hoping this phone lasts as long as my current LG.

Why? It would seem that having a "one-piece" solution is better than needing two cables, two connection points, etc.

Posted by: diab0liK

Yeah, i would agree, i prefer a single cable, AND an adapter, for travelling, my car charger, etc. I ordered a cable off ebay, but for the first time in a long time, i got a bad one. Fortunately earlier that day i had already picked up an adapter from t-mobile.

A wothy sidenote though, is that the music player doesnt seem to have any drastic effect on b[tery life as far as I can tell, which is a definite plus for me (especially having my ipod out of commission).

Update on the $30 Rebate:

I called Verizon and talked to a polite operator who put me on hold a couple times, never gave me any crap about asking for the $30, then finally asked if she could call me back. After about 15 min, she called back and told me that there is a message on my account on this, but I had to go back to the Verizon store where I bought the enV2 and they would apply the credit there. Whatever, it's only a short walk from my apartment. I dealt with another polite Verizon person there who also didn't understand why they couldn't do this all over the phone. It turned out to be a really complicated procedure, with lots of help from the supervisor over the next 15-20 minutes. ("Now I know why they passed the job onto you," I said and she gave me a look as if to say "Yeah, tell me about it!") Then she finally gave me a receipt for a $32 something check that Verizon is supposedly going to mail to me.

Just about as convoluted as it gets, but everyone was nice about it and they've promised me the money.
