Those with over a 1,700 posts on a cell phone forum being those without spare time, eh?

Well, point taken. Finally signed up for some image hosting space, and here you go:

I use the outside display for contact lookup. And if you ask me, LG screwed this up a little bit.

So it breaks down like this:
1. Press OK for "Menu"
2. Press OK for "contacts"
And Hello! "New Contact" is the first choice, above "Contact List? Really? Do they really expect you to create a new contact more often than you look one up? From the external keypad?

Am I the only one troubled by this?

Posted by: papasin

not a huge problem but it is weird that they put that before looking up contacts. but all cell phones have something that the consumer will disagree with and this is one of them but very easy to live with. i would rather push ok and push ok to get to contacts. it would be easier while driving and looking up contacts, but i use speed dial or voice dial, i find this feature much easier b cuz not only does it find the person it also dials it, go for that instead.

I understand. I have problems with the external contact list myself. They should have let you choose if you want to push up or down for contacts I'm so used to the right softkey for contacts and my friends gsm phones are all push down for contacts that the push up still confuses me sometimes when I'm in a rush to make a call. More importantly is the contrast of the background image and the backlight for contacts, they should have used a black graphic behind the contact list, the colors for the contact list text and background image mesh in such a way it makes it a little hard to read and it doesn't help that the name text is so small, it could have been a little bigger with the space given. It would be nice if Verizon made a fix with that in future software, I'm sure there are some older people who have this phone that might have problems reading the contact list as well because of this, I mean for the most part people will get their contacts from the front.

I'm guessing you're under the impression that I do them? I don't, so you may want to repost the pics in the avatar thread.

odd... My USB cable came today and while I was playing around with it plugged in I noticed the desk clock came on!

Not sure why it never worked while running off the AC charger, but it has come on repeatedly while charging off my laptop's USB port. Very strange.

just received the invisible shield. i got the full body one and let me say i dont like it!! i'm only gonna use the ones for the screens and thats it. It changes the look and feel and color of it. i only did the external screen so far and it looks great! i will do the inside tonight. if your thinking about getting this item for your env2 ONLY get the screens, the rest is a waste of money!!i'm thinking of calling them. They didn't mention anything about it changing the look of the phone, it gives it a shiny look! dont like it one bit.

Posted by: Rob2791

Has anyone figured out how to change the wap settings after activation? or any major editing??

Posted by: Rob2791

I can access my filesystem in bitpim and my phone is activated is that new?

Did you take any pictures?

I'm curious if anyone has used the full body one and took any pics. I was considering getting a set, but it depends on how it looks.

What other case/cover solution is anyone else using?

Posted by: MCRN77

I've been trying to make my own ringtones and mail them to my phone, but the phone won't open them... the file size is 519k, I assume that's too big, even if I save it to the card...

aside from buying a cable, what else can I do?

I know this has been discussed before but my eyes are getting tired of re-reading all the post...

You can access, but you can't save to or from the phone.

For example, go to the OWS folder and save the paramtable1.fil to your pc. If you can do that on a 9100 that has previously been activated, then you would be the first person to do so.

Make file smaller and try again.

Yes, we figured it out - but it was figured out a long time ago. You need BitPim or QPST and LG Download and the appropriate DLL. So, as soon as someone leaks the DLL we'll be good to go - and BitPim can come up with a fix as well (they use the DLL to make their changes as well).

Strange. My InvisibleShield enV2 full body just came in the mail today as well.* I haven't put it on yet, but I can see it will be a slow and painstaking job. If my other camera doesn't give me any grief, I will see about posting pics here.

The camera lens is not protected. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing when it comes to InvisibleShield, but that lens is one of the main things I wanted to protect (especially considering it is on the back of the phone, the area most at risk for scratches). When they say "full body" protection, that's exactly what I want.

As for the shiny look... Well, that's exactly what you see in all of the demo videos on their site, so I'm not sure why that's such a surprise.

*Free shipping and it showed up in just under a week. Not bad.

You can resample to a lower bitrate and also make it mono instead of stereo.

A ringtone longer than 25-30seconds is a waste. That is the max amount of time that a phone will ring before the call goes to voicemail.

remember this though. if you cover the cameral lens with the shield it will alter the way the pics look. I dont think you would be very happy with the outcome of that.

True, which is what I meant about it potentially being a bad thing. I just got off the phone with the InvisibleShield people and they said they don't do camera lenses for that very reason. Since they didn't mention this on their website, I figured they had found a way around that problem.

They also said illustrations showing exactly where each shield piece goes are not currently included but will be implemented in the future.

Okay, I'm off to struggle with the process of applying all this and figuring out where one or two mysterious pieces are supposed to go.

FYI ... the slightly arched peice for the chrome trim goes on the top ... and comtinue from there ... my gf got hers outta whack by using the stright piece on top

Thanks... lowered the bitrate and significantly smaller...

Now when I try to email it to myself, it says 'Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently'... know why it did this? any suggestions?

Change the filename. Change the subject line. Change the text. Change email clients - and in your email client try Plain Text as well as HTML.

It is simply the strict spam filters Verizon has in place - lots of spam txt's trying to get into Verizon's network, so they have really tightened up their spam filter. So either put them on your microSD card and send them to yourself (spam filters don't block messages coming from a Verizon phone) or find a good method that works for getting thru the filters.

Is there a way to make a short cut to "note pad"? I can make short cuts to every other damn option...

Ok so my friend is eligible for an upgrade and does not want to get a new phone. She is upgrading to the enV2 with 2 year activation renewal on her account to get the phone free and giving it to me. How do I go about activating the phone on my account? Do i need to activate the new phone on her account first and then deactivate it and put her old phone back on before I can activate the new enV2 to my account?

Thanks for your help!

Yes you go to 1-settings and tools 2-phone settings 3-set shortcuts 4-set qwerty shortcut (shortkey) and then it will give you the option of doing nothing, a txt msg, or notepad. ^This means that if you have your enV2 open and are at the just main screen where you would normally dial using the inside...you start typing and it automatically opens a notepad for you.

^if you watch this video the guy shows you how to do this (but where he sets it to txt msg make yours notepad) it's near the end

Posted by: papasin

didnt expect it to look like that.InvisibleShield i will NOT be using the full body! just the screens. No i didnt take pictures. it says to wait 12 to 24 hours for it to dry. I looked terrible. not impressed with the screens either. If u can save ur money and wait for a case or buy JUST the screens and NOT the full body. for the price it a rip off b cuz of how it has to be applied. U have to be very very careful, it would be nice if u can take ur phone in somewhere and have it done by someone who has done these before. it like putting tint on a car window. u have to spray the film then apply it to ur phone and squeegee out the air bubbles, pain the the arss! goodluck if u decide to get one.

Thanks for the info! I had it already set like that, but didn't realize just typing brought up the notepad option.

I agree with you here papasin. I never liked the shields that I put on my enV, and ended up pulling them back off and only using the screen cover. Some people might like them, but not me. I am only going to order and apply the outer and inner screen shields for my enV2.

I just bought one of these from a Verizon store.
http://niteize.com/productdetail.ph...&product_id=124

It was $19.99 for the magnetic close version, and has an elastic loop to put a BT headset through to keep it all together. Some other pouches and loops for other crap too if you want to fill them. lol Can't see using any of them myself, but it should protect it from scratches most of the time and eliminates the annoying habit of pocket dialing.

I use the same case when I'm inline skating. I think it offers good protection. The only thing that I don't like about it, is how both ends at the top of the phone stick out of the case. However, the clip itself holds the phone very tightly against the pants, so I don't see the phone falling out, even if I did hit a good bump.

Spending more time reading this forum and acquiring QPST, bitpim, and accessories than using the phone.... As it is my wife and partner at work keep harassing me about playing with the phone too much.....

Was thinking that kinda makes it hard to dial with it open, but then I decided I use voice dialing most of the time anyway..... Or key it in on the front pad faster anyway.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about this magnetic flap thing..... But it seems to work well so far. I carry a multitool on my belt right behind it so I'm always flipping the case open reaching for the pliers..... At least the phone fits snugly, and has to be pulled out all the way to get it out. I work tech support going all over the place, crawling under desks, stringing cable over ceiling tiles so I guess I'll see how well it works soon enough. Next question will be how well it holds the headset I have on order. I'm half tempted to add a AAA maglite like in the photo on the site just for those times I need to look in dark corners.

Posted by: Grondar

Black or maroon.. Which do you prefer?

I have the VZW belt/pouch that is black w/ white underside, and magnet to fasten flap.. It holds the original Env very well, but will it be too wide for the Env2?

Really like the original Env, and the Env2 seems better in every way...

I, too, ordered the "full body" invisible shield and received it about a week ago. I still have not put it on my env2. Considering the cost, I would have thought there would have been some kind of diagram showing where all of those pieces are to be applied. I am pretty sure that I have figured out where they all go but I still have not rushed to apply them yet. I have also considered just using the pieces for the exterior and interior screens but I think the area that will be most vulnerable to scratching will be the chrome trim pieces. Having the chrome trim covered would be the only reason I would not return the "full body" shield in exchange for the "partial" shield. I also am not sure I will like the change in the way it will turn all of the "dull" black areas, such as the entire back, to "shiney" black.

Will someone please post your opinions and possibly pictures of the finished product after you have applied the invisible shield to your phone?

Posted by: papasin

i will put the full body on after work wait for it to dry and post some pic so u can all see how bad it looks. NO INSTRUCTION on how to put it on. you can figure it out just have to look real hard at the pieces, but for as much it cost there should be something on how to put it on. Im still gonna call and complain how it changes the apperence of it.

Posted by: papasin

one more thing i noticed that when u close the phone u can see the imprints of the keyboard on the internal screen.....not cool. this was a waste of money. i would wait for a proper case to come out, u will spend a lot less money. I'm gonna try and get my money back!! the imprints is not huge deal u can wipe em off easily. if u want some just to protect the LCD screens the get JUST THE SCREENS, NOT FULL BODY. I keep repeating myself but i dont want u guys to waaste ur money on the full body one.

As much as it sucks that it's not working out, thanks for the info!!!

Looks like I need to just tell the wife to "JUST BE CAREFUL!!!"

Posted by: THKKPorter

I have the invisible shield on my maroon enV2. I like the way it feels but what I don't like is that it deepens the color of the back of the phone. The back was a matte maroon...almost rubberized and when you put the shield on it deepens that color. I wouldn't mind that so much if it would cover it completely but some of the smaller areas that don't get covered are still matte. I agree about not having instructions. That sucked. I almost put the pieces that cover the chrome around the internal screen instead. Not cool. It did settle nicely though. When I first put it on I was nervous about the way it looked but after a few days it looked alot better. The edges of the shield can collect a little bit of lint but overall not bad. I admit I wish it was cheaper because for the money it wasn't worth it. No instructions as to where all the pieces go and the fact that it has those few minor flaws. I would have liked it to cost less.

Posted by: NKTizzle

Thanks for the pictures!!!!

I don't think I'm going to go with that protection solution. Not quite sure what else to consider...

Posted by: f38urry

I think not.

Posted by: donsev

Just curious, but why are some quickly removing the original film protectors? The external screen film on my enV2 was quite well applied at the factory, and frankly, looks better than the protector in the previous pics (no offense). Although it has only been a week, it seems to be holding up nicely. The same for the internal screen protector (I never did remove the one on a previous enV, and it lasted for a year and a half). As a matter of fact, I'm tempted to even leave the keypad film in place, at least until it starts peeling.

i put an invisible shield on my ipod. it's great, but i would ONLY put it on the back. i don't trust putting any electronics devices near water, so the front of my ipod i used another clear protector.

http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=139854

that is my post about how i applied the Best Skin Ever, another version of the invisible shield. There are also tons of posts about how to apply the invisible shield on that forum, too.

i'm getting an env2 today, but i don't plan on getting a cover like the IS or the BSE. just a holster of some sort. i like those cuz when i wear basketball shorts, the phone tends to slip out easily. any suggestions?

I think the idea is that it makes adding a new number/contact, as convenient as possible.

When looking for individual contacts, I just type the keypad number/letter corresponding to the first letter in their name I'm looking for, and it jumps to that point on the contact list.. At least it does/did on the original Env.

thanks, i did see your post. i'll have to check it out in person, i usually have the holster in my pocket, and that might make my pocket too bulky.

should i try to bitpim before i activate my phone, or can i do mostly everything w/o bitpim w/ my sd card and emailing myself?

I agree that this makes adding a new contact more convenient than looking up a contact...but this is the very thing that surprises me, since I look up contacts way more often than I create them.

What state is your phone in when you start pressing buttons to jump to a point in your contact list? You mention it here like it's a good shortcut to get to the contact list from the "Idle" display. But I can make this work (jumping to a point in the contact list) only after I'm already looking at the contact list.

And since we're on the subject, I'm a little disappointed with how this "jump to" feature works on the enV2. On my old Samsung a950, when you would type letters in the contact list, it wasn't just a "jump to", it was a filter. So if I typed the letter D, the on-screen list would show only those entries starting with the letter D. And as you scrolled off the top of the screen or the bottom, the cursor would wrap back around...nothing but D's. So to call my friend Doug, I got pretty used to typing D, and then pressing up, since DO was at the bottom of my D contacts. Now when I do this on my enV2, I wind up at the bottom of the C's. Are all LG phones like this? I guess I hoped that Verizon's standardized BREW UI would have been more consistent across devices.

Okay, my thoughts on the InvisibleShield...

I think the screen shields are definitely worth getting. You need to take things as slow and careful as you can getting these on. The external screen shield went on like a dream, as it is a relatively small square shape that makes application easier. The inner screen is a bit tougher, and mistakes caused me to reapply with some distortion and tiny amounts of air/other stuff getting caught underneath. But, at many angles of view (and with the right imagery onscreen) you won't really notice anything is there.

I am glad for the pics posted, saving me the trouble of posting some. BUT EVERYONE SHOULD KEEP THIS IN MIND: the pics there had to be taken at a certain angle for all those flaws to be visible at all in the photo. Again, at many angles, you aren't going to see all that. I was a bit disappointed by the air bubbles or wrinkles, but I've used clear contact paper to protect lots of my big softcover books over the years and I'm used to a couple air bubbles or wrinkles here and there with the process.

I think the shields for the chrome trim, available only with full body protection, are also worth getting. But I'll say this: putting long thin strips of this sticky invisible Wonder Woman technology on long thin strips of chrome that you've just polished to a mirror shine... will drive you crazy! You have to match up the tabs at each corner just right, even though you can barely see what you're doing. I wound up with a bit of overlap at a corner or two. But the InvisibleShield material does "learn" about the shape of your phone as it dries, tightening and becoming much more smooth.

The shield protection for the back of the phone will be a deal breaker for some. I think I am liking it, although I did prefer how the color and texture of the maroon back looked naturally. The battery door piece is pretty easy to apply, but the shield piece around it (area around the camera, down the headset jack side, down the hinge area) is very awkward and trapped a couple air/liquid bubbles. I was able to work most of these bubbles out after the shield had set for a couple hours, very slowly pushing them along using a dime. I kept thinking the bubbles were going to pop, as I was pushing VERY HARD with the dime, but I eventually got them to the edge of the shield.

So basically...
THE GOOD:
The sheer amount of protection you get is no joke. Someone would have to stab your phone straight through with a knife to scratch it. I just tried a quick scratch test on the inner screen using a Bic ball point pen and was shocked to see I had put a blue line on it! But then I just scratched it a bit with my fingernail and all the ink came right off with no indication that I had done anything wrong! Also, I am really happy at how easily the shield keeps off all the natural oils that normally smear all over the phone from handling it and holding it to my face when making a call. Normally, I'd have to clean the phone each time, but the InvisibleShield makes that unnecessary.

THE BAD:
Unless you are really practiced at applying these things, you are most likely going to wind up with a less than perfect application, with bubbles of air/solution, fingerprint residue, or distortion from removing and reapplying. You will protect the phone from further damage, but these flaws will (at certain angles) look like scuffs incurred from a year or two of use. But, as I said before, slow careful use of the shammy or a coin can smooth out some flaws after the first couple hours after applying.

It would be great if InvisibleShield just had a cart with a trained employee (someone who's put on enough InvisibleShields to be really good at it) at every shopping mall to put these on for the customer. It would be amazing if the screen shields were just put on from the beginning at the cellphone factory. But home application is the way things are. You change the look of the phone a little bit and create a few flaws here and there, but the payoff is really lasting protection afterwards. I think this is a compromise I can live with.

What state is your phone in when you start pressing buttons to jump to a point in your contact list? You mention it here like it's a good shortcut to get to the contact list from the "Idle" display. But I can make this work (jumping to a point in the contact list) only after I'm already looking at the contact list.

I have to bring up the contact list before I can type a letter to jump... Which essentially involves clicking "Ok/Menu" to unlock, then one of the side buttons to bring up contacts, and finally typing a letter to jump to the name.

Quote:

It's like this on the original Env, and that's the first phone I discovered you could do this one.. It would be nifty it the jump acted as a filter, but on the original Env it just takes you to the first name with the specified letter, and scrolling upwards goes to the last name of the previous letter, as you mentioned.

Yeah, I think I've come to the following conclusions:
1. I must train myself to use the up-arrow shortcut to get to the Contact list.
2. I must get used to the "type to jump" function instead of the "type to filter".

Thanks for the info.

I haven't seen one in person yet, but I really like the pink numbers.

The phone reminds me a bit of Palermo's soccer jerseys. They are pink/black themed and look amazing.

A color different than the traditional black/gray can be an attention getter.. One on hand, black seems more uniform/professional, but maroon looks more unique, and arguably more snazzy.

Not the worst decision to have to make, as the phone looks slick in either color.

I have the black one and I think it still looks pretty unique. Definitely not a generic styleless flip phone.

Is there any way to export/backup/sync txt messages, contacts, etc? I know bitpim can, and Ive always used that, but until Bitpim can access the env2, what options are there?

I know when I had a moto phone, they had the Motorola phone tools for that. Does LG have similar software that works with the env2?

There's LG Download. I have it, but seems to be missing key files allowing it to detect and connect the phone. Probably the vx9100 dll file everyone wants to get bitpim working...

So does any part/feature of lg download work, or is it all dependent on the vx9100 dll?

Can I just drop them into "my_music" on the microSD card?

The inner screen is a bit tougher, and mistakes caused me to reapply with some distortion and tiny amounts of air/other stuff getting caught underneath. But, at many angles of view (and with the right imagery onscreen) you won't really notice anything is there.

I just ordered the screen shields only for my 9100. I don't like the shiny appearance that the full shield protector shows in the previous pictures that were posted on here.

I order just the InvSheild for the screens only. I would have to agree with the other posts, putting them on is a NIGHTMARE!!!! I practiced with the internal one first and ended up not using it b/c I couldn't get all the air bubbles out. Every time I peeled it off and tried again there would always be another spot that had a bubble, so I just left it off. The front one was much easier b/c it is smaller and I had practiced with the internal one to know how to work it. So I paid like $15 for one small external screen protector. I would say keep looking for something easier to put on. Also the fact you have to wet it made me uncomfortable putting it on my phone.

That is a "subjective" statement!

IMO, the Maroon colored enV2 is just as professional looking as the black one. I personally didn't get the black one because it looked rather plain to me, and no different than any of the other black phones that Verizon sells. The Maroon colored enV2 stood out from the others when I went is to purchase mine.

When it comes down to the color, it is all a matter of personal preference. Which I would assume was LG's reason for putting out the enV2 in two colors from the start.

i still seem to think lg did 2 colors one for females and one for males. to many girls have the Maroon one. this is coming from a girl a know who works at a Verizon store. She told me she was glad i got the Black b cuz of this, me too! but to each it's own. who am i to say the Maroon color is for gils, i'm just a some what of a normal guy who likes the color black, always have, always will.[B] Definitely think it is more professional. i do have to agree with this, i deal in produce sales and i couldn't see myself pulling out my Maroon phone in front of customers. If u like it, F everyone else.the Maroon looks a little cheap to me, the Black looks cool!! just my opinion.

the picture of the Maroon env still looks pink to me. dont take this the wrong way THKKporter but i wouldn't leave the shield on the phone it makes it look more pink and destroys the cool look of the phone. if you like it go for it !!

i originally bought the maroon over the phone before the release but i swapped it yesterday for the black, free of charge. i like the black more b/c it is more sleek looking

I think I'm going to go for my $$$ back. I love the way the phone looks without it. I thought it was the answer for cell phone protection but the cons aren't worth it. I might have kept it if it was half the cost. $25 is alot to spend for less than stellar results.

Agreed! I have already seen more than one male carrying the Maroon colored enV2, including one of the reps. at the Verizon store. I don't believe for one minute that the Black one was made for the men, and the Maroon one for women. If a man likes the color of the Maroon and that's what he chooses to get, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It all a matter of a persons personal preference when it comes to the color choice. The rep. at the store told me that he has been selling the Maroon enV2 to guys, as well as women.

We need the 9100 dll. So buy lunch for someone that works for Verizon or LG and has access to that.

How did you guys get the DLLs in the past for other phones?

Someone from Verizon or LG stole the dll and leaked it to us.

You can get the cable from ebay, thats what I did they work fine.

I, too, have requested and received my "return authorization number" and will be returning my full-body Invisibleshield today for a full "30-day guarantee" refund. I made my decision to return the product after reading everyone's opinions and pictures people were kind enough to post on this forum. I, personally, never attempted to put the shield on my phone. I will continue to be on the look-out for a better form of protection and in the mean time continue to carry my Env2 in the holster case that I purchased from my Verizon store.
Thanks everybody for sharing your opinions and pics.

Vx9100 or Env2 very nice phone but I think the way they set up the key lock is horrible
If you lean on phone or seat belt rubbers against it you will be dialing someone.
They should change the setting to different buttons on the phone like OK & *(star)
How could LG make it that you press the OK button twice & the lock is off. I guess there just looking for Complains Doesn't make any sense...I might have to return mine because of this.

Posted by: latinojuan

can someone start a petition to change the keylock and other features? and then send it to verizon? i'd like to sign it. i have my new env2, and i think i love it, but we'll see if my phone bill goes up $50 from too many accidental calls...

has anyone had a call dop on there env2?? i had one the other day and one today, when i try and call the person back it says Verizon searching. could it be phone or network b cuz it took awhile for it to connect again. I called verizon and they told me to push # # twice to pinpoint the problem. I also did the *228 first day i got it! any thoughts on this. please help. dont want to go and get another env2, just returned it for blutooth issues.

Posted by: papasin

for all of u who ordered the full body shield just call them and they will refund ur money, u may have to put up a fight like i did. I got them to send me just the screens with 2 day shipping at no charge! I have to send them the full body shield back when i receive the screens. Best part is that i only have to send JUST the film, NO BOX, NO SPRAY OR THE OTHER STUFF. I can send it in an envelope that will only cost me the price of one stamp. give it a shot. I *****ed about the NO instructions and the awful look it gave my phone, so call em up, this shield wasn't cheap. just thought i would let u guys and ladies know this before u do whatever with it. GET UR MONEY BACK!!

Why not use the standard keypad lock. You know, the one you have to put a code in to unlock the keypad?

Menu 9 6 6

Menu 9 6 6 If you do this you have to press ok ok then a 4 digit code then after your phone call you have no choice but to open the phone go back to Menu 9 6 6 enter code - - - - So if you add all the steps it's TEN buttons to do this! ( ok ok Menu 9 6 6 Code - - - - This is a little much just to lock a phone.

Posted by: papasin

do just like copper04 said, menu 9 6 6 enter phone lock code after that then press 4, dont scroll down to phone lock! done! it only takes a second or 2. u get use to it after a few times. I'm trying to memorize the number to get to all setting instead of scrolling. much much faster!

Posted by: papasin

if u dont have a data cable for ur phone u can just use a digital camera to transfer music to my_music folder. Just use the adapter that came with your card and put that in your digital camera, go to my computer and you will see it listed there, double click it and u will see my_music file. this way u can save yourself some money on a data cable. I just tried it and put a few songs on the card and it works, try it out. any problems just post it here and i will check it in the morning.

still up!!adapter for the env2 for listing to music with headphones.........2.5mm is that correct? plug in the 3.5mm. one end 2.5mm the other end is 3.5mm?? not sure. Now that i got some music on it i want to get some use out of it while on break at work.

It may because they are "In Case of Emergency" Contacts, also known as ICE. If you are knocked out, and the police find you, they will go into your phone and dial the ICE contacts. So set them as your spouse/parents, home, or someone else important who would need to be contacted during an emergency.

I agree that it's irritating. I've already gotten used to opening the phone and hitting OK-9-2-8, but I'd be much happier if I could make a shortcut to it.

Just got my env2. Like Humpa said it worked fine with bitpim 1.05 manually set to vx10000. Transferred like 15 ringtones and about 25 pictures by filesystem. Ran into a hitch trying to activate via *228 afterwards tho and had to call customer service, he walked me through entering my info then using *228 again was able to activate.

Only problem was initially plugging in the charger to get the initial battery charge, the phone would show the verizon logo and then say "battery is required" Later after activation the battery indicator in the top right would disappear when I plugged the charger in. This happened on both the internal and external LCD. Weird thing is it charges via usb cable plugged into my computer. CSR said it might be a software issue and or hardware and said my env2 was DOA (dead on arrival) and he could arrange an exchange. All features work on the phone so I will just take it to a Verizon store this weekend. He made a note on my account that I would exchange it.

The rep also made sure I would keep my $5/month unlimited IN and 50 addl text message package that they no longer offer.

Posted by: f38urry

For those of you who choose to SCREAM in capital letters when posting or emailing (a terrible habit), I accidently noticed that if you press the enV² QWERTY keyboard Shift key twice quickly, it remains in Caps Lock mode. I may have missed it, but I didn't notice the feature in the User Guide.

Hey all,

Sorry in advance for the long post. I'm considering the env2 as a replacement for my vx8300. It seems to have the best combo of features I already like on the VX--small, great battery life, good camera, decent browser, and affordable enough when new. The VX has been good and still works fine, but the ring around the camera lens has a ding in it and is fried--pics are blurry. It also drives me a little nutty with the "new text msg" sequence--you have to punch: message-ent (new msg)-ent (txt msg)-add-3 (groups--most of my friends are in groups)-2 (which group)-then scroll down and choose which friends. Then when you select one, the name disappears and you just see the number! Instead of the name plus a cell icon or something which would actually be helpful. I don't know anyone's number by heart! Then you have to press enter when you're done. A minimum of 8 button presses, usually more. There are other ways to originate a text msg but they all involve similar number of presses. Why not one button for "text msg" and then straight to your contacts? Is this any easier/better on the env2?

Also, does the T9 dictionary have a bunch of nonsense words in it like the VX? I.e. if I want to type "ob" (=Ocean Beach, I do this all the time) I have to reject "ma", "na", and "62" first. Is the dictionary editable? The VX will add words you make up, but you can't remove any.

Also, how bad is this pocket dialing issue? I'm not super hard on phones, but it is always in my pocket although I try never to put anything else there. I think the camera got fried on my VX from its being in my pocket and getting crammed against something else (bike? seat belt? carrying something?). I had to disable the music "play" button on the VX as it would always randomly start playing music, usually in a meeting or something. This just from normal pressure of being in a jeans pocket. I like the feature set on the env2, but pocket dials would be a deal breaker for me. Also, is the camera lens protected at all? The one on the VX sticks out just a little, but apparently that was enough.

The VX uses a proprietary verizon browser with no Java. Does the env2 have java and can you use Opera Mini on it?

Finally, I see that this phone can't be used with bitpim yet. Hopefully that will come, but in the meantime is there a way I could transfer my contacts to my PC or microSD and back to the env2 so I don't have to type them all over again?

TIA for all help. This is a great forum.

I don't know about all the other stuff - but the menu's are basically the same on all Verizon phones because of the Verizon UI. So texting is going to be the same on most anyphone.
And the camera lens only has the protection of the glass covering it, which is like nearly every other phone cam.
It sounds like pocket dialing might be an issue for you though - but I've kept mine in my pocket since the day it was available for purchase. It hasn't dialed on me - though I'm 40 something and don't make a lot of sudden movements.

But the reason I'm posting is because of your contacts. Go and install the free Get It Now Backup Assistant. Once you sync that, you'll never lose your contacts again. And any new phone you get can sync right up to Backup Assistant and grab them all. Backup Assistant will say it is $1.99, but there will be no charge and no monthly charge so long as you have a verizonwireless.com My Account login. This info is posted on their website - this is what we all do now. Though sometimes I just use Bluetooth to trasfer contacts.

Posted by: rumpuskity

I have had the phone for a week, and it has dialed in my pocket once. Of course i dont always keep it in my pocket but i can see how this would be a problem with pressure. the keylock "press ok" feature is more an annoyance than protection. Also, i backed up all my numbers via Verizon's Back-Up Assistant (at least i think that was what it's called) and sent all my numbers before I changed over phones. Simple procedure to get them all on my new env2...which I love by the way regardless of the PRESS OK annoyance...

i wonder if there's any way to disable that and instead use a combination keylock sequence?

btw- i find it faster just to use the keyboard rather than scroll through options for words i want so i can't help u there.

This is a great forum.

yippee, I lost all my notes when metal gear solid mobile crashed my phone. Guess I wont be using the notes function anymore.

I got my enV2 today and it has not been activated yet. I don't have the USB cable yet so I've been trying to figure things out with BitPim and Bluetooth. I can download files like music, pictures, and videos to my computer, via BitPim, and I was able to put a couple of mp3s in my My Sounds folder using BlueSoleil 5.0.5.178 using file transfer.

However, when I try to put files on my phone using BitPim, it looks like it's working, until I finally get the "phone is not responding while manipulating files" message.

I've tried designating the phone as either VX8800 or VX10000 as suggested here. My port is COM8 (BT serial port).

I tried installing the VCast Music Manager (with USB driver) and also Humpa's enV2 driver, even though I'm not using USB right now, just in case. No joy. Well, to be fair, I haven't rebooted the computer (XP) since installing either of those two, so I guess that's the next step, but I don't think it would matter.

What should I try?

BitPim doesn't work with the env2 yet. I've heard rumblings and rumors that the developers are working on it though it may be a month or so.

It works on an enV2 before it has been activated.

In your Bluetooth control panel, see what port your 9100 is using for the BT DIAG profile (Serial profile). Make sure that is the port BitPim is set to use. And also connect that DIAG profile from your Bluetooth control panel, if you can. And try the Other CDMA phonetype as well.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. "Connect that DIAG profile..."??

I initiated a BT serial connection - at the time it was COM8, now it's COM10, which I have specified in BitPim. I tried 8800, 10000, and Other CDMA but none of them allow me to send data to the phone. (The phone type and port number are manually set since detection always fails.)

Just after I sent the message I realized how to see the filesystem. Do I just need to drag a file there instead? (/brew/mod/...) Nope, that didn't work, but at least that time I immediately got the error message, so it appears that it did try to connect.

It's not that the phone is not connected, since I can still do a direct file transfer outside of BitPim (into MyPictures, for example). The only 3 folders that I have access to outside of BitPim are MyPictures, MySounds, and MyVideos.

Hi guys. Im new around here. I have a Env 2 phone and all I really want to do is make my own QUALITY ringtones.

I know you can text them to yourself but the only way I know to do this is to use the verizon website. They limit the type of audio to midi, wac, qcp, and arp (I think I got those last 2 right)

I have tryed using wav but the max khz it can be is 22059 (30 seconds 3mb)

Once I send it over to the phone the quality is ***. Just to double check I took the mp3 of the song and put it on my micro sd card and played it on the phone and it sounds GREAT.

I dont have a data cable but I want to get one. Can bitpim let me use mp3s as ringtones on my phone yet or is that something people are still waiting on? Is there ANY other way I can get quality ringtones on my phone without buying them?

Great site BTW!

I subscribed to Verizon's 24-hours-of-WAP-access for $1, and promptly stumbled on what would appear to be another bug.

I wanted to use Google Local to lookup a phone number. And the browser let's you "select" a phone number link and it will automatically dial the number. Pretty handy, really...if it works. The first time I tried this, my phone rebooted. When I tried it a second time, it worked fine.

But then I had to look up another number. So the third time I tried this, Blam, my phone rebooted again! And similarly, the fourth time I tried this it worked again.

I haven't done this anymore to say that the fail/work/fail/work pattern would continue, but I think I can say that if you use this feature you have about a 50% chance of heading for a reboot.

I had this same issue with my first one too. Only mine would reboot while I was in the middle of sending out emails. I ended up swapping it out for a new one. The enV2 that I have now, hasn't rebooted itself once.

TIA for all help. This is a great forum.

hey, i went from the same phone to the env2, the same switch you're considering!
i've had it for 3 days, and i think i love this phone. it's a lot of fun.

i LOVE the camera. i have 2 small kids at home and i love the relatively QUICK shutter time (a LOT faster than the 8300) and how big the pics look on the internal screen. i can actually show someone a picture and it they don't have to squint!

initiating a text message can be super easy cuz i set my internal keypad to start a text message as soon as i start typing! as soon as i press any key on the QWERTY, it starts the message. very handy.

i've only had it dial once on me by accident, but i'm super cautious of it and i immediately took my phone out of my pocket and saw that it was dialing so i ended it. I've gotten it to dial intentionally in my pocket just by pushing on the phone. the keypad's facing my leg, and i'm pushing on the back. it's WAY too easy to accidentally hit the OK key.

i use the "menu-9-6-6-code-4" technique from the internal screen, and that's kinda quick. a little bit of a pain, but i dont' use it all the time. i know what you mean about accidently playing songs. the a-team theme was the 1st on my playlist on my 8300 and it would ALWAYS play by accident.

i *think* the volume on the playback for the env2 is just as loud as the 8300, but you have to have it open to get full volume. i use my phone when jogging, so i don't have to worry about headphones sometimes.

in any case, i think it's a good switch! i'm waiting for bitpim to be activated and for a firmware change for the external locking code to be switched!

let me know if you have any more questions!

I stumbled upon some weirdness today. My phone is plugged in, open and charging right now so I have the desk clock display on the internal screen. When I get a text message, it auto-opens and I hit reply then select Txt Message. Instead of going to my message the desk clock comes back the instant I hit reply. Then I have to press another button, any button before it lets me start typing. Not super annoying, I don't text while plugged in often, but odd nontheless.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know the limit on text messages in the inbox? I am at 247, wondering how long before it is full. Also the sent box stops at 104 then its just replaces older ones as it goes (oddly it does not bump pix msgs, those stay, only old txts get bumped, my samsung a950 did the same thing).

Posted by: SMusser

It can store up to 300 messages in the inbox.

Has anyone had this problem. When trying to send a picture message if I type my sons name for the contact it will not send. It gives the message "Invalid destination" or something like that. If I type the actual phone number in there (exactly the way it is listed in my contacts. I have retyped it several times to make sure I'm doing it the same way) the message will send with no problems. However it does not matter when sending just a plain text message it does not matter if I type the name or type the number the message always sends. It's not a big deal but kind of an aggravation.

I wanted a solution TODAY because I'm getting antsy to activate my phone, and my Bluetooth connection wasn't cutting it in BitPim for some reason. I also tried installing QPST and LGDownload but those sets of utilities would not recognize BT/phone for all but QPST Configuration.

If you don't want to plunk down $19.99 at a VZW store, I can tell you that your local AT&T store may very well have the mini to micro USB adapter. It was $9.99. I may return it once I get my cheaper eBay cable, and this is easier to do since the plastic clamshell packaging doesn't have to be destroyed in order to get to the adapter.

Finally BitPim is recognizing the phone - it came up as Other CDMA first. But I had to switch it to another model to do anything with it; currently trying VX8800. NOW I'm able to send pictures to the phone via drag and drop on the filesystem. I'll feel successful when I get my preferred ringtones on the phone, if that's possible. Has anyone done that on a preactivation enV2 without emailing/texting (which is impossible prior to activation, anyway!)? I also edited the paramtable1.fil using the walkthrough here so that I can get Mobile Web without paying $5 - since I somehow managed to keep AC II and shouldn't have to pay $2/MB.

Posted by: selfnoise

It's funny, they didn't give me any grief at all about keeping AC2 when I was in the store. I guess they must not get pushed very hard to try and switch people.

Posted by: ribex

Awesome, I can now add at least .mid and .mp3 files as ringers via BitPim (preactivation), quick and dirty.

My attempt to add another animated swf wallpaper failed, however. The 3 files in the directory are wine, space, and circles. Circles is like wine but does not show up on the phone even though it came on it! Wine is the default animated internal background/wallpaper that's red with circles and stuff that come and go.

My 3 wants are 1)ringtones, check; 2) backgrounds (fine to use static images but not swf); and 3) to be able to watch tv/movies as 320x240 mp4. Haven't done the last one yet - I converted some files but earlier BitPim told me the files weren't recognized, so maybe I need a different video converter?

I ordered and activated online and was able to keep AC2 also. They obviously aren't really trying to get away from it.

I am using the V cast music manager from verizon and I have had no problems transfering my music via the micro sd card. The micro sd card must be formated in the phone so it will add the needed folders. When I installed the vcast music manager, I let it look for my music. It pulled from Windows media palyer as well as Itunes. All I had to do was drop the songs I wanted in to my music and put the card back into the phone and it works.

Posted by: diab0liK

As has been widely mentioned in this thread as well as elsewhere, t-mobile has mini-micro usb adapters available for 4.99 under the guise of a "razr v9m charging adapter" and it works like a charm.

put your card in a card reader and copy your videos to the my_flix folder, or whatever folder on the card that is used for video

bitpim is 'file system' option is the only way bitpim can be used for video and its SLOW.

you cannot use the drag & drop GUI windows for video, NOT even with other phones
like the V enV or Voyager or venus, no drag & drop in bitpim, no gui window for video transfer

if you don't have a memory card, buy one, there is not enough internal memory for video use, except for a few short music vids or youtube conversions

I had the same thing happen...After you type in the name of the recipient, just press the Arrow Down key to select the name from your contacts and press the OK key. That should do it.

There is always a wait period until the phone is "officially" added to BitPim, but we can usually at least access the filesystem while we wait for an official update to BitPim. And the same is true now - the only difference being that we can only use BitPim before the phone is activated. This is something new, so once someone figures out what has changed, I assume the next new phone will be the same except we'll then know the work-around to get BitPim working with a new activated phone while waiting for the update to BitPim. You know? It is just the natural progression of the world - constant change, no way around it.

Posted by: ribex

Of pictures, videos, music, sounds (what are these for, anyway?), and music defined as ringtones:

Which can be sent through BitPim (filesystem) to the phone once it's activated? Nothing?

And, after the phone is activated, which of those can be put on the micro SD/SDHC card in the AND RECOGNIZED by the phone? (I don't have a card reader yet, but it should arrive in a few days.)

I see that the folders on the card as created by the phone are media (what??), my_flix, my_music, my_pix, and my_sounds.

What about calendar, memo, todo, contacts, sms, call history, T9 editor w/BitPim?

How about games?

Is there anything else I can/should do before I activate it?

----------

Also, when I plug the phone into my computer, I set it to ask whether to sync music or data. I understand syncing music with VCast Music Manager. But is there supposed to be a Verizon data program as well (like Mobile Phone Tools)?

Posted by: selfnoise

Pictures, music (for playing on the MP3 player), videos can all be put on the card from a reader and recognized.

Ringtones can be texted to the phone and recognized, but not put on the card.

I need to purchase a 3.5mm (female) to 2.5mm (male) headphone/set adapter. I don't think I have anything (standard 3.5mm) that has a mic. If I just want to use regular headphones, does it matter if it's a 3- or 4-conductor (whatever they are called) male? I'm coming from a Motorola-only background and I don't know if LG differs.

Make sure your son's cell phone number is set as the default number. Texts will try to go to the default number and if it is a land line you will get that message

Well, I found the answer to my question!

The enV2 demo/tutorials on the LG site are extremely detailed and helpful.

I must not have had the order correct. Plug in the USB cable, choose sync data, then go to USB Mass Storage under settings, tools (menu, 9, 2, 9). Then it shows up under My Computer. I'm guessing the card reader is still a faster option, but until mine comes in the mail, this is quicker than going through BitPim filesystem.

Posted by: piercedtiger

I hit the "music" option on the phone when I plug in the USB and it shows up as mobile phone (no drive letter) in windows explorer. I've just been doing that since my laptop doesn't have a card reader, and I can't get my wife off the desktop long enough to use that one.

Just select the "Music" option on the phone and nothing else. Windows picks it up and uses it. Then again, I have Vcast MM and the LG drivers from Humpa installed so I have no idea if those help or not. I didn't really do much until after those were installed. In fact, I think I was still waiting on the micro USB when I installed those.

no there is NO data program

data mode would be used for programs like BITPIM or QPST, or perhaps as a MODEM

I never use music sync, my phones are set for 'data'

for music i put mp3's on the card, i don't use music sync and WMP

Can't remember if this has been covered here or not (what with 77 pages and all), but is there a way to get video and pics OFF the vx9100? I have it set to save both to external card now, and moved all of them to the card. Unfortunately, Windows only shows "Music" and "Playlists" folders. Nothing for pics or videos.

Thought I remembered seeing more on the internal memory when I connected the phone via USB before my SD card came in so I moved everything back to internal, popped the SD card out, and reconnected the USB cable. Same deal though. Music and Playlists folders, and two .fil files. That's it. Am I going crazy or does something change when you put in the SD card?

Also, wtf is the point of being able to save pics and vids to the memory card if you can't get them off?! Sure, you can send the videos and pics, but then why have an option to save a video longer than what you can send? (Options are "for send" and "for save". "For send" being limited to 30sec or under 300k I believe while "for save" is until the memory card is full.) So you have the option to save far larger than can be sent to another mobile phone, but no way to get it off the phone? WTF? Am I missing something?

For getting flix and pics off of the microSD, you can use USB Mass storage (Settings & Tools > Tools > USB Mass Storage) or you can use Bluetooth OBEX FTP - or you can pull the card out.

I did the USB and micro SD in a card reader options. Both times I could only view 2 folders: "Music" and "playlists".

That's my problem. I can't SEE the folders/files for any pics or flix via USB. Tried putting the card in the reader on my desktop and it couldn't access the card all of a sudden (but I had copied mp3's to it earlier this week). Something about a "device I/O error". I don't remember the exact message. That's why I went back to the USB route. I've checked the phone's memory settings and played the videos so I know they are still there.

So I'm assuming the folders for pics and flix SHOULD show up in windows explorer via USB or card reader?

1) Did you format the micro sd card in the phone when you first put it in there?
2) If not, copy everything off the card to your computer, then put the card in the phone and format it.
3) to access USB Mass Storage, you have to change the setting on the phone to either auto-sync Data or to ask you if you want to sync Music or Data. It's outlined in the LG flash tutorial thingie I posted earlier today, above.
4) if all of the above is obvious to you and your problem goes far past these steps, I apologize in advance. Otherwise, HTH

I formatted the card, but do I need to select "Format" for each option? (ie, pics, flix, and music?) Seems like my wife's samsung a390 had a format option for each file format, and I did all of them not knowing if it was needed or not. Wasn't sure if I needed to do the same thing on this one or not either.

When I do the "data" option for USB mass storage, nothing happens on the computer. Doing the "Music" option shows up like this:

Posted by: piercedtiger

Ok, so I formated the card (again) and did it from all the file options, but still get the same file structure as above.

You will not see all the folders unless you set it to "usb drive" as in "menu->9->2->9" and then leave it that way while you access the memory as if it's a usb thumb drive.

Posted by: piercedtiger

Well, I managed to get the pics and flix off. Bit of a pain in the *** to do it. I copied all the files back to the phone's memory, took the 1gig SD out of my wife's phone, put that in mine, copied the files to that, and put THAT card in my reader. I was able to view all the folders and copy the files of. What a pain! I'm wondering if my built-in card reader has trouble with 4gig cards. I can't remember if I ever used that card in the computer since it came after my usb cable, and I've been able to move files via USB to the phone.

It really irritates me though that the phone doesn't seem to share the other folders over USB.

Maybe you could clarify that. Menu pulls up a list of options without numbers (contacts, recent calls, settings & tools, media center).

Going to tools & settings -> 9 is "memory" which just gets me "1. save options", "2. Phone memory" and "3. card memory". There is no "usb drive" option that I can find. Only "USB autodection" (8), and that has "Sync music" and "sync data" as options. Doing "sync data" doesn't seem to do anything as the computer doesn't read it. It'll show up in device manager as an LG modem, but not in windows explorer so I can access files.

If your card is 4GB, then it should be micro SDHC. Regular SD card readers are unable to read SDHC. (Although I have heard of Franken-cards that are 4GB but not fully SDHC, whatever that means.)
Anyway, it's possible that you need to go buy an inexpensive (<$10) SDHC card reader.

I think he is talking about tools>option 9> usb mass storage maybe?

ah.... yes, that's probably it... It's a 3-4yr old computer with built in 8n1 or something like that. Micro SD wasn't even out yet as far as I know so that could be the problem. The 1gig I got for my wife works fine, but maybe that's not a SDHC? Her's is a Kingston, mine is an AData one (Hell, $20 with shipping for 4gig from Newegge I wasn't complaining! ).

I figured I'd look into a cheap ready. Like maybe a USB key that it'll plug into.

I could see all the files in bitpim, but could save them. Getting bitpim working would solve a lot of issues.

SDHC is 4GB and up, micro, mini, or "regular" SD. (The micro size has nothing to do with it.)

If you haven't changed the order of menu items, the default number for Settings and Tools is 9. The numbers are visible if you have the menu items appearing as a list or a grid but not "tab". So, select the Menu. Then select 9 (Settings). Then 2 (Tools), then 9 (USB Mass Storage).

Is there a glossary of icons for the enV2? We have had some icons displayed on the phone that we don't knwo what they are and the booklets don't explain everything.

One I can remember in particular was a phone with an arrow down the left side pointing to the right? Any help?

Posted by: AGEranger

go to tools and settings>phone info>icon glossary

Posted by: selfnoise

Yes indeed. What you want is the icon glossary:

Menu - 9 - 0 - 3

Posted by: gabe23

Shoot, that was easy. I googled and everything and all the while it was in the palm of my hands. Thanks.

But ok, another question that I am too lazy to search. People talk of hitting menu then numbers to attain a menu page...doesn't work for me. The menu-9-0-3 didn't work for me in other words.

what menu view setting do you have? that first number is only going to work if you have the grid or icon setting (wont work if you're tabbed)

Hi all - I'm new the enV2, and I only change phones about once every 2-3 years, so looking to get a few things done on the enV2 that I did on my previous phones:

1) Has anyone gotten the enV2 to work with BitPim or similar software (I'm looking to sync my contacts with multiple devices, including the env2)?

2) Does anyone know of any resources for freeware applications that can be installed on the enV2?

Cheers!

I had tabbed set. Thanks.

Thanks! That fixed the problem. I had it tabbed, and only saw the USB auto detection option. Figures that I get the USB mass storage working just after I bought a USB SDHC adapter. Oh well, it was only $5 and might be faster anyway.

What are your thoughts on have "location on" or "911 only"? Is there an advantage or disadvantage of one over the other?

Does anyone have an answer about what the "my_sounds" folder is for? I was playing around today trying to get a ringtone to work when I realized you can't set the "my_sounds" files for ANYTHING (ringtone, alerts, etc) unless I'm missing something. So what exactly what are they for besides wasting memory space?

Posted by: jmarshall2569

I have the LG-VX9100 / enV2 and can't seem to get the auto complete to work/offer suggestions while texting. I've gone into Messages, then Settings, then Entry Mode and selected 'word'. I thought that would take care of it, but it after 100+ texts it still isn't offering word choices. I've looked under the other setting/tool categories and can't find another way to change it. ...any suggestions?

That's it ?? That's why we have crap like "Ode to joy", "Train", and "Rainforest" on there? And those are songs, not recordings of a train and rain forest.

Those are samples.

They are actually Midi files.. just something to be on the phone.

its like this on all my VZW UI phones.

MY_SOUNDS folder is used for voice recordings (Get-it-Now -> Music & Tones -> My Sounds -> Record New)... it records in Qualcomm PureVoice files (.QCP). You can also drop Midi files into that folder (via bitpim, or on microSD card).

However, as with other phones, items in MY_SOUNDS can not be used as ring tones.

Just tried that, and it didn't work either. Only shows "Music" and "Playlists" folders. Doesn't show my_pix, my_flix, or my_sounds. So no, it's not the usb mass storage mode.

Thanks. So it's just extra junk I can delete then if I wanted to.

Can someone answer the questions posted in this forum here ? Also, this phone is great. I havent had any calls from my pocket. I have unfortunately dropped it already, it slid on the concrete but the only scratches are not on the screen but where it first hit the ground on the corner. If anyone is thinking of buying this phone, I definitely recommend it.

I called Verizon today and was able to get my $30 price match on 2 VX9100s

Just called and asked for the price match. She checked my records (took a little while) and promptly took $60 off my bill.

Ok. So after about a month with the phone, I still dig it and think it a great phone. However, I finally got a data card and cable and started messing with loading music and movies this last weekend. I'm sure our lists are growing with possible SW updates to the phone but here's a few media quirks I'd personally love fixed.

1. The music player seems like an older one with older functionality. My wife's Chocolate handles music better, especially being able to play while doing other tasks. Why would VZW load an older player and not allow us to do other things while playing tunes? A possible SW fix?

2. The video player would do with a way to pause or bookmark a video and come back to it. I know it's been talked about in different LG/VZW forums, but is there a way to fix this? If you load a 90 min movie and get half way through and want to watch the rest later, you'd have to FF for a while to resume. A possible SW fix?

How do we make suggestions for fixes? Email to LG, or VZW?

you can actually record a caller's voice, or your own audio note to self... then you may send a message to yourself with that attached, and save as ringtone... I have one w/ my girlfriend saying, "What are you doin, hon?" set to go off whenever she calls

As for the people still asking about bitpim... trust me when i say, when it's up and running, you will know, it will be discussed in this forum

It has to be a Micro "B" type USB cable as opposed to a Micro "A" type USB cable to be specific. I hear tell of people buying generic cables and when they get them they plug in ok but data does not transfer so watch out for cheap imitations. I also saw some people transferring data via bluetooth instead of using this cable but you need a bluetooth adapter for your computer to do this.

All that being said where can one pick up a good Micro USB cable at a reasonable price online?

I took back my Voyager and got the EnV2 for both my wife and I. This phone is a great buy as far as I am concerned. It has everything the Voyager does except TV. The touchscreen on the Voyager had some quirks and the scrolling did not work all that well. The thing about a touchscreen is if you are outside in daylight you can't even see the screen to anwer or make a call. And forget doing anything with menus you can't read in the sunlight. It was horrible. I think this phone rocks for the money. The front screen is smaller but gives you all the necessary information. If you need more you just flip open the phone and have a nice large screen to work with. I find the small screen to be not a problem at all. A smaller screen is harder to break and extends the battery life. The batteries on this phone last forever it seems. Standby time is awesome. Its just a good reliable phone that does what most people need. If you want flash get the voyager.....If you want useability get the EnV2 for my money.......

I have had not one issue with the phone making calls on its own when in a pocket or purse as others have had. I am not sure how that could even happen with the locking keyboard. Your pocket or purse would have to hit the keys in a special sequence and within 7 seconds. That would be one talented handbag.... .

Right, I just think it's retarded that VZW would put songs in that folder with the concept in mind that you would use them as ring tones or alerts, but the ONLY way to do way was paying the 50cents for MMS transfers. Or buying a messaging package. I can understand wanting to record something and use that as a ring tone. That's something you have to work around, but when things come from the manufacturer requiring that work around.....

Edit:
Oh, has anyone tried txting a ringtone to a fake number to see if it comes back as undeliverable, gives you the option to save as a ringtone, AND doesn't charge you because it doesn't get through? Like would trying to send to any land line work? Seems like I saw a mention of that on here somewhere, but can't find it now.

Can you set ringtone for text messages to be defferent for people in your contact list with the env2?

I remember that too. Pretty sure that as long as you dial a number that doesn't exist. Why would it matter if the ficticious number is a land line or a cell phone? (it's fake!)

thinkaboutit

I believe the story is: that if you have audio saved to your cell phone, but the phone will not allow you to use it as a ringtone, you can attach it to an outgoing text (which has a fake number). Because the number doesn't exist, the messege is returned to your phone, (in theory) and you can save the attachment as a ringtone.

I don't remember about the "charging you" part.

Posted by: papasin

is there a way to delete ringtones in the ringtones folder. I dont want to delete the ones that came with the phone but the ones i put in there. I sent myself a couple that didnt sound to good, i tweaked them a little bit to make em sound better with a new software i just found, now im seem to be stuck with the ones that sound like ****.

Posted by: papasin

i upgraded to the 8700 when my 2 yrs was up. didnt like it after a couple of months, so verizon let me upgrade again!! and i went with the env2. verizon store printed out the receipt and and i ended up getting another $50.00 rebate. I got one when i upgraded to the 8700, now verizon is giving me ANOTHER one. so if i look at it this way, i never paid for either of the phones, just tax. pretty sweet!!

I was just thinking I could mms my home number (landline) instead of hoping the number I entered wasn't in use, or using something like 555-1234. Wonder if Verizon would catch on to "obviously" fake numbers? At least a land line is a real number and could be explained by a mistake dialing or selecting contacts whereas 555-1234 is known to be unused. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much.

yep you just need to get back up assistant on your old phone... upload your contacts to verizon... get back up assistant on your new phone and download them... i did this when i went from my razr to my env2... worked like a charm.

if you do a search for "backup assistant" you'll probably find better instructions than mine

Posted by: latinojuan

this method doesn't work.
it doesn't give you the option of "save as ringtone" like it does when you send it to yourself for real.

I think you can set different ringtones for text messaging alerts but not for individual people in your contact list.

Goto contacts, select one, edit, choose ringtone. It's set to "default" by default. So changing it to a different tone will play that tone when that person calls.
