Official LG enV2 VX9100 Release Thread

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just to confirm....I too was able to get bitpim working....it was open for a good 5 mins or so before i started writing stuff to the phone, but after one full mp3, i was blocked (even from saving anything from the phone).

This wasn't really what i was interested in doing, but just wanted to check the functionality a bit.

I spoke with humpa about this, but I wonder..

has anyone tried QPST yet, I wonder if maybe better success might not be had with it.

No there is a speaker phone button on the outside it is the clear button. It is not as loud as the inside speaker though.

I figured this out, the answer is... you can't LOL when you are on a call and you flip it opne, it automatically turns the speaker on

well, if you hit the speaker button on your phone, it will revert to non-speakerphone.....and vice versa.

It's not true Abc mode. It only works for the first sentence, then it reverts to abc. This doesn't bother me, but it is probably a bug and it would be nice if it were fixed.

The outside clear button is to record calls, and is not a speaker phone, unless you mentioned the wrong button?

Exactly. The dedicated speaker button next to the right hand CLR button.

as has been posted, you need a micro USB ... most mp3 players and camera's come with a mini USB. So, you can use your mini USB and a mini to micro USB adapter, which TMobile carries for the RAZR2's - it costs $4.99

Thanks Humpa,
I saw that it needed micro usb and I looked up what the micros look like and they looked similar to what I have for the chocolate. I just wanted to make sure.

The chocolate uses the old LG data cable - those are not generic at all - might as well throw that thing away.

Love this phone so far, especially since loading my ringtones over with the LG Download and Bitpim work-around. (Anxious to bring my calendar info over from Outlook...)

Does anyone know what the difference is between these 2:

If you press and hold the zero button on the external keypad, it will report back ""Keyguard Set".

If you enter two zeros in a row, and hold on the second one, it reports back "One-Touch Dial Is Disabled".

Thanks!

I'm not going to bother to try, but I presume......

it's the "one touch speed dial", as in it won't call a speed dial# if you hold it....or maybe it's so that it won't call if you just for instance press 4 and send (usually that would call speed dial 4).

I'm sure it's one of those two, or possibly both

Ooops my bad you are right that records calls!!! LOL

Posted by: Gareee

NP.. it did seem kinda odd to me that there's no speaker phone without opening the phone, but since the speakers are inside anyway, I guess it makes design sense.

I did the same. I bought one for both of the enV2's my wife and I got. They carry a lot of covers for other things too, like iPods, PSP's, GPS units, laptops...just about any portable device you can think of.

That's an easy one. Bring it back. The phone, like all phones, has a one year warranty.

guess thats what ill do then. was just wondering if anyone else had the same problems or not.

I'm not aware of any phone that hasn't had that problem for someone. Though some phones are more prone to random reboots than others - but the env2 is not such a phone.

Posted by: Romanticide07

ok thanks humpa hopefully they wont give me any problems trying to return it.

why would they? If it isn't something you can recreate, you might want to call 611 and plead your case. It'll make it a lot easier if you can get them to notate on your account that you need a replacement. That way they don't have to do anything at the store except give you a new phone.

Posted by: Romanticide07

thats actually what i was going to do. The reason i said that was last time they gave me a hard time. when i got the env they messed me up with it by not giving me the rebate stuff when i had to swap it out one time. but to keep this short ive had alot of bad experience with this store.

Are you speaking about actually shutting off or rebooting? As in all new electronic devices, there will probably be software glitches - the Env2 is probably not immune. My EnV2 has "crashed" several times - once while on a Bluetooth call, once while on a hands-free call and the last time I was looking at AccuWeather radar when its eyes rolled back!. On the phone calls, the person on the other end started sounding "digital" and then the phone rebooted. Of course I lost the call but the phone was fine after that.

Has anyone else experienced this?

l

im talking bout like shutting off all way and sometimes it come back on sometimes it wouldnt. i called verizon they told me like once a day is normal, but 3 or 4 or 6 times like it did yesterday is not normal. so they gave me a new one at the store today.

Does anyone know how I would go about getting games on my phone, I am aware of how to connect to bitpim, and such and have transfered ringtones and other files. I am just unaware of where to obtain such games and which area of the filesystem to put them in. Thanks in advance.

I am also wondering if there is a way to delete the stock ringtones and such from my phone. Would be great if I didn't have to see Ringtone 1-16 or something when I looked through mine.

Posted by: themopedwhiz

except for the flash games howto in this forum

you have to buy games from get it now from verizon

java games that play on other carriers phones, do not play on verizon phones

verizon phones use BREW not java and the system is locked/closed

Posted by: latinojuan

okay....

1. so there IS a way to use bitpim now, right?

2. but it's only for more advanced users and even still, it is kinda shody? (like only have a short time to transfer stuff)

3. can it be used w/ bluetooth, or just the usb transfer right now?

4. we're (as in the users of the env2) close to having bitpim fully fully unlocked, right?

thanks!

1. yes
2. sounds about right
3. Bluetooth = yep (though I first put the phone in NV Edit mode using the USB cable, then unplugged it and used Bluetooth with BitPim)
4. yes again (this week / next week? is my guess)

Posted by: Gareee

Only way I found to add flash games to the env2 here was to replace the tip calculator and the world clock with them.

From some of the advanced posts, it looked like once we have full bitpim access, there might be a way to add additional "tools" in the tool menu, and put flash games there, but that's pure speculation on my part.

I posted in the flash games thread, and ended up putting the blackjack and "frogger" like game on ours.. one arcade style game, and one casual game. solitaire would have been nice, but the cards were FAR too difficult to read, even with the generous env2 inner screen size.

looking forward to hearing when it's "officiallY" out!

Posted by: slamjam0822

And there is no way to delete the stock ring tones?
Or to make the 2min/15 min reminder for text messages something then that annoying beep. When I first receive the message it will use my alert tone, but anytime after it will do what sounds like a low battery beep, very annoying.
As well as making it vibrate more then once for a text message, that would be great...
Any fixes?

how exactly did u do this?

To start your Bitpim session, do as described earlier in the thread:
  1. Start LG Download, and select the VX9100 DLL file.
  2. Click NV Edit, then NV Edit Start buttons.
  3. Once NV Edit window opens, click exit, then exit LG Download.
  4. Start BitPim. Make sure it doesn't search for your phone by default.
  5. (I've had success using the VX10000 setting on BitPim.)
  6. Transfer files until you get the 'locked out' message.
Here's where you'll save some time and hassle:
  • DO NOT REBOOT OR UNPLUG YOUR PHONE.
  • DO NOT CLOSE BITPIM.
  • Follow steps 1-3 above.
  • You can then transfer files (again) until you get blocked.

I've done this 'restart' method several times, all with success. FWIW, I'm using LG Download 1.3.6.3. Also FWIW, my phone seems to be content at COM9 (auto-detected when Windows is running).

I found out that when you get the locked out message you don't have to select the 9100 DLL you just have to open NV Edit, takes away a little part of the hassle wanted to let some of you know. Let me know if it works for you I've had success.

I followed the info in the game thread here.. backed up the world clock and tip calculator tool filess, renamed the games I wanted to replace them to their respective names, and then used bitpim to replace those two files.

Check this thread for details:

Hey, so what seems to be the point of using bitpim. It seems hardly worth doing all this stuff just for contacts and stuff. If u simply go to USB connection in your tools menu, it will connect with your PC and let you drag and drop files directly into various folders, including music, pictures, videos, etc.

Posted by: Gareee

But with bitpim you can change things that you normally can't.. like get free internet, add flash games, ect.

Posted by: Atlasprime

O free internet certainly sounds good. Never realized that one!

O man, i love this phone so much. Jusst put Ratatouille on it hehe

Posted by: Atlasprime

I was gonna get a voyager but it reminded me too much of my clunky vx9800, which i believe was called "The V" lol. I <3 EnV2
However touchscreen tic tac toe sounds uber lol

Posted by: piercedtiger

You can also do custom ring tones with bitpim instead of paying 25 cents/message to send them from a website or email, or 50 cents to send them to yourself from your phone.

I realized I ran up an extra $10 this month (plus taxes) due to doing that with my phone and my wife's. Luckily her sch-a930 has native bitpim support (once the USB cable came for it), and now I can get my enV2 to do the same in a round about way.

Posted by: phd8300

OK, I haven't seen this one before...after you've had the phone for awhile, and you access your text inbox, do you get a message "Inbox Full! Txt 81%" (or whatever) before the inbox actually opens? And how can I disable it?

To disable this, you need to turn on Auto-Erase or delete some messages manually. Auto erase will automatically deleted the oldest messages as the phone runs out of space. I believe you can also lock messages so that they will not be deleted.

To turn on auto-erase, go to the messaging tab, then press the left soft-key, I believe it's either "Settings" or "options". One of the choices there is auto-erase.

disable auto detect in bitpim and set it the lg vx8700?

Posted by: piercedtiger

oh, and you need to shut down NV edit and LG Download once it completes and the phone says "service required" or something similar, and has no cell signal (turned off) before trying to access via bitpim.

Posted by: zach382

Anyone care to give step by step instructions on how to get read/write access the Env2 file system using only bluetooth? I have the dll, lgdownload, and bitpim. I tried doing it from whatever pieces of information I put together from this thread, but it didn't work and I'd like to make sure I don't brick my phone. Thanks to anyone who helps!

Posted by: cpx2

What i did was turned on LG download. Put it in NV Edit mode, closed lg download after it was in NV edit mode. Then used bitpim and put phone as VX-10000 (Even though my phone is the VX-9100 it still works for some reason) . Make sure it doesn't auto-detect as well, and transferred the files from there. But you only get a little while until it gives the "No permissions to access this directory" error and you have to do it again. Hope that helped. I did not figure this out i was searching and found links and what not. I am not the genius who discovered all this, so thanks to whoever found this

Just want to update everyone on our progress with determining the DM scheme used on the VX-9100...

We have been able to enter DM on one VX-9100 without using the Dll . One or two details of how the scheme operates are still unclear but those details appear to be irrelevant (the real test of the completeness of my implementation will be if it works on the Dare or Decoy). Myself and one other person are working on getting VX-9100 support into the next test version of Bitpim (due out Monday). The test version at a minimum will contain the new DM code. I will post here when the new build is up.

Thanks for the Progress!!!

Just replied to the DEV mail list..

I have the Dare on my desk. Using LGD and the VX9100 put the Dare into a mode in which I COULD add tones to an activated Dare via QPST's EFS explorer.

BitPim would not read/display the phone's file system, but QPST can.

Is there a data cable from a different phone that works with the enV2 or is this the first phone with this connector end?

Posted by: piercedtiger

Anything that has a micro USB connector should work. I bought a generic Micro USB cable off newegg and it works fine.

Motorola Razr2 and others use it. TMobile carries the mini to micro USB adapter at their stores for $4.99

Well using the methods outlined in this thread I got read/write access to the file system, so I'm gonna have to say yes.

Posted by: themopedwhiz

yes & NO

you have to use the cable with LGD to put the phone in 'DM' / NV edit mode

this can NOT be done via BT,

after the phone is in MODE, then you can use BT or cable,

why bother to unplug the cable and switch to BT

You can put the phone in NV Edit mode using LGD and Bluetooth.

EDIT: by "you", I mean "you" plural, and not "you" themopedwhiz. Bluetooth doesn't like themopedwhiz, so you may not be able to.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I can't get anything to write to my phone. I'm using LG Download 1.6 to put it into NV mode and then I open the latest version of BitPim after closing everything. I've tried the 8700, the 8800 and the 10000 to try to get access to put ringtones on the phone. BitPim isn't in auto detect by the way. I can see the filesystem, but it wont let me write anything to it (blocked by provider error). Has anybody run into this problem and figured a way around it?

Posted by: piercedtiger

I think I had that problem too, and that's why I downloaded 1.3.6.3. No problems since.

I haven't posted in a LONG time here. I've breezed through this thread a little, but I was wondering. How can I get a new Env2 cheap?

I see their current promotion is $149.99 with a $50 online discount and new two year activation.

I'm due for a new phone on my number. What do I ask for to get this phone cheap?

Posted by: td0t

Thanks for the tip piercedtiger, that did the trick.

I was mailed a protion that was better then the online deal, and also the deals in the local verizon store..maybe call them and ask what the best deal you can get is, if they don't send you mailings with the promotions in them?

Posted by: monoparadox

Just saw the EnV2 at my local Wally World for 48 bucks with 2/year activation.

Posted by: sixbennetts

Cool, good info guys, thanks. I'll call Walmart tomorrow.

I only ask because I saw a few threads in here where people called customer service, and got the phone pretty much for free.

How did they do that?

hey, i'm new to this forum, but not so new to using bitpim with verizon's phones. i have been doing a lot of reading on how to get the env2 to work with bitpim and put ringtones on it. i've had some luck with it after many trials and errors. i downloaded the lgdownload version 1.3.6.3 and put the phone in NV/DM mode...then quickly closed it comletely then hurried and opened the latest version of bitpim, set the phone to vx1000 on com13 (which ever is open for, use it) and hurried and sent ringtones...the phone locks up after a certain amount of time and gives you that error that everyone's come to hate...i'd say about a minute then it locks up..so you may need to reboot your phone, exit bitpim, and open lgdownload again to put it in service mode and redo the steps above..its frustrating if you have a lot to write to your phone but it works none the less...works great too..i've been trying to get it to work for weeks now and i finaly got it...so thanks humpa for the files, and eno, you are all great, and your contributions are amazing and much apreciated. thank you..

I've got a quick question I hope someone can help me with. My wife sent me a video message the other day and when I try to play it on the phone, pressing the "OK" button it just goes to a txt reply menu. I can't figure out a way to get the darn video playing on my phone for the life of me. I'm hoping it's a simple menu fix but I couldn't find anything. I know the video file works because I forwarded it to another phone and it played perfectly. Thanks in advance.

I've seen this too, I think there is a bug in the phone software.

yeah i had the same problem it wouldnt let me play a video file. Hopefully there will be a new firmware version but im not counting on it.

Myself and one other person are working on getting VX-9100 support into the next test version of Bitpim (due out Monday). The test version at a minimum will contain the new DM code. I will post here when the new build is up.

I believe from what I read we will be able to replace the calendar with a more useful flash application when bitpim has a version working with Env2.

Is there a gateway type flash application that will list & run other flash files on your file system allowing you to have multiple flash apps/games on your phone that you can run from there?

Humpa is right about me & BT, it very sledom functions for me, the way it does for him

BUT i was unaware LGD worked via BT, i thought it only worked via cable, consisdering all its functions, I for one, would never want to attemp 'flashing the FW' using BT or doing any critical file transfer that way, LGD reboots the phone at the end of the cycle .

QPST also offline the phone for a write cycle, exclusive acccess, then sends a signal to turn the radio back on .. not something to do via BT in my opinion

maybe its QPST that only works via cable

besides cable is faster than BT

I don't understand this 'aversion' to using a cable, and wanting to use BT, its like

'oooh thats not sanitary, i'm not putting that in my phone'

'oooohh connect my pc to my phone via cable' , 'my PC has been to, too many P2P sites, i don't want to infect my phone'

I believe that LG Download will let you attempt to flash via Bluetooth, which is a bug (I think?) - because flashing via Bluetooth always results in a nice pretty brick.

But for just putting the phone in NV Edit mode, it is fine.

That is incorrect. On feature phones, the calendar is the calendar (meaning, there is no replacing it or installing a flash calendar). I'd suggest using google app's. That way you can always access your calendar - all you need is an internet connection. And I assume there is a nice wap page for viewing your google calendar as well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the calendar cannot be replaced

the world clock and the eztip calculator can be replaced

and NO, there is NO gateway app or menu app to allow for running more swf aplications

i have been trying do that for several months, the swf functions/cmds for this , have not been included or are blocked access to phones system

Oops I meant replace the tip calculator with some sort of gateway program to other flash files on your phone (which on the vx10000 is ezTipType1Main.swf and the link below explains how to replace with a single game) which is a flash application with some sort of gateway app.

Edit - answered one post earlier as I was typing this.

www.bitpim.org
But the test releases are on their sourceforge page (plenty of links to that from bitpim.org) - here's a link for you though. When a new test release is posted, this is where it will be (you can see that the last one was in Mar 2008):

You can still do whatever you want in bitpim after you use LG Download 1.3.6.3 with the DLL to put it in NV edit mode as per the instructions posted a few pages back. Updated bitpim only makes it simpler and faster.

Here's my new question. I just set up the whole free DUN on my VX9100 with LG downloader. It works fine, and now I want to know if I am going to see a $500 bill. I subscribed to the VCAST service that includes unlimited WAP browsing. So should I worry? I'm only going to use it for short times on car trips.

Posted by: Demo716

i returned my env2 a month ago due to drop calls and bluetooth issue's. talk with Verizon today and they said they are having many software issue's with this phone. they are working on a software update as we speak, i noticed this when i had the env2, for some reason the env2 with make data calls by itself, they told me this was the reason for the drop calls. they will not get rid of it because of the high sales, like they did away of the vx8700. hopefully they will have some sort of update, 2 co-workers returned there env2 due to the drop calls, i know they were very upset having to return it for something else. just want to get this out there in case someone is thinking about returning it, hang in there, Verizon is working on updates to fix a few issue's with this phone. it was a nice little phone but i couldn't see keeping it because of the drop calls, i was getting to many. good luck and hang in there.

We aren't supposed to discuss how to get #777 DUN, though I suppose we can discuss the risks?
There is no set rule to follow, other than not doing it at all. But as long as you don't use it enough to throw up any flags you should be all set. What will throw up a flag? We don't know. But I use it when internet goes out at home or at work or anytime I go away for the night or weekend, or maybe even if just at a friend's house - but all told, this isn't much. And some people use it quite a bit without issue.

Just out our curiosity, why is this functionality built in if it's such a problem? Wouldn't it just be easier to able certain phones capable of it, and you need said phone to work with a DUN-enabled/allowed calling plan?

Like if you want Exchange synchronization, buy a smart phone type thing.

It isn't a problem. All phone's have a USB modem, and all Bluetooth phones also have a Bluetooth modem (maybe not all, but over 99%).

Anyone can use #777 DUN, you just need to add that feature - like the $59 BBA plan.
Or, you can use DUN without a special plan, and totally legally. Just use a normal dial-up number. Sure, it is pathetically slow (14.4kbps), but some people do that - so they need their phone to have a modem.

based on what I can see... VX9100 support is progressing nicely.. and should allow for full support of the phone..

Ok, so I could use a dial-up number if I really needed to and just burn minutes? I'm assuming the $59 plan is in addition to whatever calling plan you have? How much faster is it?

Yes, the unlimited $59 plan is in addition to your plan. But EVDO data is fast. If you have a Rev A phone (like the Dare), you can get close to 2mbps download speeds. With just Rev 0, you should get 500-1000kbps?
14.4kbps is all the bandwidth available in a voice channel though - and we're lucky it is that much, because a normal voice call is compressed so they can fit multiple calls in a 14.4k channel (or whatever they call them).

EDIT: but this isn't the place for this. There is plenty of info on things like this in the main Verizon forum.

Does anybody have the time to do a write-up of how to use bitpim to allow us to change our browser homepage?

Is it possible to set it as google?

Will vzw only charge to use the web if you use their homepage?

All web sites are the same - it doesn't affect price or anything like that. The Homepage is irrelevant, and you can use whatever you want.

You can change your WAP Settings right from the Service Menu > WAP Settings (this includes the Homepage - actually, the Homepage is the only thing you want to change).

The procedure is the same as it is for every other LG phone. We've written countless guides on "free WAP". Though it is not really "free", this is what we call it. If on an old ACII plan, then data is by the minute (MOU), with nights and weekends free. On the new Nationwide plans, then data is $1.99/mb so you'd want the $15 VCast so you have unlimited data with no per mb charges.

Here is my normal Copy & Paste for editing the WAP Settings:

Use BitPim and save the OWS/paramtable1.fil. to your pc. Save a copy of the OWS/paramtable1.fil.
Open the paramtable1.fil in a text editor and the hex values start like this in the top left ... the very first row:
30 1E 00 ........
You want to change it to:
30 1E 20 ........
Once you do that, you will be able to edit the proxy settings and Homepage url from the WAP Settings menu on the phone itself.
After you replace the paramtable1.fil and reboot the phone, of course.

While you have the paramtable1.fil open, you will see various url's after all the websession info.

Posted by: Humpa

... and for the complete "spiel" about the paramtable1.fil, and the things it contains, here is my full copy & paste:

These are the default URL's:
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/chat
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/email
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/newsandinfo
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/pixplace
http://myacc.vzwwap.com/selfServe/forms/myacc.jsp
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/addfavorite/
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/search
http://mw2.vzwwap.com/goto

Some of those url's are in the Get It Now menu, and some are in the actual web browser menu.

These are in the Get It Now menu:
Editing the chat url will change where you go when you go to Messages > Chat
Editing the newsandinfo will change where you go when you go to Get It Now > Get News & Info
Editing the pixplace url will change where you go when you go to Get It Now > Get Pix and Flix > Pix Place
The above can also be assigned to the 4-way directional pad as shortcuts - except the News & Info one.
News & Info behaves differently as a shortcut as opposed to navigating there from the Get It Now menu.
If you use Get It Now > News & Info, then your phone is trying to go to the newsandinfo url that is in the paramtable1.fil (or whatever you edit that url to).
If you create a shortcut to News & Info instead, then it goes to the Homepage URL that you set in the WAP Settings.

These are in the web browser menu itself:
Editing the search url will change where you go when you are using the browser and click Menu > Search
Editing the goto url will change where you go when you are using the browser and click Menu > Go To
Editing the addfavorite url will change where you go when you are using the browser and click Menu > Favorites

Yeah, we can only hope for more. Contacts and things are avalable in the filesystem, but it's probably best to just wait for them to tie up the loose ends.

Posted by: JohnDaddyo

can "blt" files be deleted?

Posted by: funnyfarmofdoom

I wouldn't delete any files from the filesystem as it is probably not neccesary.
But speaking of BLT, i think I may make myself one

I'll just pitch 'em in there nice and easy and you hit 'em outta the park!

those are on the card ? right

those are the thumbnails of your videos

if you delete them you won't have a thumbnail pix of the video

the next time you remove insert the card or reboot the phone it will re-create them anyway so its a wast of effort and time to delete them, they are so small , its not wasted memory, with out them the phone would have to read the videos every time you open the menu, to show you the menu pix of the video, it saves time for them to be created once, then saved

So I was just trying out the latest test release of BitPim on my enV2.

I noticed that those default Verizon Wireless wallpapers that come on the phone out-of-the-box don't show up under the "Images" tab under the "Media" tree item in BitPim.

I've been wanting to delete these stupid wallpapers off my phone since I got it. Is there no way to do it if BitPim can't detect them?

Humpa, have you noticed this and do you have any work-a-rounds?

TIA.

I just deleted them using the phone. Go into the media center > Pictures & Videos > My Pictures. From there you can use the options > "Manage my pictures" to mark all the images to delete and then erase them.

I suppose you would like to do it from bitpim, because it might be a bit quicker, but that is how I did it.

You can delete a few of them, using woopah's instructions. The others (the ones that don't show up when you click "Manage My Pics") are in the firmware code somewhere and can't be deleted. This is true of most (all?) Verizon phones.

The latest TEST version of bitpim is on their sourceforge page. Go to www.bitpim.org and click on "download" and then look for the link to sourceforge (says something about "older versions" I think?).

EDIT: and a 4 year HoFo'er should know this.

Just wanted to know... since we're now able to screw with the phone's filesystem... In case I mess up my phone I don't want to lose the apps I paid for... Such as vznav... so which dir/files should I back up so I don't lose that?

Posted by: LakerHorn36

I've been visiting this thread frequently in the last few weeks, and it's been very helpful with regards to using Bitpim with the enV2. I was glad to see that the latest test version had been released today and I downloaded it, but am having some trouble. I apologize for asking what's probably a stupid question, but when I try to get Bitpim to detect my phone, it always fails. I'm sure there's something simple I'm missing, like what port it's looking at or something, but I'm not very well-versed with the program. Can anyone provide any information on how I should go about connecting the phone and getting Bitpim to recognize it? Any help is greatly appreciated! I'm using Mac OS X (Leopard), by the way.

Yea, I tried Woopah's method but they don't show up when I click on "Manage My Pics."

So they must all be in the firmware code then. That kinda sucks. Oh well.

Thanks for the help guys.

The current TEST release only lets you Add or Replace files in the "Ringtones" and "Wallpapers" folders on the phone's internal filesystem. So there really isn't much you can "mess up." Everything else is still locked out until a newer version of BitPim is released that has full access to all the phones features.

So if you want to back up anything you can only back up files in those two folders currently.

Can somebody try this for me please?

##PROGRAM9100 Send and then 000000, (Service menu). Scroll down to Battery test, and turn it on. (This turns all the lights on all the time, to test the battery). Exit back to home screen.

Now plug it in to charge. When it reaches full charge, leave the charging cord attached. Do all the lights stay on, or does the main screen dim?

Thanks.

Now plug it in to charge. When it reaches full charge, leave the charging cord attached. Do all the lights stay on, or does the main screen dim?

Thanks.
just curious as to why we'd want to do that and what it signifies?

The idea of a battery test to test the battery with the phone unplugged, so I don't get what difference it makes whether the phone dims or not when it reaches full charge with the charger still plugged in and battery test mode enabled. You need to unplug it from the charger to test the battery.

Gladly answered.

I drive at night for a living. I use a holster belt clip to make a dash mount, and mount my phone to my dash, with the power cord plugged in.

When it's finished charging, I just leave it there, (listen to music via Bluetooth paired to my Sony MEX BT5000 HU, answer calls handsfree through the HU, etc).

With my current VX8600, when it reaches full charge in Battery test mode, the main screen goes dim, requiring me to unplug the charge cord to have a brightly lit main screen during the day. My son's Env stays bright in this scenario. I have an Env2 on the way tomorrow to replace my 8600, and want to know what it does when charge is complete, in battery test mode, when it's left on the charger.

Now that makes sense! Thanks.
... though I don't know the answer. I'll try it tonight when I get home if you want - if no one else chimes in, and if I remember.

Appreciated!

It's really easy to make a good quality custom dash mount.

You need a standard dash mount, (black clamping holder, the kind that don't really work with any phone because the cushions press the side buttons),

and a plastic belt clip that would hold your phone in the face-out position.

The dash mount usually comes with some sort of swivel assembly that goes behind the clamp holder thingy. Just Dremel off whatever is on the back of the belt holster, and bolt it to the swivel.

These are of course general instructions, but it makes a REALLY secure dash mount.

Oh, and use 3M brand heavy white plastic velcro to mount it to the dash, so no screws or holes needed, and it's WAY strong enough for the weight of a phone and charge cord.

You could even use the 3M velcro to mount the belt clip to the swivel mount, it's that tough.

I didn't see a battery test in the program9100 hidden menu, but it is in the ##lgservicemenu. I'm charging now, and the screen is bright so far. (Will re-post when fully charged.)

You may be able to get what you want without the battery test. If you go into the display settings (Menu -> Settings & Tools -> Display Settings), there is a backlight option that allows you to set the internal display to always on. Maybe that will do what you need. Also, I don't recall the default setting for the Charging Screen, but you'll want to have it off, as opposed to 'desk clock' 'slide show' or 'calendar'...

I see no battery test either

On my sons Env, it's ##PROGRAM9900, 000000, option 11 is Battery Test, option 1 is Backlight setting.

What this does is turn on all the lights, all the time. Can the keyboard and main screen be turned on all the time from the regular menu?

I don't think you deleted it. Is it a file that just like automatically disappeared? Cuz that happened to me and nothings wrong with my phone, actually when I reconnected to bitpim the file was back. Hope that helps.

So not to be like a broken record in this thread...but...
What is the inhibition to getting calender access to work via bitpim on the 9100?

I tried to workaround using the 10000 and the 9900 profiles to no avail.

Still the same locked by provider message.

Looked @ the schedule.dat in hex. Is it just a matter of conversion of this or is it an auth. issue with the phone it's self?

Seems like it would be the locked by provider issue. Is this an encryption scheme? Why on earth would you create a device as such. I see no clear advantage even from the provider side. Is there 1st party LG software that allows calender access.....3rd party maybe? This would be the only logical reason I can think of.....

Oddly enough, I went back into the ##LGSERVICEMENU [send] (with the 000000 service code) and found battery test as menu option # 9. I have my phone on the charger now, and it hasn't dimmed yet, as far as I've noticed (but I haven't exactly been staring at it.. )

I'll post later once it's done charging (or in the morning, if I turn in before it's done).

It actually has the same options as wmp. Genre, artist, name, etc. You can even import playlist from wmp too.

Not sure why I didn't look there ... lazy, I guess.

Mine was at 3 bars, so I just put it on the charger (and in battery test mode). We'll see in 45 minutes or so.

If no-one answered this yet...

I did as suggested and walked around the house for a bit. Got myself a tasty beverage and came back to the phone still plugged into the ac charger....
this took about 10 minutes.....

The main screen light IS still on. So I'm thinking this might work for you. Unless there is a difference in the dc power adapter in a vehicle...

Appreciated, but what I'm trying to find out is what it does when it's done charging. When it's finished, before you unplug it, see if both the keyboard and main screen light stays on, please.

Power shouldn't matter.

Thanks!

Ahh I see. Well I tried it again with 3/4 of a full charge. Using ##LGSERVICEMENU and the battery option....It still shows that it is charging......ie the battery indicator on the internal screen is still animated.

However it's been on the charger for over an hour and should have fully charged by now. I'm thinking that as long as the main screen is on or the 9100 is open that the backlight never cuts off. And you never reach a "full charge" as you might see if the phone was closed.

Hope that helps...

McK

P.S. I closed the phone and the outer screen now reads charge complete....

Posted by: Fisamo

I left it on the charger overnight, and the screen was bright when I looked at it this morning, but the battery-charging indicator was still animated. As soon as I turned the phone off (was going to reboot to take out of battery test), it said 'charge complete'. I expect that this is the behavior you'll see--it will never indicate that the battery is full, and the screen will stay on.

Humpa--Don't feel badly about missing it in the servicemenu--I even looked there and missed it at first!

When I went to bed, my 9100's battery charging indicator was still animated as well, though it had to have been done charging. It was still on bright. I turned it off though.

I charged my phone until the indicator showed the battery was full, then put it into Battery Test mode. The back light and keys stay lit and the battery level indicator remains animated, as if it's still charging even though I know the battery is full.

Looks like this will do the trick!

does that mean if i select on albums and play a certain album it'll be in tracklisting order? cuz on my old chocolate when i played individual albums it would be in alphabetical order and not tracklisting order.

My env2 just went nuts today. Reboots after being on for about 10 seconds. To get it to turn back on you have to disconnect the battery. Not much time to type in a code to check anything...

I'm guessing it's going back to verizon.....

I don't have any full albums on my env2 (I have a randomly selected playlist of 5 star songs), but I checked a couple of albums which have more than one song and they do seem to sort themselves in tracklist order. I know that doesn't answer your question completely but I hope it helps.

this phone reads id3 v2.4 tags... so get an id3 editor and number the tracks... I've got a dozen or so albums so far

On another note.. why is it when I try to access mobile web from Menu 5 4 I get internal server error # 500

but when I assign it to a shortcut key it goes through?

Menu 5 4 uses the "newsandinfo" url from the parabtable1.fil and the shortcut uses the Homepage value that is in the Service Menu > WAP Settings.

Have you edited your paramtable1.fil?

It should read ID3 v2.3, too, since that's all I've used on all of my music and the phone reads it just fine. I use a program called MP3Tag that makes retagging really easy. You can get the latest version here:

http://www.anytag.de/download/mp3tagv241setup.exe

To quickly add track #'s, highlight the tracks and hit Ctrl+K on your keyboard. If, for example, you have highlighted an album with 12 tracks, it's set to automatically add track numbers, in order, 1 through 12. There are a ton of other useful things you can do with it, too.

I was also able to figure out that when you copy music files over to the phone, it will truncate the file length to 38 characters (including the file extension - .mp3) and remove what it considers special characters, so I wrote a script inside of MP3Tag what will do all of that for me automatically. I run this script on the files after I copy them to my Micro SD card, so I never run a risk of affecting the original files.

You do NOT want to use bitpim to put music on... its way too slow...

Bitpim uses "Modem like" commands, so it is very limited in speed.

Your phone should have a Music Sync option to sync with Windows Media Player... that will take advantage of full USB speeds...

Posted by: toodamfast

Trust me, I understand how slow BT is. I just want to put one or two songs on my phone. I do not have a memory card, nor do I have a micro usb cable. I just want to know where the phone stores the music files.

Edit. I can't find "windows media player" on my ubuntu install

Posted by: diab0liK

I've actually found that wmp is pretty slow also...I guess if you want to use the sync feature regularly that's cool and all....

I just write to the my_music folder on the card and have had the best success....it takes a minute to read the mp3's the first time after adding, but it seems faster than the slow wmp sync.

Agreed. I used windows, but I still avoid WMP like the plague. It's never been able to sync to any mp3 player I've ever had that was supposed to sync with it. Drag n drop/copy-paste in explorer is so much easier, faster, and just plain WORKS. Haven't tried connecting to a linux box to see if the USB Mass Storage mode works or not. Didn't seem to work on my bench system without the drivers which I thought was weird.

If you haven't edited your paramtable1.fil yet, then there is an error somewhere. Or maybe Verizon's page was down briefly?
Do you still get the error? If so, go to Service Menu > WAP Settings > Reset Browser (the Reset Browser is somewhere in the Service Menu)

Posted by: Fisamo

I've gotten the same thing when I've attempted to use Verizon's "go to URL" or "News" pages (or even "My Account") when using my own WAP proxy. If I had to guess, Detacht has already edited the paramtable1.fil to allow the proxy to be changed (or has used lg download to change the proxy) but did not change the other URLs. (I've made my proxy field writeable, but haven't changed those URLs myself--will probably do so soon, though.)

You'll have to be more specific. But the phone should be about 100% functional on WAP site (seeing as it is a WAP brower) - but you can also view normal webpages. But depending on how the site was written, it may or may not even display on the phone, nevermind work.

Try some wap sites, like the ones here: http://wap.humpa.com/Humpa

Posted by: ZiLT

Thanks Humpa, I knew you would reply. Thanks for the link for the WAp sites. I guess thats the limitation is that the sites are not wap. Like if I go to ebay.com, you can't use half your links when you log in, or ups.com to track a package.

Ohh.. doc.google.com/m awesome, just what I was looking for for docs and spreadsheets to have with me....

don't use a public proxy. Sign up with Zaksenterprizes.com or hopke.net ... Zaks is free and hopke is $1/month. I'd recommend both. Might as well, especially since one is free.

I still need to post all my settings, and see why I don't have I working yet on my env2.

While there's plenty of info out there, there isn't a idiot's guide to setting it up, and replacing of finding useful substitutes for the shortcuts on the env2..

Like a shortcut for chat, ect. It's great to say "any webpage" but actually finding useful links for a cell phone user would be nice.

(Like mapquest, yahoo maps, or a cellphone equivalent, that sort of thing.)

Plus, once yo uset your new homepage, what function on the phone do you actually use to access it?

Using BitPim, music files are stored the following directory on my phone, and should hopefully be similar for you:

brew\mod\10889

The 10889 folder happens to be the parent folder for the ringtones folder, as well.

Hope this helps.

If you can't get to a store right away, ALWAYS call Customer Service and document the problem. They will make a note on your account which will be flagged for the folks at your local store. This way, it's documented early.

Very, very nice!! This newest version of BitPim allowed me to easily "import" my Outlook Calendar, "add" it to Bitpim, and then "send the data" to the phone. I now have my complete Outlook calendar on my phone, which makes me pleased as can be!

That adapter cable works fine for me.
1. Try reinstalling the env2 drivers.
2. Try a different usb port
3. try a different mini USB cable

BitPim is the same as always for me - I see no difference in getting it to work with my 9100 or 9700 as opposed to my 8500.

As for Mac's, I have no idea, but it should be the same as you've always done it as well. I thought Mac's didn't need drivers, or that the drivers were on the Mac already?

Posted by: KathLePirate

I thought you didn't need drivers either...It was pretty much plug and play with bitpim and the chocolate.
I tried another cable and both USB ports and still, it doesn't work. Although, if I unplug it, my computer scolds me for unplugging a USB device while an application was running. I'm getting quite frustrated :-/

I tried another cable and both USB ports and still, it doesn't work. Although, if I unplug it, my computer scolds me for unplugging a USB device while an application was running. I'm getting quite frustrated :-/
Any respectable phone hacker needs to use a windows box.

Didn't you see National Treasure 2? They cloned that Moto RAZR in like, 10 seconds, hacked into the security system at Buckingham Palace...all using Macs!!

And it's a movie, so it's GOT to be real!!!

First off, I must say that I am very pleased with this phone and the improvements made both hardware and firmware wise. This is indeed an amazing upgrade from my VX8100. I never really felt the need to upgrade until I saw this phone in the store because until now, just about every other phone including the original enV, functioned almost exactly the same.

The only thing I am concerned about is when I type a note in the Notepad, after a sentence or two, a slight lag develops which worsens as the message gets longer. This doesn't happen when writing a text message. Does anyone else have this problem?

My son has a new Env2 and says when tapping a text and the phone rings, his text is wipped out. He tried to set the phone to not answer but the only choices he has are anwer by opening the phone (already opened to type) and answer by hitting any key (he's typing!).

Any tips I can pass along?

Turn off answer when any key is pressed.

So are people getting software updates yet or no? I just called my store and said there isn't one... Am I missing something?

That's what I told him but he claims he has only 2 options, open clamshell & press any key. My Orange Env has press send as an option.

Since you replied, I assume you have an Env2, so please tell me what the options really are.
