Battery Life issues

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I missed answers to my questions elsewhere.
I got the Pantech Duo almost 1 month ago and although in general I love the phone I've been having some problems that I can't find answers to online.
1. My main issue is battery life. I've seen a lot of complaints about this, but the source of my problem is a little different. If I leave the phone sitting on my desk where no buttons can get pressed, the battery lasts 24-48 hours which is fine with me. However, whenever I put it in my purse or backpack buttons seem to get pressed somehow and it dies within 2 hours. One day I had to recharge it 3 times. The button lock feature does no good because the backlight comes on everytime a button is pressed (I've programmed the key pad lights to stay off during the daytime). If I turn off the backlight I will have to turn it back on everytime I use the phone since you can't see anything without it on. Has anyone had a similar problem, and how did you overcome it?
2. Also I have problems connecting to the internet. When I search or try going to an address the screen just becomes white sometimes and doesn't load. If I turn the phone off then on it fixes the problem, but it's kinda annoying. Does anyone else have that problem?
3. Lastly, what does the recent Pantech update fix/address? The Pantech website doesn't really say. I read that it's a radio update, but I don't have any call quality problems. Is there any other reason to do the update?
Sorry to be so wordy, but any help would be greatly appreciated!
