Hello HF People,
I've been messing with some Windows CE standalone GPS units lately and realized I can get so much more than just a dumb mapping software out of them.
This led me into thinking of combining everything into a phone.
I would like to know which phone to buy based on the hardware that I need:- GSM that works with T-Mobile in the U.S.
- WiFi 802.11 b/g
- Display resolution of 320x240 pixels
- Touchscreen
- SD Memory Support (Regular, Mini, Micro OK) up to 4GB
- Bluetooth w/ A2DP (Streaming stereo audio)
- IrDA
- GPS (SiRF Star III chip)
- USB connectivity
- Processor of 400MHz or better
- Windows Mobile v5 or better
The following list is of optional stuff that would be nice to have:- GSM that also works with Orange in Europe
- WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n
- 640x480 pixels
- GPRS & EDGE
- UMA for Hotspot @ Home (possibly hack the WiFi?)
- Ability to upgrade to Android
So far, I've only found ETEN X800 to come close to the desired specs.
Is there anything else?

The X800 or HTC TyTN II would be good options.

the Kaiser lacks IRDA, but other than it's a great device that matches all of your other specs.

even though you say you want WM, i'll add my classic n95-4 recommendation. its an all in one device. 5 mega pix camera with auto focus, 30 FPS video record, true GPS, high speed 3G (for ATT network sorry), tons of apps, etc. its just not touch screen. i have garmin running on mine, check my sig for videos to see, it looks just like the stand alone garmin unit, same voice, menu, options, etc. for me this phone is everything in one, it does it all, literally. its just missing the touch screen that you need. it even has the IR port and an app cn be installed to program any TV, VCR, DVD player and use the phone as a remote control.

Wirelessly posted (HTC Wizard: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) PPC; 240x320; HTC_P3600i/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)
Roger, do you ever not recommend the N95?

I would go for the AT&T 8925 aka HTC TyTN II aka Kaiser unless you really need IrDA. You could easily find one for a decent price and unlock/unbrand it yourself.

Ha ha i do recommend it a lot. Just giving my input.
