Saving Text Messages

Hey....Quick question for everyone here...
I have a Motorola V3m (through verizon), and it is realllly sluggish right now....It takes 3-4 seconds to open a menu or text message
I'm pretty sure that the culprit of it is the fact that i have 500+ inbox messages and 400+ outbox messages.......However, I do not want to just delete them all, as some are quite important to me, but I do not want to have to go through every text to lock it.
My question - Is there any way to back-up text messages to the computer? I would like to be able to transfer the messages, and then clear them off of my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
