BJ II "403 forbidden" No Medianet/No MMS RCV

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: nscali

I have spoken with a lot of people that are getting 403 forbidden issues while trying to browse Medianet, and are unable to Receive MMS messages while this is going on. I have checked and double checked the settings in these phones and they all seem correct.

Does anyone know what may be wrong? Is it a software issue? I have spoken to tech support about it and they claim it is not a known issue, and turn to replacing the phone each time. However I know a few people that have had their Blackjack II's replaced twice already and still have the same issue. It is a shame that such an awesome device has to be flawed by what is probably just a software glitch.

Has anyone else seen or heard of this issue and if so is there a simple solution?

What data plans are they/you using with the Blackjack II?

I have seen this issue with the PDA connect plan, and messaging plans with medianet pay per use.

hello,

I have my BJ2 for about 5 days now and every other day, i get the "403 forbidden" error when using internet explorer. I have to have internet explorer to point to the wap network in order for it to browse the att intranet such at media net and CV. When i set it back the origninal "the internet" it has never worked. The only way for me to fix this problem is to reboot the phone. im use to leaving my phone on 24/7. It has happened 4 times within the last 5 days. Does anybody else have this problem? im getting sick and tired of this crap.....

is the palm centro any good? does it sync up with exchange servers and gmail?

Same error here. I was also getting intermittent e-mail connections and issues with downloads. You need to go to Settings > Connections > GPRS > AT&T IMS change it to Connects to: The Internet and change the access point to wap.cingular . Also you could just delete the AT&T IMS connection and it will work. The problem is the phone tries to connect in alphabetical order from the list of connections and that connection is flawed.

If your settings are correct, the easiest fix I have found is going into the
wireless manager (by tapping the on/off button, or any other key shortcut) and turning off the phone connection and then turn it back on. That should fix the problem. Before I found this method, I was having to soft reset the
phone, what a pain!!

thanks for the quick fix info Martyhog,

...i've been running into this issue myself over the past month or so.

i've had my phone for about 2 or 3 months (i think?)
but this error message has only been happening recently...

hopefully it will be fixed soon, or ATT will acknowledge, and do something
about it...

Yes, this happens but an easy fix I have found is going into the
wireless manager (by tapping the on/off button, or any other key shortcut) click Menu and "Disconnect Cellular Data", then Done. Always clears it up for me.

Cut and paste working well for ya I see.

AT&T confirmed to me via the North Plains sales rep that this is a known problem with the i617 and they are waiting on a fix from Samsung but offering customers nothing for their troubles. I would demand a new phone or credit compensation for AT&T not providing the service that you contracted for. Worked for me.

dispatch00,
what were they willing to do for you?

i get this error pretty much daily,
i guess i'll have to call and hopefully get someone in cust svc who
is willing to help.

thx

Yeah this forbidden error is a huge problem for me. I can't view certain emails, sometimes I can't send picture texts (I think it is connected to the same problem), and of course I can't view websites on IE. I get the message daily and it has really become time consuming to restart my phone all the time.

I'm calling AT&T tonight to see what they can do for me...

I like the blackjack II and really don't want to change my phone as I have it dialed in exactly where I want it, but if this problem can't be fixed I guess I'll have to look into a blackberry or the Q9.

I have been getting the 403 Forebiden error but only
when opening the default ATT MediaNet web site via IE.
Other sites open fine. I push my Hotmail to my phone and have no problems
concurrent with the 403 error.
I simply changed the default home page to something other that MediaNet
(i.e no longer http://home, but espn.com).
Done by app unlocking the phone, installing PHM Registry Editor,
and editting the appropriate URL.
Go to myblackjack2.com for instruction under registry hacks.

This issue is a known thing with Windows Mobile phones. It was supposed to be "fixed" in Windows Mobile 6, but that's not true. The easiest thing to do is go into the Wireless Manager and disconnect the data service. You don't have to turn the phone portion off and on like another guy on here said.

so this is the case even with the moto q? going into the wireless manager 2-4 times a day still isn't going to work for me. i just don't have the time to be doing that. i should not have to do that in order to get my internet to work. i guess ill be bagging windows mobile phones if the problem can't get resolved.

Are there any issues with the medianet proxy? I get 403 forbidden in pocket ie if I try to bring up the medianet home page or anything for that matter...

Posted by: kirk1233

Nevermind... My new device (BJ2) has an issue where this pops up every now and then appearently. I just had to turn off the wireless radio and then turn back on...

I agree, you shouldn't have to do that, but I didn't make the phone or OS, I'm just telling you how to fix the issue.

Joe

P.S. Had this problem on an AT&T Tilt too, so like I said in my first post, this isn't a phone issue.

We have over a dozen WM phones in our office. 5, 6, PPC, Smartphone. Samsung, HTC, Motorola. T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, ATT.

The ONLY phone with the 403 problem is the BJII on ATT.
