Have an 8525, should I get an 8925?

I just grabbed a used 8525 and like it alot. Someone local has an 8925 for $320 and I'm really considering dumping the 8525 and just buying the Tilt instead.

From what I'm reading, it's only a hair thinner (3mm to be exact), and other than the tilting screen and A-GPS, isn't much different. Same CPU, same screen, etc. The new button layout looks nice, and the keyboard revisions are cool too. It is a bit heavier though....

Is the Tilt really worth the switch, or should I just hold onto my 8525 for now?

Well the 8525 is only HSPDA 1.8 while the 8925/Tilt is HSPDA 3.6.

You may notice the faster browsing speed as I do when I use my Blackjack I which is HSPDA 1.8 and my Blackjack II which is HSPDA 3.6.

All the speed tests I've run show I can't pull any faster than 800-900kbps even while in big metropolitan areas (I work in downtown Chicago). My coworker's Q9H gets identical speeds.

Personally, I'd just stay with the 8525. At least until I could find the Tilt cheaper than what they have it for now or at a reasonable price that I could spend.

That's why I got the Blackjack II, as I found it at a reasonable price that I could buy it for.

Sounds like it's time to tweak

Care to explain? 800kbps is faster than I know what to do with -- I can run full-screen YouTube through 3G with next to no buffering.

If you're happy with it, no need to tweak Certainly for generally browsing and "youtubing" it is more than sufficient.

You can't taunt me with something like that, lol....I love tweaking and modding.

Still doesn't answer my question -- is the 8925 really THAT much better than the 8525? Will I even notice the extra memory?

The main difference between the two, as I'm sure you already know, is the GPS, memory, and tilting screen. They also incorporate different processors, albeit at the same clock speed. IMHO, if you don't think you will utilize the GPS, or don't think the GPS is worth dropping the cash, stick with the 8525. I moved from an 8125 to the Tilt, and that was well worth it. I honestly don't think I would have jumped to a Tilt if I had the 8525 though. To me, it wouldn't have been a practical upgrade (I'm a tight *** anyway )

Ehh, I don't know if the GPS is THAT important to me. It's rare that I'm out somewhere with zero clue where I'm at, and the Google Maps "My Location" seems to be sufficient for now.

I'm sorta holding out for the 2nd-gen iPhone, so I think I can survive with this "lowly 8525" until then. :-)

Thanks for the info, and if you'd care to share the HSDPA tweaking I would be very grateful.

there are some programs, such as HTweakC that you can useto make some registry changes for you, or just search around for generic WM5/6 registry edits to tweak the TCP/IP setting, max connections, etc. The program will also make allow you to enable/disable HSDPA. I dunno about the 8525, but I know on the Tilt, full blown HSDPA is disabled in the registry. It requires a tweak to enable it.
