BLACK Motorola RAZR2 V9 for AT&T is coming...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: IronCross

The V9 is not forgotten...

However, it does explain the End of Life status on the disgustingly-colored Red/Pink-backlit V9.

It should be on its way the second half of this year. It's most likely gonna have GPS (AT&T Navigator) as well as the Synergy OS. The colors are similar, if not exactly the same as the Black Rogers V9 that is currently sold in Canada. This rumor was reported earlier this year, and I've got a reliable source that has confirmed this for me.

No word on price as of yet.

You are the man!!!!

Thanks for bringing this news. Can't wait!!!

Posted by: Wide_opeN

A link would be nice or some other form of confirmation.

Posted by: MyPyle

well we all knew it was coming its just a matter of time.

Posted by: sithjedi333

IronCross,

Do you have any sense if we're talking 3rd quarter or 4th quarter of 2008?

Thanks!

Please be third quarter!

Posted by: MCKINNIE

Cool, might get one yet. I'm gonna be driving soon (October) and I know if I cannot even hear my iPhone in my own house, I won't be able to hear it in my car. Perfect excuse to get the crystal talk v9.

Unfortunately, there is no link I can give right now. However, I can tell you I'm a COR rep with friends in places that know things.

I asked that exact same question and my source said AT&T and Motorola are still working things out as to which quarter it'll be released. However, their target is before the end of the year, and HOPEFULLY somewhere around September. I can tell you now the phone is already well into its testing phases.

Posted by: DukeL

Finally! The Razr3 V10 will probably be out by the time these at&t jokers get their act together, I personally had to pay extra to get the euro version in black I was so sick of waiting.

Posted by: DukeL

Would definitely of course love to have 3G though since the unlocked versions run on 2100.

Posted by: macizcool

I have a feeling it's going to cost 1.5 times the current V9 because it's in a new color.

Posted by: bostonirishguy

A day late and a dollar short. It'll be old news by the time it hits the street, unfortunately. AT&T should have skipped the wine and went with the black.

Posted by: jpmkam

Better late than never.

Posted by: steine1988

One would assume that since it's taken at&t about a thousand years to test it and release it that they are working on getting the external LCD controls to work like they do on the Euro/HK version. Otherwise, if it's taking them this long just to launch the same phone in a different color, then I guess their bureaucratic process is worse than the government's.

PS: In case anyone who has any say in what the final product will look like is reading this, how about getting rid of that shiny chrome hinge and replacing it with a nice black metal hinge?

Thanks, Moto.

I believe external controls, reading text messages, etc. are on the list of items to add to the Black V9.

I concur.
If that happened I would definitely choose it over the Z9, even though I like sliders better.

Posted by: blackengaard

Hmm.
So my friend was looking at new phones since she has a crappy free LG phone, and she told me when she went instore to look at phones she saw the RAZR2 in, and I quote, "...Yeah I saw it in black and in your color, and then a purpley-ish color."

I don't think she's right...Because the mahogany is kind of a purpley-ish color.
Just putting that out there.

But to corporate stores already have black V9s on hand?

Either that or she was mistaken.

I would have to say she is either mistaken, or is just messing with you. Love to be proved wrong though.

I would think she was mistaken.
She's not the exactly the sharpest tack in the drawer.

She might've seen the V3xx's, though I'm not sure.

This is one time where I encourage AT&T to milk out every color of the RAZR2 there is.

=/

She is mistaken...

The Black V9's aren't out yet so it's impossible for her to have seen one. The only ones in existence are engineering-test phones in the hands of Motorola reps, and AT&T phone testers. No ifs ands or buts on that one.

Posted by: steine1988

Is there a chance that Motorola would sell an unbranded version of the black one through the Moto store like they did with the V3xx? I mean there's no exclusivity agreement between Moto and at&t that prevents them from doing so, even now, is there?

That's a good point...
But I'm not sure they would do it.
Isn't the unbranded V3xx the Euro or HK version?
I'm not exactly sure, but when I was at the Motostore I only saw branded phones.
You could buy the with service or off-contract, but they specified "Gray RAZR V3xx for -insert carrier name-"

But idk for sure.

As of this week, when I checked the Moto store, they only had at&t branded V3xx, but three weeks ago when I was entertaining buying one from the store, they listed three phones, one of them was unbranded. It then went out of stock and was listed as unavailable, and now it's completely off the store's website.

I paid a visit to my local AT&T corporate store today in Philly and the sales rep. said he saw a Black and Blueish color Razr2 in a training session last week. He believes it will be out in June or July.

He didn't know if there were any extra controls available on the front screen besides music playing.

Posted by: steine1988

If he saw a bluish one it could very well be the V8. T-Mobile has a bluish V8.

These sightings of black and blueish color RAZR2 V9s is making me more anxious to as a release date.

Posted by: davistld01

Having had an unlocked/unbranded HK-variant V9 in the Graphite (black) color...I can attest that it is a very sexy phone...and I'll probably pick one up if/when it hits AT&T. I am totally sure that the color change will be the thing that sparks huge sales for the Razr2 V9...that, and hopefully a price reduction.

But, having just picked up a nice Mahogany one again...I'm kinda liking that "unique" color more than I ever did before...

Any update, guys?

Thx

Posted by: vbp6us

That is a nice looking phone!

Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D062; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320)

no new news. sigh.

Any updates? I will be signing with AT&T in July as my carrier was sold to them and have always like Motos.

Posted by: shoman94

It was approved 2 days ago... here are pics on FCC's website: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/...tive_or_pdf=pdf

Going through the user manual it shows the addition in function with the outer touch screens....BUT.... it's also showing the generic V9 also....

Hmmm. Nice pictures but they look exactly like my Euro V9. The at&t version should be at&t branded and have a CV button on the keypad. Are you sure these pictures are associated with the V9 that was just approved?

Yes...they are matched via the FCC id number

Posted by: MCKINNIE

Wouldn't it be cool if they just left it like it is and not branded it (unless via the apps, like AT&T music, blah blah)

not gonna happen, but it would be nice.

Can you post a link to the user manual?

Ok so now we know it will officially be called the V9x

Posted by: blackengaard

Whoa.
This phone has Class 1 Bluetooth?

From https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/...tive_or_pdf=pdf

Posted by: steine1988

Nice!

Comparing the V9's timeline from testing to availability, I think it's safe to say that we can expect the V9x sometime between late July and late August.

Anyone wanna bet?

By the way, according to the FCC papers it looks like the V9x has a built in GPS receiver.

The maximum power output allowed for Bluetooth class 1 devices is 100mW.

But, that doesn't mean that all Class 1 devices put out 100mW.

According to those FCC documents the V9x only puts out 4mW (6dbm).

By the way, Bluetooth Class 2 is up to 2.5mW. So the module that's in the V9x is just above that cutoff limit.

Still, it should be better than Class 2 I guess ha.

It'll probably stretch oh, 15 meters now?
Just a rough estimate. The math is easy but I'm too lazy right now to figure it out.

Better than the 8-10 meters with Class 2.

will it take 4gb sd card?

im waiting for this phone and only this phone.

I wish they had the choice of the black or the blue one like T-Mo has...but i'm thinking about getting the unlocked version and flexing the at&t software on it.

Well you will have to move the at&t software over feature for feature because the Unlocked Euro/Hong Kong models are not compatible with the N. American V9 firmware.

Don't bother buying any unlocked V9's unless they're from Rogers in Canada. The reason for this: The ONLY other 3G-capable carrier that the V9 is made for that uses 850/1900 is Rogers in Canada. The rest of the unlocked V9's use 2100 and at that point, you'd be better off just buying a V8 unlocked.

So the man who started the thread... So, when are we going to see this new Black V9 with at&t 3G?

From what I was told, it should be later this year. Hopefully sooner than later but if I had to guess I'd say we should start anticipating it around September. Pray it comes earlier.

That said, I know for sure it's coming cause I've held a field test model of it running on the AT&T network in my own hand. Of course, this is barring any retardo-moves by AT&T like they did with the SE k850.

Darn. I kinda figured that. A year from the release of the mahogany V9.

Do you have any information on whether or not it will be available, unbranded, through Motorola?

Not sure on that. I would assume it's up to Motorola whether or not they want to sell it unlocked/unbranded. However, I'd imagine they'd go the same route with this new V9 that they did with the old V9, and the current Z9. I'm not sure if you can get those unlocked/unbranded, as I haven't looked, but just assume they'll follow the same business model.

Posted by: steine1988

I have just sent Motorola an e-mail asking them if the upcoming V9x will be available, unbranded, through the Motorola store.

I figure if enough of us send them e-mails and inquire about this, they might actually go ahead and do it once they see a potential for high demand.

yes, but still no price or date, and where's the black Z9 already?!

I still have my Rogers unlocked V9. It's worked fine, though it'd be nice to dump some of the Rogers stuff in the menus.

I've been meaning to ask you how that was holding up boston but I see it's still treating you well.

I think pricing-wise we're looking at what the V9 retails for now $249.99 before rebates and launch will probably be late July or August...in time for the V9's 1-yr anniversary.

If they price it at anything above $100 incl rebates I think they will have a tough time selling against the iphone 3G

Nah...two totally different target markets. iPhone fans will flock to the 3G iPhone...and the hopefully-lower price point (and much better color) of this V9 will attract flip phone fans that really don't want the iPhone or like the candybar form...in my opinion.

I've really enjoyed every V9 I've owned...and kick myself in the butt every day for selling off my Asian-variant Graphite model, since it is such a good all around mobile phone. No doubt if AT&T drops this one anytime soon...I'll snap it up.

Right now, I will choose the V9 over the iPhone even at the same price. I may reconsider next year if business applications become available for the iPhone.

I'd guess sometime in August/September after the iPhone hoopla has died down.

Posted by: artvanderbilt

I hope it comes out soon since the current V9 is the best flip phone AT&T has if only it were not "mahogany." I was tempted to just get a Tilt (I text faster on a keypad than a QWERTY keyboard) or an iPhone (no USB or Bluetooth tethering, nor Micro SD expansion), but realized that as I am a power user and a student (which can be mutually exclusive), V9 is probably best. Rather, the V9x, when it comes out.

Yes sir! Long as it took to release that baby they should have just left it on the shelf.

But knowing AT&T and all their backward ways, I'm sure they'll release it, like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Oh yeah:

CONGRATULATIONS TO ME ON MY 3000TH POST

Most likely we're looking at a post-September launch, or at least something around there. Highly unlikely to happen anytime before then.

Yeah, I suppose. Knowing AT&T (and all the other carriers), even if it were delayed for five years, they would still bring it out and charge $199. for it just because it's a RAZR

Great...Motorola is releasing a Ferrari red RAZR2 for the India market.

http://www.topnews.in/motorola-join...et-india-253910

How about releasing a black RAZR V9x for the US market.
