3G Blackberry 9000!!!! Amazing specs, amazing looks!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: ANOMIZER

So here we are, a 3G Blackberry with specs to drooool over. The Blackberry 9000.

Does anyone know when it might come out...??

Posted by: briareus

It's the same as with any release -- no telling until there's an official announcement from a carrier. Otherwise it's all rumor and subject to change.

Posted by: ejspecv

no official pricing and no official release dates. never are until a week or 2 before.

Posted by: ANOMIZER

Yea, but this thing is at least definitely coming. I'm going to get it the minute it comes out, to replace my Curve 8310. It almost looks and sounds like a Curve upgraded to great features, 3G, and then some...Nice to look forward to.

Posted by: didefresh2006

I can't wait! However, i'll probably wait until they have refurbs since the price is dramatically reduced.

Posted by: jast212

this is actually replacing the 8800/8820 not the curve...people think it's replacing the curve because the camera and stuff

Posted by: solo118

Its actually bigger than the curve as well, but im sure it wouldnt be a big deal.

The only thing that gets me a little scared was how expensive the 8800 was when it first came out, then a cheaper smaller curve came out very shortly after. I wouldnt want to buy this expensivre 9000 to learn a cheaper 3g version will come out a few months later.

Posted by: jast212

there is a non 3g version that is rumored to be comming which will be cheaper...it may also not have wi-fi but its all rumors so who knows

So then you can wait! :-)

Posted by: CJ1120

i hope the first version comes without a camera. The QWERTY keyboard BBs are supposed to be corporate focused devices, and currently the majority of enterprise companies won't allow employees to get a device with a camera (EVEN with the ability of the IT policy to disable the camera)

Posted by: MrDerby

DId not see it mentioned in the links above.. Will this device have PTT ?

either way, i can't wait....i'm looking at not paying $500 for one. When I can get one, I get $50 off and that will be in September.

Personally, I think you might be disappointed in the 3G aspect. Not going to add that much. You won't see it in email, and mobile browsing leaves a lot to be desired in any mode. The screen is too small and most websites are not optimized for the mobile user, yet. If you tether, that is where you will most likely notice a difference.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Posted by: ANOMIZER

Looks like it will be named, appropriately enough, the Blackberry BOLD!!

http://crackberry.com/

Sit down before reading those crazy specs!! DROOOOOLLLL!!!

I agree with you there. I tether via BT a lot with my EDGE enabled device so a 3G version would be nice for users like me. I did notice slightly better voice quality using AT&T's 3G network, but maybe that was just me?

At least one version of the new BB Bold will have 1700 MHz AWS support so it should be a big seller for owners of the GSM/UMTS/HSDPA networks here in the US.

Doesn't tethering via BT slow down your speeds quite noticeably?? Even if you have a computer that supports the Enhanced Data Rate?

Thanks...

And it's official...

http://crackberry.com/blackberry-bo...ially-announced

What...a...beaut!! We'll get it first, too. AT&T! So that's going to be a tough choice for many. BB Bold 9000, or Palm Treo 800w. I'm indecisive by personality, so I'll have to get both, although "The Bold" is first!!

Posted by: CJ1120

it looks like, from the announcement, that the Bold will only come in a version with a camera.

Anyone know what they're going to do about the plethora of corporations that will not allow their employees to get this simply because it has a camera built-in?

Posted by: greg00ss

damn and I just got a 8110 last week.... oh well lol

Posted by: jimmy3025

is there the possibility that android will be able to be loaded onto this when android comes out cus i am really anticipating this phone....but also android

Maybe the 3g-less model? Otherwise maybe somebody can develop a battery cover that will cover the camer (if that would be permitted by companies)

Posted by: damnyou

It is still very expensive

Posted by: jast212

it's supposed to be released in july for $300 for at&t and then will be released to the other carriers starting in september...the pricing will obviously vary depending on what contract you get

a BB running Android is about as likely as an iphone running Windows Mobile.

Do you guys think it will be available form tele sales before it is in stores?

Your right! oh yea, and what about the looming (thou distant) 4G??? We are caught up in the same cycle as people who buy a new car just to find out that the feaures changed the following year. Their current model is just as good and does what you need it to do but still you yearn. I am intrigued by the 9000 but there is absolutely nothig wrong with my 8310 Curve. Do you really need 3G? How much do you use WiFi or GPS? Not to mention that the price wil drop in 90 days!

This is just food for thought. If you agree PIN me at 2461F24B as I'm curious to know if anyone agrees with me on this.

PTT!? Who is this guy?

Posted by: Sylar

I cannot wait for this Blackberry. The reviews are nothing short of proverbial drooling thus far. Sascha over at PC Magazine notes that it's everything it's cracked up to be, and RIM's Press Release posted over at Gizmodo notes the availability to be specifically at the "beginning" of summer, with the new line being released far quicker than in the past. RIM is certainly putting the pedal to the metal in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008...and I can't wait to jump from VZW when the Bold hits first.

Posted by: ANOMIZER

I agree. I'm going to get it right when it comes out, too!

I love my BB Curve, and its large screen and resolution. With the HVGA res., The Bold will have the best res. of any PDA, ever. That said, it always appears to be smaller in the pics I've seen. Consistently. The pics may be deceiving, of course. Does anyone know if this is true, or if the pics don't show "the real thing"?

Posted by: dcjr99

Personally I can not wait for this peculiar device to come out I've had my 8300 for some tiem now and i'm ready to upgrade. I've been out a contract for quite sometime waiting for this device or something with everything i could want from a phone.

As of right now, the 800w is slated for Sprint in July 2008.

I hear ya...Does ANYONE have a rumor/definitive/educated guess date for its release yet?? It's all over the Blackberry website, so how long can this take??

By the way, there's a 9500 coming out on Verizon and Vodafone!! It's ALL TOUCH SCREEN and it's called the Blackberry Thunder 9500!

The only keys are the Call, Blackberry, Back, and End Call/Power button key. iPhone-like. I want to get it even though I love the NON-touch screen BB's. And if only just for kicks. Looks HAWT, too!!

No, it will launch on Sprint's CDMA network in July, and on Vodafone's GSM network around the same time. I got three family members on Vodafone. They're all eligible to upgrade. None of them care to get a new phone, none of them care about extending their contracts. Ain't life beautiful!

Posted by: cmatthews

I have been hearing that the release date for the Bold is June 12th, but not from a reliable source. Anyone else hear anything?

Posted by: ANOMIZER

WOW, coolness!! Well, even if it's not the 12th, if it's sometime this or next month, that would be awesome!

Posted by: jast212

i heard july 9 or something like that all rumors though

Posted by: vietalogy

cant wait for this bad boy

Posted by: ANOMIZER

I second that motion...where did you guys hear 6/12, and 7/9 respectively, if I may ask???

I work with several of these jokers in the plethora... in the past 12 months or so most of them have gotten over it, and are able to "look the other way". The sales success of BB Curve is a good example.

Q: does the BB Bold use a touchscreen interface, or is it the older (more primitive) roll/slide and click ?

Posted by: ANOMIZER

No touchscreen, trackball, and it's about an oz. heavier, and also a tad wider than the Curve. I have touchscreen devices, and I actually don't miss it at all. The quality and intuitiveness of the OS is SO good, that a touchscreen is not necessary. One thing I miss about the Curve is word completion!!! You know how you can set Windows Mobile to give you suggestions (up to 5) after up to from the 1st letter you type? The Curve doesn't do that. It does have what's called "AutoText", which turns an "im", to "I'm", for example, and that's good at least, but Windows Mobile beats the BB OS hands down in that dept. And I don't get it. It is billed as a messaging machine with email, texting, PIN'ing, IM'ing, etc., so I would have thought that this feature would be there, but nope, it ain't.

OS 4.5 (and now even OS 4.6) have been announced, with plenty of new features. Let's hope that word completion will be one of them. And if not the OS, hopefully the Bold will have it!

There were a couple of links on BB sites and forums for OS 4.5.0.37, and I just so happened to grab it up. I haven't messed around with it yet, though.

You're looking for the thunder.

Posted by: rjl2001

Is there going to be any document viewer/editor on this phone, or at least available third party for a reasonable price? One thing that's always held me back from BB because I like to carry a couple spreadsheets or .pdf's with me.
I'm also curious about the keyboard, it looks more similar to the 8800 than the 8300 whose keyboard I much preffer. Other than that though this looks like a great smartphone. Might have to think about replacing my Q9 with it.

Posted by: greg00ss

I'm definitely buying one, I'll work an entire week just to get one hahaha... I miss 3G, edge sucks compared to it.

Wonder how long for AT&T or really just for the unlocked ones to show up for sale, I'm not eligible for an upgrade anyways so a unlocked one will do just fine

Posted by: ANOMIZER

Heh...yea, well it looks like mobilesyrup is not as "reliable" as I had thought. Oh well...anticipation is half the fun I guess

I see you have an iPhone. How do you like/dislike it?

I have an original iPhone and N95 8GB, the iPhone interface is hard to touch honestly, it's clean quick and oh so pretty lol. The large screen is great for web surfing, movies, etc but when it comes to being a phone the muffled speaker phone, normal voice calls, bluetooth support etc it's shortcoming can't be overlooked.

The N95 feature wise is unstoppable, full bluetooth support, third party programs, camera, video recorder, etc etc. The problem is the interface is clumsy and very busy and the phone is a brick.

I'm hoping the BB Bold combines the best of both of them, if it over comes out
