ATT Tilt: Phone powers off during calls???

Hi all - I've been using Windows Mobile for years so I'm very familiar with the phones and options.

Just received my tilt a couple days ago. When using the phone for a call, after 15 seconds, the screen goes blank (i'm assuming into a powersave mode). While I can continue my call, you have to push the power button to get the phone to turn back on to see the keypad.

What is the setting to keep the phone backlight lit during a call? I've had smartphones for years and never had a phone do this. Is this a bug or what?

Having to power on the phone is difficult for me as I have large hands, and the power button is tucked in the side. If you hit the green phone button is puts the call on hold.

I'm assuming I'm missing something here... if this cannot be changed then I will return this phone!!!

That is a power saving feature on the Tilt. You can simply use the scroll wheel to 'power up' the device or go to xda developers and download KaiserTweak which has a simple on/off for the feature. Enjoy your new device!

If you are comfortable editing the registry yourself, you can turn this feature off by going to...
HKLM \ Drivers \ BuiltIn \ RIL

...and setting EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (zero) instead of one.

Note that registry editor is not included on the Tilt (or any WM device for that matter.) I'm using PHM Registry Editor which is free but there are many freeware and shareware registry editing tools out there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did find that info when searching, however when I go to HKLM \ Drivers \ BuiltIn \ RIL I do not get the same - I get 'NITZCUSTOMIZED' key listed? Since my phone is newer, is it possible its in a different location?

Once you get to RIL you don't look for keys any further. Withing the RIL key there should be a value EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall with its data set to 1. Change the 1 to 0.
