Helio Ocean V.S. iPhone

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: H@<K0R

Well here is my battle between the iPhone (8gb) and the Helio Ocean (2gb)
Well lets start lol

Design:
Helio:
I love the dual-slider design its very unique! The helio is a little chunky but its design factor is pretty amazing for a phone. I enjoyed the easy access to media control keys, the camera and application key, the QWERTY keyboard, and the numeric keypad, and the quick normal to landscape change. (im use to Windows Mobile (T-Mobile Wing) and the change time was so freakin slow) In the end is was really comfortable to use. I, however, didnt like the fact that the phone was kinda chunky (not alot but still they could of shaved off a few pounds lol), the headphone jack is 2.5mm (but it comes with a 2.5mm-3.5mm converter so that wasnt an issue), although i liked that all the media keys were by each other, it makes the phone feel crammed together and i had some problems pausing/playing and skiping to the next or previous track.
Final Score: 9/10

iPhone:
is also pretty nice. i am use to touch screens so it was nothing spectacular to me. Still, i loves the fact that it was full touch screen, with only one button (Home button) and the sleep/wake/power button was very easy to access despite the phone being a touch screen.
I cant really complain about the design because its pretty much perfect.
Final Score: 10/10

Menu System:
Helio:
The menu system for the helio ocean is pretty straight foward and very easy to use. Im a beginner and got use to the menu system very fast.
I also liked the changing colors for each option lol. Nothing amazing just pretty cool. This menu system was extremely simple and nobody should have a problem with it. All the emails, text, pics are organized so i didnt have a problem at all and that is normally the only real concern i have about menu systems.
Final Score: 10/10

iPhone:
Again, extremely simple, extremely easy to use. Everything is straight foward and easy to use. And again, i cant complain about the iphone.
Final Score: 10/10

Camera:
Helio:
A very nice 2mp camera with flash (although the flash was really really really bright, in fact, it blinded me at first lol) i still like using it.
Unfortunately the pictures look a little dull if you not in the right lighting conditions and the flash helps.......some. And also, i enjoyed having alot of accessible option for the camera UI. It was something i wasnt use to on a phone but rather on my degital camera.
Final Score: 6/10

iPhone:
Another 2mp camera. The UI.......well there isnt a UI. Just a picture taking "button" and a gallery "button". no flash, no vanity mirror. The camera app really fails compared to that of a helio and well....any basic phone for that matter. The pictures did look pretty nice though (even when they were in bad lighting) so thats pretty good.
Finaly score: 5/10

Keyboards:
Helio:
As mentioned, its a dual-slider meaning it can slide verticle, revealing its numeric keypad, or horrizontaly, revealing its full QWERTY keypad.
Both were really comfortable to use in my opinion.
Final Score: 10/10

iPhone:
Now, im not really one to complain about the iPhones keyboard. But it does take a little while to type rapidly on the iphone. Infact, i couldnt really type fast on mine. Even though its a QWERTY keypad, its still a "virtual" one.
It did have a nice UI but that really doesnt cut it. I think i prefer having the sence of touch rather then hoping im hitting the right button when im typing fast. In the end, compared to the helio, the iphone really didnt cut it and i actually started to miss actual keypads.
Final Score: 5/10

Internet:
Helio:
3G really makes a HUGE difference from ANY phone i have EVER used. The internet on the Helio really blew me away! Is there any doubt that this will be getting a 10/10? The home page is really useful (or you can easily skip it by hitting "Go") The speed was amazing, the organization was amazing (switching from T-Zones) and it was just WOW. Although the phone doesnt have Wifi, it has 3G so it really didnt matter to me.
Final Score: 10/10

iPhone:
I love the Wifi on the iPhone. It makes the internet *almost* as fast as the Helio's! (Using high speed internet of course lol)
The cool thing is the UI of the iphone browser. that was pretty much unbeatable. Although the iPhone doesnt support FULL Youtube, it still does the trick. But compared to the helio....not really.
I love the iphone browser but after my helio experience, it really didnt feel as good.
Final Score: 9/10

Media:
Helio:
OK, im really big on portable media. I like carrying all my videos, music, and pictures on 1 device and not 2 or 3. The helio only has 2gb (Mini SD) Which means i cant carry any of my videos. Lol i maxed 1.2gb on music (and thats editing my songs down to the ones i like) So it was ok.
Unfortunately i was a little sad i couldnt listen to my music while on the internet but it was still good. The UI was OK. Nothic amazing and was sometimes hard to use.
Final Score: 9/10

iPhone:
There isnt anything to say. Its simply the best media player and media player UI i have EVER had on a phone.
Final Score: 10/10

Hacking:
Helio:
I havent really seem to many helio hacks (ther then the Opera Mini one) so i cant really place a judgment on this.
Finaly Score: 5/10

iPhone:
The phone is extremely popular so you know its going to have alot of hacks (and it does). Nothing more to say.
Final Score: 10/10

Price:
Helio:
Great price on the phone being a new member and all lol.
Got the phone and the $65 plan for a total of $199!
Final Score: 10/10

iPhone:
$400 for a phone is a bit much but it was worth it in the long run. But i wouldnt recomend it unless you had some money to burn.
Final Score: 4/10

Battery Life:
Helio:
Hmmmm.......pretty hard to say. Since you can do su much on the helio, you will definately be using the battery up really fast. otherwise, it can last pretty long.
Final Score: 6/10

iPhone:
probably the longest lasting battery ive ever had on a phone. I can only think of one time when my phone actually died lol.
Final Score: 10/10

Now keep in mine this is only part 1 of the battle lol. i based this off 100 total points.
So, lets add it up.

Helio Total = 75/100
iPhone Total = 73/100

In the end of round 1, the Helio is victorious by an amazing 2 points!
I will write round 2 when ive had more time to play with my helio (perhaps another week)

Get the iPhone.

Was there really a need to quote that entire post? Some of us have to scroll down the screen on our iPhones.

That's the whole point!

Posted by: Dette

i like this comparison because i actually want an iphone (im stuck with sprint for another 2 years though)
and i was thinking about going to helio possibly

Posted by: H@<K0R

i already have an iphone (8gb) ^__^
and i just got my helio ocean yesterday ^__^

im going down to t-mobile and getting my phones deactivated and im sticking with helio.
Its a very nice change from t-mobile.

the only way they can make the ocean better is if:
1)make it thinner (definately gonna happen on the ocean 2)
2)bigger screen (the screen is pretty bug but bigger would be nicer)
3)built in internet memory (like 4gb nand flash or something)
4)different colors (never hurt anyone)
5)normal 3.5mm headphone jack without the converter.

oh yeah i forgot to mention this is design but the iphones headphone port is recessed so not evey type of headphone is going to work. im not to sure about the helio's coverter because i dont own and recessed headphones. i guess i will buy a pair and try it out but im pretty sure the converter is not recessed by looking at it.

You can't compare the two, period.

The Ocean is a cheap piece of plastic with an overpriced 2 year plan.

Why would you go Helio when SERO is available to the public?

Posted by: H@<K0R

you can easilt compare the two.
saying the ocean is a cheap piece of plastic with over priced 2 year plan is a HUGE lie lol the ocean AND my activation/plan come out to $199 with $65 a month for my bill. thats nowhere near over priced. thats actually dirt cheap for a really good phone.
Im willing to bet anything that youve never owned a helio a day in your life.

saying that is like saying "the iphone is an over priced piece of crap with horrible touch screen" see how big a lie that is?

and SERO is only for Sprint if im not mistaken.

That was a really bad observation. The helio ocean is a great phone. I would get it over the iphone any day. If it doesn't have a real qwerty keyboard then I'm not going to waste my time with it. Helio is a much better service provider than AT&T. Atleast in my location the coverage areas are equivacable. You get much faster internet and unlimited plans are much cheaper. SERO is for sprint so you wouldn't be getting either of them. Which is another point because GSM is a more antiquated standard. The iphone is nothing more than a novel turd at least that is if you are trying to get some real work done. Not to mention their horrible politics with that phone. I'd boycott it just on those reasons alone even if it were the best phone out there. Which it is far from.

Don't buy the Iphone

right on man.
but i wouldnt say dont buy the iphone. as i said, only get it if you have $400 to waste.
and yeah the iphone does have a virtual qwerty (but unfortunately no feed back AT ALL which can be a major problem at times.)
and same here, Helio service is a hell of alot better where i live too. and thats also true...much better plans then AT&T. and 3G internet.
and i already said it was Sprint ONLY. which t-mobile was talking about buying Sprint but i think it would be better if DT bought it and just renamed it Helio.
the iphone is much more then that.....its a "next generation phone at least 5 years aead of its competitors" (or whatever Steve Jobs said....which was a complete lie lol)
and agreed, the iphone is definately not the best phone out there and if i could, i would go back in time and got the helio way before my iphone. (which means i probably wouldnt of even gotten an iphone)

$199 for an Ocean, you got ripped.

P.S. I use to be a Helio authorized dealer/ex customer. I can give you two stand point of views but wouldn't want to hurt your feelings or your hello kitty phone.

Q all the way!!
haha ... no but seriously i would prefer a REAL keyboard over the iphones keyboard any day and thats a HUGE selling point for me and most people.. because the phone kind of generates around its keyboard(obviously besides in OS and what not) for texting, email, web, docs.. ect...
but i do LOVE how the iphones interface works.. i havent actually used a helio.. what does it run? what os?

Posted by: H@<K0R

@Pokémon:
of course you were a helio dealer/customer lol your probably like 13 or 14 thinking your fooling someone when your really not. i dont believe that AT ALL.
and the one time $199 is for the phone+service+activation. not just the phone.
If you were a real dealer you would actually know i wasnt talking about just the phone (i even made that clear in my post).
Your a pretty bad lier. You wanna keep diggingyour hole deeper or do you want to end it now before other people catch on to your lack of knowledge?

@Dette:
never owned a Q. I got to play around with it. It seemed like a decent WM phone.
And the helio runs the VT-OS (i think. which is a V-Tech Operating System. Someone can correct me if im wrong but i think im right)

Posted by: samsung.user

Helio is a joke.

Anyways, have to say something about the quoting. You rarely quote full posts. If you're replying directly to someone you don't quote at all. We know you're replying to them. If it's a 5 page thread and you're replying to a post 3 pages back, then you quote. The whole post? Probably not. And in general only quote a small part of a post. This quoting huge posts directly after we just read it is retarded. Just use common sense when quoting and you will be fine.

Typical response as I predicted.

Keep making yourself look like a complete moron.

Photoshop, lol. Get a life, kid.

As a dealer wouldn't you have access to all of the stuff necessary to port your touch over to Helio and get free service? Especially since Helio uses sprint's infrastructure.
