iphone VS nokia n82

so i've narrowed down my phone choices to these 2

Nokia N82

Pro:
- amazing camera with lens cover + xenon flash
- real gps (tho i heard it sucks...?)

Con
- No QWERTY keyboard and the actual keypad is quite crappy
- Chunky in size

I'm a pretty heavy texter so if the keypad is as bad i hear it is, this might be a problem.

iPhone

Pro:
- full QWERTY keyboard --> good for texting and organizer
- plethora of applications

Con:
- bad camera
- subpar call quality
- iphone2 coming out soon ... makes me wary to buy this one

Right now, i guess i'm torn b/w the qwerty vs the camera

anyone have any thoughts? something i'm missing that i should consider?

N82 keypad feels fine and i didnt have any problems to get used to it....but for marathon texting N82 keypad wont be good for the fingers. Oh and plethora of applications would sound more of a place with N82
Have you considered upcoming E71?
Anyways as above said if your going to text alot go for the iphone.

no point in getting the iphone now...there was a new version announced not too long ago i believe...

the n82 gps doesnt suck...its actually very responsive and quick...especially with garmin xt installed something the iphone couldn't even dream of...

if you are in dire need to text a lot...iphone is perhaps the way...but as phones go...i would pick the n82 any day...not just cuz i have one

How's the battery life on the N82? UI speed (ie: is it laggy?)

I would get the N82 (5MP camera, real GPS, plenty of 3rd party apps and you don't have to void your warranty to install them.)

I had my eye on the N82 for a while myself...but have read many complaints of cheapo, plasticky build quality...which is a dealbreaker for me, no matter how great the phone is. I had a lightning-fast relationship with the N95 because of this...

The iPhone, on the other hand has one of the most solid, quality builds that I have ever seen on a mobile phone...bar none. Nothing cheap and hollow about optical quality glass & metal!

For a dedicated digicam phone...for someone that is really into multimedia, maybe the N82 is the choice. For mega-texters, and ease of use...the iPhone is the clear choice.

Aye that phone part is really ahead compared to iphone. GPS aint the star feature of N82, but it aint sucky by no means.

It really comes down to what features are more important to you. Obviously, the N82 is packing more features overall, but if you won't use them then it won't do you any good. The iPhone's appeal is for its larger multi-touch screen, and the N82's is its camera and GPS functions. Here's a couple things to keep in mind though.

No matter how poor the keypad is on the N82, you will struggle with the virtual QWERTY of the iPhone just as much. Both require their own time to learn properly, but at the end of the day, the N82 has the advantage of easier one-handed use, faster speeds due to a smaller range of motion, and the ability to type without looking. I text anywhere between 3-6000 text messages each month and most of my posts on HoFo are made from my phone and I prefer to use T9 to do so for both over everything else available for mobile devices.

The size of each phone is going to be comparable. The iPhone is thin, but it has a large footprint, while the N82 has a much smaller footprint, but it's also thicker. Neither is any more or less pocketable than the other.

The N82 has a larger library of applications that won't void your warranty if you install them and even the SDK for the iPhone is going to be limited in its own right. The bottom line is that you'll have a robust smartphone experience with the N82 than you will with the iPhone, if that's important to you.

Menu speed and battery life is going to be comparable on both as well, although I found it a bit more tedious to multitask between open applications on the iPhone because you have to get back to the home screen first before you can navigate to the other application you'd like to switch to. YMMV.
