Need a new MP3 player... help!

My puppy chewed up my iPod nano yesterday so now I'm thinking about buying a new one. My screen is all cracked but the player still plays, I guess. Other than the obvious options (ie. 8GB iPod nano, maybe 8GB iPod touch), what else is out there? I don't need anything with a huge capacity. My current nano is the 1st gen (4GB) and I'm completely happy with the capacity.

I've been looking at the Samsung YP-P2 and the new Sony Video Walkman MP3 player.

Price isn't a huge deal (since I'm looking at lower capacity models). Video capability isn't required but I do want a screen.

Any other suggestions?

having owned two Creatives since about 1999 or so, i still like their stuff. i think they consistently have the nicest sound.

That said, I like the idea of flac/ogg compatible players and i think the Samsungs can do that.

i think if push came to shove, i would go with an Apple. My wife got the new Nano at xmastime and they really are great little devices.

i'd look into creative. i've used both ipods and creative zen and like zens much more. i have two and my dad has one and they all work flawlessly

I'd get a Creative Zen.

creative zen gets my vote also, never had a problem with them

I've owned the Creative Zen Micro before my iPod nano... I guess it wasn't a bad player. There hasn't been much hype on the newer models though. I will have to check em out.

I do like that its expandable, just in case I'd ever require more than 4GB. And there are accessories for it, since I usually use my MP3 player at the gym.

iPod Touch????

Zune???

I have a 4GB iPod, and I'm happy with it.

Creative or ive never had a problem with the sansa's the e200 2,4,8gb are nice and expandable.

Posted by: live_strong

take a look at the sansa.

www.sandisk.com/sansa

or http://www.sandisk.com/sansa/#/compare/ (to compare the eight models)

Posted by: jmkiang

The Sansa's are nice but not have a lot of options when it comes to docking etc. I bought both my parents the e250 and so far they like it.

I'm actually pretty interested in the Zen because its so cheap. As for the Touch, I would basically only use it for music. All the other functions I already have on my N82.

No one likes the Samsung YP-P2?

are you wedded to itunes music store? that might be a consideration too

I have the first Zune, its big but its nice.

Not at all.

I've heard good things about the new Zune 4GB/8GB too.

Check out a Cowon A3, D2, U3, or Q5W

stick with apple.
the new ui is great plus the sound is better than ever.
apple paved the way now everybody follows.

samsung P2 is an amazing player. the battery life is a bit short, but the interface is awesome. the sound quality is also a million times better then any ipod i have ever heard.

Sony new MP3 players are good. The use Windows Media player to transfer music and no annoying iTunes. Its small and had great sound quality

Posted by: jmkiang

The thing I hate about the P2 is that its a fingerprint/grease magnet

I didn't know the new nanos had "cover flow", which is a good thing. Its the only thing I liked about the touch.

I wasn't able to test out the Creative Zen yesterday. The 8GB Zune was decent... nothing really popped out at me though. The Sansas and Sonys were OK. The designs weren't as appealing as some of the competitors though.

I think I've narrowed it down to the black 8GB nano. I still want to test the Creative Zen but Circuit City has a 15% restocking fee for MP3 players.

Buy a Zen from Creative's refurb shop. They sell them dirt cheap.

and works w itunes plus onwer sony nwz-s616f 4gb no bugs stock fw and best sound in dap in market over bulit this bad boys kudos for sony open format player rid sonic stage and atrac rave reviews in web

I had the Zune 8gb, Sony S618 & Nano 3g 8GB. I prefer the nano 3g overall. However, I must say that the SQ on Sony rocks! Plus, it's sooo tiny and looks great! I've sold off the Sony and Zune and kept the Nano, as the Nano has better video (very handy whenever I don't wanna use my iPhone).

i have iriver e100, this new iriver is very nice.

I'd suggest a sansa e250 refurb from buy.com. Only $27.99 with a $10 google checkout discount discount (first time users only). Most of them are just like new IME. It's a really decent little MP3 player, plus, you can load rockbox on it for additional codec support. It also includes an FM radio & neat recording feature (for both FM & voice). The only drawback thus far is that the refurbs they sell are usually only version 1 which does not support the micro SDHC format. That limits you to 2GB of internal memory + 2GB trans flash cards, unless you load rockbox and use an external card reader for support of micro SDHC card sizes higher than 2GB.
