I am currently on ATT with the iphone but am intrested in getting a LX and unlocking it to use it with the iphone sim. I would be using the LX mostly for instant messaging. Is this possible and will all the features of the LX work?

it will not work.
It will only work for email, and SMS, nothing else. No web, no IM

You would also have to get it unlocked somehow, which T-Mobile won't do to even get those basic features AdmiralAK said.

exactly. thats why i normally tell people you cant unlock a sidekick. because there is no point in unlocking it.

using it only ANY other GSM network other then t-mobile is pointless. NOTHING works (calling and texting. thats it) so the phone is basically useless. I would never give advice on doing something that will make a "smartphone" less then it could ever be and thats exactly what unlocking it will do.

The common question is "why can you unlock a blackberry and use it on other networks and not a sidekick" i get that question alot and its this simple:
T-mobile has all exclusive rights to the Sidekick. They are the only ones allowed to sell "a sidekick data plan" while alot of serive providers sell "a blackberry data plan" therefor you can use the blachberry on any network that sells the data plan.
but since only t-mobile can sell the sidekick data plan its pointless to unlock.

you guys have no idea how many times i have had to write this. its freaking sad that people dont know this. (thats why i just started saying you cant unlock them) and then smart asses come and say "haha your a noob you can unlock them blah blah blah" and then they neglect to mention that only calling and texting works lol.

Don't the sidekick also lose all information stored on them should the battery die out? I wasn't sure about that as I recall that being a problem once.

Thats another problem you would have if being used on another network, unlike on tmobile your info is synced on the danger servers so should something happen your info gets resynced either way. Like H@<K0R stated, its just not worth unlocking.

yeah that was a problem. like removing your battery reset everything, sometimes cause your SIM card to not read the contacts/delete the contacts, and delelt your messages.
and also correct, everything is synced so if worse comes to worse, you can just restore it.

and finally your right about saying im right ^__^ lol

This topic has been covered SO many times in both forums. I think we should just let people spend the ~$50 and find out all this information themselves and not answer this question anymore. Since obviously no one reads. :/
